Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a Clean Original 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop with 51,000 Original Miles. This 1964 Dodge Polara Hardtop was purchased new on April 16, 1964 by Edward & Louise Davies of Havertown Pennsylvania. Mr & Mrs Davies purchased their new Dodge at McGarrity & Moser Dodge of Havertown Pennsylvania and the Cool Dodge Hardtop would spend the next 46 years in the Davies Family. This 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop is a Golden Anniversary Edition as Dodge celebrated its 50th year in the Automotive Industry(1914-1964). The only markings on the 1964 Dodge vehicles showing the 50th Anniversary is the Horn Ring which has the word "Dodge" in Gold Lettering against the White background and the perimeter reads, "Dodge Golden Anniversary 1914-1964". This 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop is an extremely Original car that is said to be wearing its Original paint and its complete original interior. This 64 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop is equipped with the Optional 318 V8 Engine, Optional Torqueflite Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Air Conditioning, AM Radio with an FM Converter, Rear Mounted Antenna, Dual Door Mounted Rearview Mirrors, Full Wheel Covers, Padded Dash, Front Seat Belts and is a very clean Original car that can be driven anywhere!!!! The engine is the Original 318 Poly V8 with the Original Pushbutton Torqueflite Automatic Transmission and the engine and transmission, both work flawlessly. The 318 engine starts easily and runs beautifully with no smoke, no noises and no problems whatsoever. This engine runs as good as it gets with no hesitation through normal to heavy acceleration..... just couldnt run any better! This 318 runs well at any speed from creeping along in heavy bumper to bumper traffic to cruising along the Pennsylvania Turnpike at 85 mph. This old Dodge just runs smooth! The Transmission shifts perfectly with no noises, no slipping and absolutely no issues whatsoever. The Original Factory Dash Mounted Push Button Transmission Controls work just as they did in 1964 and all of the Dash Mounted Push Button parts look excellent as does the entire instrument cluster and Dash. The old Dodge Hardtop has New Full Dual Exhaust which was Professionally installed with the correct style Mufflers and the Tailpipes turned down just at the rear of the back bumper.... looks very Original and was nicely done! This Dodge drives as well as any old Mopar that I have ever had the pleasure of driving. It goes down the Highway super nice with a good tight frontend and excellent steering. The Brakes work great and the car will stop nice and straight with no pulling or wandering from one side to the other. I just cant say enough good things about the way that this 1964 Polara Hardtop runs, drives, steers and stops! It doesnt get any better and thats coming from somebody who has owned many of Vintage Mopar "B" Body cars of this era. This is surely one of the finest driving old Dodges on the planet! The Body on this 1964 Polara 2 Door Hardtop is in good condition for an Original Dodge that was born and raised in Pennsylvania. This 1964 Dodge is very Original and I was told that the paint was all Original and after looking the car over closely, I would agree. This 47 year old Dodge appears to be wearing most of its original Code "WW1" White Paint. The Body on this 1964 Dodge is very straight and quite solid for an Original East Coast Dodge and actually quite solid for any 64 Dodge no matter where it came from. There are a few very minor rust spots on the car. There is a small spot on the drivers side floor pan and a spot over the drivers side rear wheel well as well as a spot on the very lower section of the drivers side quarter panel behind the rear tire which is only visible is your laying under the car. There are a couple of minor spots of surface rust which are not by any means a problem but I thought I'd mention them. This is a very Solid 1964 Dodge which has never had any restoration or any previous body repair that I am aware of. Its just a really honest original car! The Body is Nice and Straight with no serious dents or dings for that matter outside of a very small scrape on the drivers side quarter panel and it is very minor. Most people wouldnt even notice it was there with the white paint. The Original White Paint still looks pretty Good for an all Original Unrestored 47 year old Dodge and still shines nicely. It makes for a very attractive and dependable original car just the way it sits! The Original Trim, Grill, Bumpers, etc etc are all in Good Original condition and look quite nice overall. All of the Trim that surrounds the Roof Line and Window area is Super Nice and looks great! This is just a cool looking 1964 Dodge Polara Hardtop with that unmistakeable Roof-Line. Like I said, its a very attractive get in and go driver just the way it sits and I wouldnt hesitate to drive this car anywhere! The Electrical Components and Accessories are all in Excellent working condition. Absolutely everything on this car works exactly as it was designed to work by Chrysler Corporation some 47 years ago. The Headlights, High & Low Beams, Taillights, Parking