Vehicle Detail

this is a REALLY REALLY solid 1961 chrysler imperial and it runs great. the mileage on title says exempt so its hard to say what it is. in any event the old car starts right up every time and sounds great, she just purrs and runs sweet. she has been sitting inside since 1993 according to the last city sticker on the windshield. she has been started up periodically for a drive around the yard or local lanes and thats it. but she has always been inside since 1993 and never left out over night, she is as dry as a bone. right now you can drive her around the block or onto a trailer but you can`t drive her on the interstate or anything like that. she is VERY VERY solid in the floors, rockers, trunk floor et cetera. there are a couple of PIN SIZE holes and thats it. about the only bit of rust out is on the left side lip of the trunk where the rubber molding sits and this is very common with these cars. i have included a close up picture of this area which is about 10 inches long. the trunk floor has a kind of scaly surface rust and that is it. i see no signs anywhere of any accident damage at all, nothing. she is loaded with the following options. POWER WINDOWS, POWER VENTS, POWER LOCKS, "SPEED PILOT" CRUISE CONTROL, AIR CONDITIONING, POWER ANTENNA, RADIO AND POWER SEAT. 2 windows work great and the other 2 try. the power vents work absolutely perfect all the way out and back, the antenna works from the button just as it should. as for the "speed pilot" (you just gotta love that name) i have no idea whether it works or not because the lowest setting is 30 which i am not gonna do with the brakes the way they are. but it just might work you never know. the a/c is all hooked up just like it left the factory in 61 but needs a charge of R12. the lights work, the roof dome light (which looks like the Starship Enterprise) works, the glass is all good including the flat door glasses which are often broken from the doors being slammed shut. the dash on this thing is absolutely amazing and kinda crazy, all kinds of heavy chrome knobs and switches and it even has push buttons to operate the transmission!! the gas tank has been out and professionally boiled, cleaned, sealed and painted and then put back in, the alternator charges just great and she shows no sign of running hot at all even after long periods of idling. in the third picture of the engine bay you can`t see the fan because the engine is running and it runs so sweet, no vibration, noise, smoke, nothing. and if you crack a bolt loose on this baby it will most likely wind out just using your fingers. how many early chrysler products can you say that about? if you have any questions just email or call my cell 864 356 3343 and i will answer anything you need to know. no calls after 10 pm EST please. if you can swing on by and check the car out then great, you will be glad you did. i have clear title in hand and can ship overseas no problem. there are two spare tail light housings in the trunk and there is a jack, correct spare wheel and the cover that goes over it. with a little work you could be cruising one of the biggest and coolest cars ever made this summer. if you have ZERO FEEDBACK and do not clear it with me first then YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELLED. one last thing. i have a guy who roams all over the lower 48 states and depending on where you are and your time frame he just might be able to deliver to you very cheaply. i require $250 down at the very end of the auction via paypal but the balance has to be paid IN CASH AT PICK or by a BANK TO BANK WIRE TRANSFER and the car must be PAID IN FULL IN FIVE DAYS from the end of the auction. i WILL NOT TAKE PAYPAL FOR THE FULL SELLING PRICE. if you cannot abide by those terms then do not bid. good luck to y`all. On Apr-16-11 at 17:22:48 PDT, seller added the following information: i`ve had a few questions about driveability so here`s the scoop. as stated this grand old dame has seen very little road time since 1993 when she went into clean dry storage, so as a direct result the brakes are not functioning very well. she cranked up today first turn of the key just like always and ran as sweet as you like. i had to move her outside for a couple of hours while we rearranged some stuff in the garage. i only had to move her about 50 yards but when i applied the brakes the left front wheel seems to stick on a bit. but if i put her in reverse and then forward a couple of times the brake kind of 'unsticks itself' if you know what i mean. i`m no mechanic but by buddy John is and he said that the brake is sticking because the wheel cylinder is going on but not wanting to come off because its partially seized. he said this is very typical of any car that is`nt driven for extended periods. the cure is to rebuild the front and rear wheel cylinders and replace the flexible rubber hoses that feed them fluid, i`m assuming there are 4 hoses, one for each wheel? in any event it might serve you well to look for these parts right here on ebay, it seems there are an awful lot of parts available for this year and model on the net. so once again let me tell you that you CAN drive the old car onto a trailer but you CAN`T drive her home on the interstate until you fix the brakes. i also had a question about 'leakage' and she doesn`t leak a drop of anything that i can see. someone is going to get one heck of a car when this auction ends, this car is HUGE and more fun than you can shake a stick at, EVERYONE that see`s it just loves this car! make no mistake there is some work to do but boy will she be worth it when you are out cruising. my old mint green `61 imperial coupe that i owned about 25 years ago was without a doubt THE best highway driving car i have ever owned, nothing could touch that car for smoothness and comfort. and i wish i had never sold it of course, but she went to england to a really good home. boy was that a good car. and i think the best way for me to sum up this `61 is that she is a really really good car that has the makings of a great car. so good luck y`all and happy cruising.
