Vehicle Detail

For sale my 1985 XTR (SR5?) Xtracab Toyota 4x4 pickup. Arguably one of the best vehicles to transform into a rockcrawler. There were many reasons I searched for this year and model. Especially since this was the last year of the live front axle and the first year of the very fuel efficient fuel injected 4 cylinders. It also had the very cool looking square-cut fender wells and a sun roof. Some Quotes from Petersons 4 wheel & offroad: · “These Toyotas were called the Son of Land Cruiser because many drivetrain parts were carryover from the 'Cruiser. And that's a big plus for these model years since parts are readily available.”· “All of those four-bangers can be easily upgraded for performance.”· “All '79-'85s came equipped with 8.0-inch (same as the 7.8-inch) solid axles. The experts we spoke to agree that the solid-axle setup can't be beat when it comes to hard-core rockcrawling, and Jim Sickles from Downey points out that these trucks can be lifted less expensively than an IFS truck.”· “But here's the cool part--the front and rear axles each feature a dropout pumpkin, and it's interchangeable from front to rear. The only distinction between the pumpkins is '84-and-newer models have a different rear pinion bearing.”· “In '84s, the trannies improved and were much more trouble-free. Five-speed overdrive trannies first became available in '81 models.”· “Do Toyotas have any glitches? "None--vastly superior vehicles, army tanks." So says Sickles of Downey. He points out that the '79-'84 trannies are too weak for big tires and big engines but they improved in 1985.”· “He'd lean toward a fuel-injected '85 shortbed since it gets good mileage, torque, and power--and because it was the last year for that rockcrawler's fave, the live axle.” I bought this truck as a project but never had time to finish it. There is no bed on the truck because I was replacing it with a bed from a 1992 Toyota that I restored (this will be on a separate auction). You can either bid on both or make a bed for it yourself. I am including most of the parts to finish this truck off so that it will be an offroad beauty or a fuel efficient commuter. I removed the seats and rugs so that you could see the floor boards. I will include almost new seats from a Toyota Solara (including the electric seat motor) so that you can have electric control of the plush seats. I will include the back seat in case you want a rear jump seat in the cab or the bed. There are 32” Safari tires all around that have near new tread. The truck has been lifted and is spring over axle to accommodate the tires. There are stainless steel brake lines in the front and a new header. There is no exhaust past the header. I am including a new rug that fits the entire cab as well. I am also including a urethane bumper kit for the new bed and body if you choose to replace them. There is some light surface rust on the driver’s side but no rot. The body with the exception of only a couple of quarter size spots is rust free. One spot is on the door frame and another is on the back of the cab and there is a small spot on the edge of the fender that is missing. This is surprising for this year vehicle in this area to have so little rust. The frame does have some rust in the rear where the bed was. Some of the frame has already been replaced with new steel but there are a few spots left to replace. The last time I started the engine it ran perfect. However you must trailer this vehicle home since it does not have a battery, rear fenders, tail lights or gas in the tank. I did not do most of the work on this vehicle but there may be other refinements to the engine or suspension that I have not mentioned. I am forced to sell this vehicle and my 1966 FJ40 Land Cruiser as well. I will try to field your questions the best that I can. Thanks for looking.
