Vehicle Detail

drspence Store This is a very complete 1938 Graham Model 97 Custom Supercharger. The car was originally a California car and is now in AZ. We purchased it to repair another Graham. We already have 3 1939 Grahams and have decided to sell this 1938. The car is an excellent candidate for restoration. The known missing parts are; original radio, clock hands, head light lenses, dome light, some interior door handle parts, correct 1938 Graham front bumper, bumper guards, horn ring, dash plastic and 2 exhaust collars. The interior is there for complete patterns. We make reproduction dome light lenses for the cars that are as accurate as the originals (the originals usually deteriorate). The missing interior handle parts, most are there, are available as reproductions for less than you can probably re-plate the ones on the car. The bumper guards are also available as reproductions. The dash plastic is available as reproductions (all original plastic dash parts deteriorate as well). The clock hands would be simple to copy. The horn ring is available as a reproduction (these are usually broken when they are original at this age). The headlight lenses are readily available from Graham parts and other sources. The exhaust collars are a standard part that will interchange with many vehicles. We have a left front fender we will include, but it is incomplete. The car was partially disassembled by the previous owner for restoration, but he died prior to completion according to his son. The engine has had major work completed, but will need dis-assembly and honing due to some rust in the cylinders. Easily $200.00 worth of work has been completed on the engine. The supercharger is with the car. The car has an overdrive transmission from the factory with it, but it has had a repair rendering it non-operational in overdrive mode. It will need proper parts to correct this. It has the standard air cleaner with it which will work, but an oil bath unit is correct. These interchange with many cars. The tires will most likely hold air. The car is quite straight and has little cancer. Graham parts is still in business and you can buy many NOS parts for this car. The engine shares internals with Continental engines used until the 1990's in Hyster large fork lifts, as well as, Kaiser Continental engines. Graham-Paige, the manufacturer of this car, designed the engine. Continental took over manufacture of the engine for Kaiser cars. The Graham engine is better as Continental cheapened it. References to this being a Continental engine are NOT correct as Graham-Paige merely contracted Continental to cast them as they did not have their own foundry. The engines when restored are very stout. We have included a picture of our restored 1939 Graham. IT IS NOT PART OF THE AUCTION. WE ARE SHOWING IT ONLY TO DEPICT WHAT THE CAR LOOKS LIKE RESTORED. If you buy the car we will allow you to take pictures of anything on the restored sedan for reference. Loading help can be arranged, but transport costs are yours.