Lights, Rear Running Lights, Brake Lights, Tirn Signals, License Plate Light, All Dash Lights including the little bulbs in the Heater/Defroster Puch Buttons still Light Up Properly, Interior Courtesy Lights, Sail Panel Dome Lights, Windshield Wipers, Heater & Defroster, Cigarette Lighter, Radio, Air Conditioning, Speedometer, Odometer, Oil Pressure Gauge, Gas Gauge, Temperature Gauge, Amp Gauge, Horn and even the Emergency Brake Dash Mounted Warning Light still work..... as you can see, absolutely everything works on this 1964 Dodge! The Windows all Roll Up and Down Nicely with no problems and the Doors Open and Close easily and Lock and Unlock with the Original Keys. All of the Original Glass is in Good condition and still shows the Original Chrysler Pentastar along with the date codes on eash piece of Glass. The Flip Open Trunk Lock which is often a problem on these 64 Dodge's is in good operating condition and the chrome is still quite nice. The Trunk still has its Original Trunk Matt with the original Chrysler part Number on the back side of the Matt and the Original Cardboard Trunk to Quarter Panel Drop-Off inserts are still in place and in nice original condition. The Original Bumper Jack is complete and still in place along with the Spare Tire. Its just an original car through and through. The Interior is 100% Original with the exception of a Sears Under Dash Air Conditioning Unit that was installed at Sears & Roebuck in June of 1970. The Original paperwork and warranty card for the Air Conditioning is still with the car and shows the car to have just 20,400 miles at the time of installation by the original owner. The Original Factory Red Finish on the Steel section of the Dash is in Excellent condition and looks beautiful. The Original Instrument Cluster and all of the Dash Brightwork and Bezels look like they are just a few years old.....just super nice original pieces. The Interior as a whole is exceptionally original with the only real wear being on the original split Bench Seat and some wear and fading to the Original Red Carpeting. The Original Headliner, Door Panels, Back Seat and Rear Package Tray all look very nice but could use a little cleaning. There is some cleaning needed on the drivers side door panel which is in otherwise very good condition. The Original Red Vinyl Bench Seats are still very serviceable although the Front Seat has some areas where the Original Owner used some Red Tape to keep the light tears from getting any worse. I would say that you could have the original front seat either repaired or recovered and the rest of the interior still shows quite nicely. The Original White Headliner still looks good as do the Original White Sun Visors. The Original Interior trim still looks good and the Original Red Steering wheel still has a very nice look with a clean Original Horn Ring. The steering column paint looks very nice as does all of the original Red Dash Paint..... just a good original interior overall with just the front seat needing repaired or recovered. The nice thing is that the tops of the Original Front Seat with the Silver Triangular Dodge Enblems in the Tops of the seat are in Good condition and these areas can be saved while having the rest of the Front Seat repaired or recovered. Overall this is a nice clean Original Interior with the exception of the worn Front Bench Seat with the Fold Down Armrest in the middle. Take a look at the pictures and you will see that this 1964 Polara 2 Door Hardtop has a Good Original interior.... not perfect as it shows some wear but a good clean Original Red Interior and I dont think it get any better than White with a Red Interior! This 1964 Dodge was purchased new by Edward & Louise Davies from Havertown Pennsylvania on April 16, 1964 and was with this couple until it was given to their Adult son who from what I understand was in the Automotive Industry. Im not sure if he had a repair shop or what exactly he did but he apparently took possession of his parents 1964 Dodge back in the early 90's. This 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop was then used as the Cover car for "PENNSYLVANIA Automotive" OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE ASSOCIATION OF PENNSYLVANIA / March-April 1993. The car is pictured on the Front Cover of this Publication and looks very much as its shown in the auction pictures. The car is shown in my auction photos with a set of Vintage M/T Wheels with NOS Vintage Goodyear Tires although I will be selling the car with the Original Steel wheels with Nice Whitewall Radial Tires and very Nice Original Hubcaps. I can however provide you with a set of Vintage wheels much like the wheels shown in the pictures with New Radial Tires which really give the car a great Nostalgic Hot Rod look. Its up to you and its just a matter of personal choice. Some guys just want the car to look and be as original as possible and others prefer the old school Hot Rod look of our youth and either way, this 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop looks very cool. Just a few more things... this 1964 Polara 2 Door Hardtop comes with much of its Original Documentation from its Original Warranty Booklet with the Vin Number stamped onto the front cover and the Original Chrysler CERTICARD which is