Vehicle Detail
This is a really straight little Subaru 4x4 that has been a great car for us. As you can see, the body is in really good condition for a car its age, and has no rust that I can find anywhere! I believe the paint is original and is still presentable too. As far as the interior is concerned, the seats are all in pretty good condition, other than the driver's seat, which has a rip in it but is otherwise very solid. The dash is also in great condition with no damage that I can see. The headliner is comprised of some sort of hard foam-like material and has dings, scrapes, etc. here and there where people have bumped things against it over the years, but it isn't fabric so it's not hanging down like you would see in many older cars. The carpet on the floor is dirty and needs to be shampooed. The carpet behind the passenger's seat is damaged in places, but overall, the interior is in good condition for a vehicle this age. The car has a little over 200,000 miles on it. We are the second family to own it and have owned it for a year and a half. The original owners overheated the engine, and replaced it with another (used) one. I was told the engine was in great condition when we bought it, but I do not know how many miles are actually on it. Although the engine was replaced with a used one, it probably has less than the 201,000 miles shown on the odometer, maybe a lot less, I don't know. The water pump was replaced less than 5,000 miles ago. The tires have decent tread on them, one of them is just about new (less than 5,000 miles on it), but I did notice that one of them is getting a bubble in it and bounces a bit so it will need to be replaced. It has a 5-speed manual transmission that works great, as does the four wheel drive unit, which has a high and a low range. It also has a positrac unit of some kind for better traction, and the car seems to be able to go just about anywhere. I know we have taken it places where many of the full size 4x4's couldn't go! It also has a newer, front passenger's side axle, which I guess is called a half shaft, with about 6,000 miles on it. Now for the things it needs. First of all, it doesn't currently run. I was driving down the highway, not far from home when the car started cutting out and after about 1/2 a mile it quit. I ended up coasting it to the side of the road and towing it home on a tow dolly. The next thing I did was check for a spark at the plug wire, but it didn't have one. I tried a new coil from a running car, but that didn't do it either. I then took the distributor cap off to check the points and noticed that instead of points, it has some sort of little black boxes. I was told that they are called signal generators . I image there's a good chance that's what went out, but I'm not a mechanic, so I can't say for sure. Anyway, it looks like its probably an easy fix, but I have been really busy with work and just don't have the time to fix it. It was starting to run a little rougher over the last few months and was even cutting out now and then, so I guess I should have seen it coming. When we bought it, we were told the air conditioning worked, but when we tried it last summer, it didn't. It may just need to be recharged, I'm not sure. The heater fan works, but the heater doesn't blow hot, or even warm air. The controls seem to move ok, so I'm not sure if something is jammed or what's wrong. Could be a simple fix, I don't know. I have to say this it doesn't come with the radio/CD player that's in it because I need it for a truck I have, but I will leave the speakers so you can just hook another radio into them. I tried to give an accurate description of the car and list what it needs, but just send me an e-mail if you have any questions. With a little electrical troubleshooting, it should be a great car for someone. I hate to see it go, but I just don't have the time to fix it. I do have a clear title for it, and will need a $50 deposit paid through PayPal within 24 hours of the auction's close. Thanks for viewing this auction! On Apr-11-11 at 19:04:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Earlier today I received an e-mail from a gentleman who has worked on these cars and seems very familiar with them. He says that this car has dual timing belts and that if the left one broke it would disable the distributor and the car wouldn't get a spark. I went out and took the distributor cap off and had my wife turn it over while I looked to see if the rotor turned....it didn't. I then decided to take a few of the screws off of the timing belt covers on each side to see what they looked like and what I can see of the passenger's side one looks ok, but sure enough, the driver's side one was just laying in the bottom of the cover. It was broken and had come off. Not being familiar with these cars I thought it was electrical, but it looks like I was way off and it just needs a timing belt. It looks like a new timing belt would put it back on the road again. I would do it myself, but I am swamped with work and just don't have the time.
