Q. How much did an AMC dealer charge for a clutch adjustment in 1971? A. $1.50!!!! I know because I have a receipt for that work performed on this car, along with many other original recipts and documentation including the original window sticker, glove box paperwork (owner's manual, warranty paperwork, protect-o-plate, etc). I also have the original sales contract (original owner traded in a 1969 Plymouth GTX for it), original and subsequent registrations, recipts for numerous oil changes, etc. The car is a late build (July 1970) Rebel Machine 4 speed in Lime Gold Metallic. It was purchased originally at Raytown American, Raytown, MO and has lived in the Missouri/Kansas area since new. It currently has approximately 108,000 miles on the odometer and is in very, (but not 100%) original, nice driver condition. I believe I am the fourth owner, I have owned it about 4 years. The prior owner (I know him well) performed a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment (not to be confused with a rotisserie restoration) completed shortly before I bought it. Essentially, if it worked fine and looked OK, it was left alone, if not, it was redone. The original engine was rebuilt (basically stock) and reinstalled with big tube headers, new Flowemaster exhaust, a new, chromed Edelbrock carburetor (I have the original Motorcraft 4300) and re-chromed original vavle covers. A new clutch was installed as well. The car was repainted (orignal color) in base coat/clear coat. The original "Machine" wheels were repatinted in a reasonable approximation of the original color and clear coated. The weels are in very good conditino with very good original trim reings and cneter caps. New BF Goodrich radial tires were installed. The bumpers have been re-chromed. The padded dash was re-done by Just Dashes. The carpet and headliner have been replaced. The reaminder ofthe interior is in very good, original condition. AMC'ers in the know will recognize this car has most of the correct, original, nearly impossible to find and ridiculously expensive, "Machine only", parts. Yes, it is the orginal 1970 390 block. Yes, it has the original "Machine" intake manifold. Yes, it has the orginial "Machine" air cleaner assembly with the short snorkel and small chromed lid, including the intact plastic ring and ram air seal. Yes, as already noted, it has the original "Machine" wheels. The car is "numbers matching" as far as that means in AMC land. The dash VIN plate matches the number stamped under the steering box on the frame rail. Both the trim tag and the VIN sticker on the driver's door are in tact, original and unmolested. The tach and wipers are not working. I have been an AMC aficionado since my first Rambler purchased in 1973. I have owned and/or currently own numerous cars over th years including 3 SC/Ramblers, 4 Rebel Machines, Javelin's, AMX's, and even 2 Ambassador's and 2 Marlins. I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about these cars. My honest assessment of this car is as follows: Nothing on this car is "perfect" and nothing on this car is "terrible". The paint quality in my opinion is a "25 footer" and there is a run here and there. The car has dents in the right fender which was repaired but not perfectly and is visible upon close inspection. My original intention was to re-do the car to show quality, but I can't do it. It is too nice and too original like it is to justify that in my mind. As is, it is a fun driver/cruiser someone should be proud to own. Because I have the proverbial too many other cars and too little time, this one does not get much of my attention and needs a new owner. It has not been driven 500 miles since it refurbishment. Seriously interested prospective buyers will almost certainly have more questions. In person or proxy inspections are welcome and encouraged. I will take and furnish any other pictures as requested. The car islocated in the metropolitian Kansas City area. Feel free to call me at any reasonable time to discuss anything with respect to the car. My phone # is 913-314-8423 and my name is Jeff. I promise honest and forthright answers to all questions. For the usual caveats: The car is sold "as is" and "where is" with no warranties espressed or implied. Shipping only at buyer's expense and arranged by buyer, and only after payment in full. The title is lien free, clear, in my name and in my possession. The car is currently licensed, registered and insured. I think the car is reasonably and realistically priced. I am willing to discuss and entertain and reasonbable differences of opinion. Thanks for you interest!