the Original Plastic Warranty Card that was used when you took your car in for Warranty Work. There is also the Original Paperwork and Warranty Card for the Sears Under Dash Air Conditioning Unit with all of the Original Owners information still in the back of the Booklet. There are several copies of the Magazine that shows this 1964 Dodge on the Front Cover which will also go with the car. The car has a clear Pennsylvania title that is ready for transfer to the cars new owner. I also have some Original 1964 Dodge Polara Sales Literature which shows an identical 64 Polara that was used in the Dodge advertising campaign for the 1964 Model year. Just to wrap things up, this is a very Original 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop with the Classic look of the mid 60's Mopar "B" Body cars with their timeless body style and wonderful roof-line. The cars Original engine compartment is very clean and never messed with for the most part. The Original engine compartment paint and engine paint still looks very nice and the original Fender Tag and Original "SO" Numbers can be found on the Radiator Support and rear package tray areas. The car has had some nice add-ons like the Sears Under Dash Air Conditioning Unit and a set of Custom style Horns which are very cool and you really wouldnt have noticed them until you push on the Horn Ring and hear that great sound that comes from these horns. The originals are still in place should you want to take a few minutes and hook them up. The Air Conditioning Unit is a very Nice piece and very much like the Dealer installed AC Units that were used by Chrysler Corporation as well as most of the American Auto Manufacturers of the time. The Air Conditioning actually works fine and does get cold but I believe it could stand a little freon added to make it Ice Cold. This car runs flawlessly and drives every bit as nice as it runs. I would not hesitate to get in this car and drive it cross country. It is extremely reliable and runs, shifts, drives, stops and steers flawlessly. I cant say enough good things about the way that this car runs and drives. I actually thought about making this a Max Wedge Clone but found the car to be far too good an original for me to do anything like that although it is certainly a great candidate for a Max Wedge clone or just leave the car alone with the Great running 318 Poly and install some cool Vintage Offenhauser Finned Aluminum Valve Covers with an Original Vintage Mopar 2-4 Intake Manifold and you will give the car the look of something very special yet retain much of its Originality. The possibilities for this car are endless as its just a very clean Original that can be left alone and just used as your weekend Cruiser or Cruise Night or Car Club Event car or you can take it to another level if thats your thing and make it a serious Hot Rod. Imagine this car with a Max Wedge Hood Scoop and a Vintage Moon Tachometer up on the Dash and Vintage Valve Covers to dress the engine up along with a Cool Vintage air cleaner.... you already have the Brand New Dual Exhaust which was beautifully done and I am a real stickler with my exhaust systems... this one is done right and has a mild sound but it definitely helps the engine to expell those spent exhaust gasses which will certainly give the car a little more power. You could install a cool 383 or a 440 and add the Max Wedge style Crossram intake or just add an Aluminum intake and make it a super strong runner if thats your thing. Like I said, the possibilities are endless but I like the car just the way it is and if In were to keep the car then I would have the front seat repaired or recovered and just drive the heck out of it just the way she sits. I recently had this car on a trip up the Pennsylvania Turnpike with a friend of mine who needed a ride to pick up an old Nova that he purchased about 80 miles from my home and he couldnt beleive how nicely this 1964 Dodge drove at 75-80 mph..... its a real treat. When we were on the way back from picking up the car that he purchased, we stopped at a Rest Stop on the Turnpike to get some Gas and he said that he should have bought this Dodge from me instead of buying the 1969 Nova that he just spent $10,000 on. He drove up with me in the Dodge and so he knew just how well the Dodge drove and how nice and comfortable the car was on that trip and he said that the Nova wasnt even in the same league as the 64 Dodge Polara. I think he was having a serious case of buyers remorse when he compared it to this old Dodge. Well, the bottom line is that he is a Chevy guy so he got what he wanted but I think he learned a serious lesson when it came to just how nice these old Dodge's can be when your driving a "Good One" with Low Miles thats never been apart and thats been well cared for over the last 47 years. You just cant beat nice original cars in my opinion! Ok, well enough of my rambling..... This 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop is an Honest 51,000 Original Mile car that has always been well maintained and cared for by its original owners and their family. The car is an honest 3 owner car and is in need of absolutely nothing to be confidently driven anywhere today! Like most 47 year old Original cars there is always room for improvement