Saab's objective in producing the Sonett was to create a high performance race car that would be competitive in the international racing circles. The original Sonett idea was scraped as soon as the international car federation began to allow modifications of standard cars. Saab's second attempt at building a sports car came in 1966 with the advent of the Sonett II and progressed to the Sonett III. Production of the Sonett ended in 1974. The bodies of the Sonett III were made out of fiberglass (plastic reinforced with fiber materials) and the overall construction was a unibody design with an interior exposed but factory built in roll bar. The Sonett design led people to take a second look, with its sloped front nose, low profile, high-performance look, and the car began to attract a different crowd. For the true Saab people, the Sonett made its mark by enticing us with its overall features like: quick starts, tight suspension and general appearance. The Sonett was truly a Saab enthusiast dream and remains that way to many who own them today! This Saab features a near complete full restoration. All of the major work has been completed just in time for spring and for its new owner. The engine has under 100 miles on it and runs flawlessly. It could probably use a final tune but make no mistake about it, she purrs as is and drives like a dream. The rest of the drive train has also been gone through and sports all new bushings, shocks/springs, axles and hydraulic systems (brakes, clutch) etc.. The seats and headliner have been completed in wonderful modern grey materials. The dash and all of its components have been accurately redone and are true to the Sonett III. For the interior to be complete, it still needs window sills, door panels, quarter panels and carpet. It does come with the factory pieces to use as templates for new parts to be completed, or they can simply be refurbished and matched to the already complete components. The body has been worked on by a master and it shows in its vibrant paint and perfectly detailed grill, tail lights, wheels and the more desirable small pre '73 bumpers, although the side marker lights need to be installed and are included with this beauty. The tires and exhaust are new as well. I would also like to note that this is a rust free vehicle. Many Sonetts have met their fate due to rust but this has been a great survivor with perfect frame rails and floor pans. This vehicle is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and I will be more than accommodating with helping the the purchaser work with a shipping company to pick this up or I can load it on my car trailer and deliver it as far as 500 miles away for a price that we can negotiate at that time. While this is a great example and a wonderful vehicle which will have a 99% chance of everything working perfectly on an extended drive, it has not been on any extensive road trips so keep that in mind if you plan on flying in and driving it home.On Apr-21-11 at 13:17:27 PDT, seller added the following information: **EDIT** Added VIN#.
