Vehicle Detail
This is a rare find Folks! This 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit * Diesel* Started and Ran last year when we fired her up with no issues. Matching topper included which is even rarer still to find. The topper does need a little sanding but looks great, see pictures for details. Lost Title. With a 4-cylinder, 1.6 liter diesel engine that made this little truck is a penny pincher's dream truck. The body is in great condition with normal wear and tear but no large dents or scratches. It Does have light rust on the drives side with only 1 hub cap and missing the other 3. See Pictures! 5-Speed Transmission with 167,230 original miles on it. This Baby can get up to 50MPG. This twenty-five year old VW Rabbit Pickup delivers nearly double the gas mileage of some of today's highest mileage pickups. A little history for you bellow:Most folks won't remember that Volkswagen had an auto plant in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania back in the late 1970s and 1980s, where they VW built Rabbits for a market rabid (initially, at least) for econo-boxes. The VW Rabbit Pickup was a unique small truck and produced great mileage figures for two key reasons. Unlike the competing Toyota Hi-Lux, Datsun (now Nissan), Mazda, Chevrolet Luv (Isuzu), and Ford Courier (Mazda), the Rabbit Pickup wasn't built on a true truck frame ... it was car based, in a manner somewhat similar to the Chevy El Camino. But it was the Rabbit Pickup's 1.6 liter diesel engine that made this little truck a penny pincher's delivery dream truck. While no speed demon, the 4-cylinder diesel put out plenty of grunt to propel the tiny light truck around town. Although production of the Rabbit Pickup at theWestmoreland VW Plantceased in 1982, VW built pickups (with the Caddy badge) in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, through 1992. VW continues to build pickups in South Africa. Feel free to email me for more info! Thanks for looking! My Husband was taking pictures of both the Gas powered and Diesel VW trucks. We are selling both and I posted a picture of the wrong engine, I posted a picture of the Gas and NOT the Diesel. The 2ND picture that's a closer shot of the engine is the diesel engine. Once again I apologize for the mix up =(