but you dont need to do a thing if you just want a super reliable weekend cruiser that wont break the bank. You can just enjoy this old Dodge Polara Hardtop as it os forever and if you decide to do some things as you go along using the car then thats entirely up to you. Remember, absolutely everything in this car works from every light and signal to every electrical component. Its a very Original unmolested 1964 Dodge and its a whole lot of fun to drive. You can take this old Dodge and load the family in it and take it on vacation as there is plenty of room in the trunk for luggage or you can just use it as your weekend cruiser or even your daily driver if thats what you'd like. Like I said, the possibilities are endless with this great old Dodge. Please call me or email me with any questions at 215-499-2693 or email me through ebay if you'd like. THE INTERIOR IS IN GOOD SHAPE FOR AN ORIGINAL UNRESTORED FACTORY RED INTERIOR AND BESIDES NEEDING A LITTLE CLEANING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR PANEL, THE ONLY REAL ISSUE IS THE FRONT SEAT WHICH WILL NEED TO BE RECOVERED AND BY THE WAY, I LOOKED INTO THE AVAILABILITY OF A CORRECT REPRODUCTION SEAT COVER FOR THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND IT IS AVAILABLE FROM LEGENDARY AUTO INTERIORS IN THE CORRECT RED WITH THE SILVER ACCENTS.... ITS A WONDERFUL DRIVER AND WHEN YOUR BEHIND THE WHEEL CRUISING ALONG THE HIGHWAY, ITS SUCH A NICE DRIVING CAR THAT I OFTEN FORGET THAT IM DRIVING A CAR THATS NEARLY 50 YEARS OLD. ITS AMAZING! THE CAR LOOKS VERY MUCH AS YOU SEE IT IN THE PICTURES ALTHOUGH PICTURES OFTEN MAKE THESE OLD CARS LOOK MUCH BETTER THAN THEY ARE. WITH THIS CAR, I WOULD SAY THAT THE PICTURES DO A GOOD JOB OF REPRESENTING THE CAR AS IT IS WITH THE ONLY THINGS THAT YOUR NOT ABLE TO SEE IN THE PHOTOS BEING THE SMALL IMPERFECTIONS, NICKS, LIGHT SCRATCHES OR DINGS.... THANKS AGAIN!On May-17-11 at 12:11:29 PDT, seller added the following information: I just wanted to make a few more additions so that you are as well informed as possible. Thank you all for the emails, phone calls and especially your bids. This 1964 Dodge is a nice Original car that runs, drives, shifts, steers, stops and does everything that it should and does it all as Good as it gets for an Original car! This 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop was purchased new by a man and his wife and was primarily used by the wife as her driver. The car was with this couple from 1964 until 1993 when it was given to their adult son and he treated the car properly and kept it garaged. The car was with the son until 2010 so it spent 46 years with the same family. The car appears to be wearing most if now all of its original paint... I was told that its the original factory appiled acrylic enamel and it certainly appears to be the original paint. The paint still has a nice look as you can see from the pictures and a great shine on most of the panels. There are some minor scrapes on the front edge of the front fenders and some minor dings but nothing that really stands out and nothing that makes the car look awful. The body is quite solid for a 1964 Polara although it does have some minor rust in places as mentioned in the auction but again nothing thats a big issue in my opinion and nothing that stands out as an eye sore.... its just an attractive Original car and it looks very much like the pictures in the auction except you cant see the minor imperfections and dings and such in the pictures. Feel free to email me for close-ups of any specific area. One of the nicest things about this 1964 Dodge Polara 2 Door Hardtop is that it is a True 51,000 Original Mile car thats always been well kept and loved by the same family and nothing was ever messed with or altered from new with the exception of the add-on AC and the FM Radio converter. Its just super original and absolutely runs like new. I would not hesitate to get in this Dodge and drive it cross country tomorrow. Its runs and drives like new!!!! The car needs absolutely nothing to be enjoyed just the way she sits and you can use this car for years just the way she sits if you'd like and maybe one day have the front seat recovered or a few years down the line, maybe have the body and paint freshened..... whatever you like but most importantly, this car needs nothing to be enjoyed now and I mean Nothing!!!! Here are a few pictures of the Dodge with its Original wheels and Hubcaps which is the way that the car will be sold unless you'd like to have a set of my vintage wheels...they are available but do not come with the car. The car comes with its Original wheels, Nice Radial Tires and Original Hubcaps as shown in the pictures below. The car will come with all of the original documentation that I have as well as the original magazine which featured this Dodge on the front cover and more.... I even have the Original License Plates that were issued to this car back in the 60's......amazing. Please call with any questions at 215-499-2693 or email me and I will get back to you quickly.... Thanks again for all of the interest. If you want a great driving Turn-Key drive anywhere car then look no further....Remember, absolutely everything on this car works and you can drive this home.......Thanks again..
