Vehicle Detail

1972 MGB Roadster VIN: GHN5UC275174 I was ten years old in the fall of 1964 and can still remember the first time I encountered an MGB in a customer’s driveway while delivering the weekly shopping news. With its “curvy” bodylines, a convertible drop top and wire wheels it was so much cooler than the VW Microbus my school teacher Dad drove and I was smitten immediately! Over the past 40 years I’ve owned many, many MG’s and I find that nostalgia colors my memories ever more fondly for the last of these metal-bumpered roadsters. Nothing brings back my early youth or makes my heart beat faster than to just look at one! I believe these mid-production MGB’s are one of the best buys on the vintage market and are every bit as much fun as their sought-after early brethren. This ’72 drop-top came to us from a local credit union for liquidation after its long-term owner ran into financial difficulties and had to turn it back in to the lender. His loss will definitely be your gain, because the reserve is set to sell. Please call me with any questions or to discuss a sale directly before the auction ends at (206) 914-1173. My name is Mark Thompson. CONDITION: The photos really do highlight the cars obvious pampered background. It wears very nice bright white factory color paint. All the chrome is in place and in great shape as detailed in the pics. We’ve made no attempt to update the remarkably decent stock engine compartment and the photos clearly show the trunk with its original spare tire, factory jack and extra bows in their padded covers (added bonus – we'll include the original boot cover folded neatly in there as well). Rust? Please! Cars here in the Pacific Northwest hate body rust and I find no evidence of anything to be concerned about at all! Yes, we get a bit of drizzly rain in Seattle, but hardly ever any snow so our winter roads are never salted. Besides, I’m quite sure this car hasn’t seen too many winter roads over its life. Feel free to climb over, under and around this nice old MG - I know you’ll come up smiling! Please take another good look at the interior. The black vinyl upholstery on the seats is in great condition. No need to look for door panels, they are very, very nice as well! I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges too. You'll agree they're about as clear and bright as the day this drop top left the factory back in February of ‘72! Very rare factory rubber mats cover the front floors with the balance of the interior carpeted. I will guess that the top is several years old with NO tears or thin spots. All three of the plastic windows are clear without any cloudiness. Mechanically the car seems in very decent shape. Even after sitting in our storage warehouse for a few days at a time it never fails to start right up at about the first crank. After driving it for several days, I can tell you that it freeway accelerates to 55 MPH just as it should whith a strong clutch and great four-speed gearbox. The brakes do feel a bit squishy, so I’m having my mechanic go over them and we will make any necessary brake repairs before the car goes to its new owner. So, if you are in the market for a decent, fun, solid, well-kept MGB convertible please give this car your kind consideration! We’ve helped arrange long-distance shipping for many of our customers, but have had an almost equal number from as far away as Eastern Canada, Chicago, California, Florida, Phoenix and even the Mexican Baja fly in and drive their new purchase home. (We’re happy to pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away). One intrepid buyer even drove my 1969 MGB-GT all the way north from Seattle to Alaska along the remote AL-CAN Highway several years ago over a Fall week – and he made it without so much as a flat tire! Would I drive this car home to NYC from Seattle? Probably, if I had the time, but why risk being stuck on the North Dakota desert waiting for a new fuel pump or a distributor cap or something when it can be shipped to you for a very reasonable amount! I’d suggest getting several bids from the U-Ship.com website linked below. TERMS OF SALE: Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law) and we will NEVER, EVER solicit a “Second Chance Offer” from ANY Bidder! Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new eBay members with a feedback history of four or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If we don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. In fairness to all bidders Reserves are held in confidence until after the end of the auction. Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You are encouraged to inspect the vehicle at our premises on weekdays, so send your representative early to be sure you don't miss this one. We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We accept PAYPAL, wire transfer or certified funds for the deposit only. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within five days unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Remember, you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You are not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later as all are welcome to do this before the auction ends. The costs of transport to the purchaser’s location are the responsibility of the purchaser. I’m happy to store the car in our Kent, WA warehouse for a few days after the sale and will help coordinate pickup and loading with the transporter you choose. Just a few additional terms and requirements: The Buyer will be responsible for meeting the Licensing Requirements in their state of residence. Washington State resident buyers will need to pay the required 9.9% state sales tax, title preparation and registration fees. Because the MG is advertised and for sale locally, we reserve the right to notify bidders and cancel this auction early if the car is no longer available for sale online. We shall not be held liable for any such early cancellation. Be advised, this is a used vehicle, and as such, it may have or develop issues or problems at any moment. I can't guarantee that I described every physical and internal defect or flaw. The vehicle is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Please don't have unreasonable expectations that this is a new car. All information described above is based on the observed condition of the MGB when the listing was placed. I've done my very best to describe the vehicle as honestly as possible. I don't know everything about the car’s condition and don't claim to. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese?
