1981 Honda CBX (985 Miles, Excellent Condition, looks immaculate) Manufacture/Vendor/Printed By: Information about auction: Background information about the bike: This bike was obtained by my father in the late 90's. My father, Richard L Gerhold started to replace parts on it but due to his failing health, he was unable to finish working on it. In February 2009 my father passed away unexpectedly. After his death, my mother and I faced the rather large task of selling off a motorcycle collection that my father began over 30 years ago. The current International CBX Owners Association (I.C.O.A.), Jan Ringnalda introduced my mother and I to a gentleman named Geoff Smale, the current UK Technical director for the I.C.O.A. Geoff assisted my family in dealing with my father's estate (actually to be honest we would have been lost without his help and Jan's for that matter).The bike was in pretty good shape when my father obtained it; however at some point something had fallen on it before he obtained it, and as a result, it needed a new tank, a new fairing, and some other minor repairs. Otherwise the motorcycle was in great shape. It has not been disassembled down to the frame to my knowledge; and I don't believe it has ever been restored from the frame up (which is typically what my father would do). Geoff spent about 12 hours total or so in getting the missing pieces put together. The parts he used were either NOS or even New in some cases. For example the tank on this bike is a brand new tank, it came out of an original Honda parts box (in other words, it wasn't repainted or anything like that). About the bike I am aware that sometimes a low mileage CBX will show up on eBay, but may have questions of validity as to whether or not the engine is a match to the low mileage count on the odometer. In this case however, according to both Jan Ringnalda and Geoff Smale, and my memory of it from years ago, it really is an accurate representation, the bike is a true low mileage '81 CBX. If you have any questions about the validity of the mileage on this bike, I can put you in touch with either Jan Ringnalda the current president of the International CBX Owner's Association or Geoff Smale, the current UK technical director of the International CBX Owners Association. Please look at the photos below to confirm the quality of this bike. The engine, bike, and body is in excellent condition. It is a well maintained and beautiful '81 CBX. The VIN number is SC0600BC300377.The bike has a clear title. The auction includes the original tool kit, and owners manual. I also have an '81 Service Manual for it that will go with the bike. I believe the Cycle Guide magazine might have gotten moved, but if that is important please let me know, I may have another copy at my house on the west coast. It was up and running roughly six months ago, but since it has been at least half a year since I started it, whoever buys this will probably need to go through and check the fluids and whatnot for general maintenance.
