LOW RESERVE AUCTION 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300GD Gelandewagen G-Class MBZ Diesel SUV four wheel drive 4x4 military style vehicle imported from Germany - it has a 3.0 Liter 5 cylinder diesel engine that runs great - 4 speed manual shift transmission with shift lever for variable power train/axles distribution mode with front and rear locking differentials - good brakes but the master cylinder sticks and should be replaced before driven any distance - in low range, it's virtually unstopable - all wheel drive - long wheel base - heavy duty suspension - all terrain tires - tight steering - manual windows and manually adjusted seats - Blaupunkt radio / cassette player powers up but won't respond to U.S. frequency - this vehicle was imported from Germany in 2004 and parked / non-opped soon after and driven only on the property - it has a clear California title and license plates and would need current year fees to be paid in order to drive it legally on the street - it comes with a Safari Roof Rack as seen in the photos - solid running gear, body and frame - as seen in the pictures, minimal surface rust / minor rust and some minor paint bubbling - good interior headliner, door panels and seat covers - the rear seat folds both forward and down allowing almost the entire back area to be used for cargo - the blinkers and the windshield wipers don't presently function but might only need a fuse This is the long wheel base vehicle - drives at roughly 100 kilometers per hour / 65 miles per hour top speed - the odometer mileage reads 79k kilometers and has gone around once, so 179k kilometers which converts to roughly 122k miles - this vehicle is over 25 years old and will smoke a tiny bit when started cold as most any vehicle that age would, but runs clean when warm ( understanding that it's a diesel, so clean for a diesel engine ) Known issues with this vehicle: there is a small drip near the front firewall which leaks in onto the passenger side front floor when it's raining - as a result of this, there is surface rust on the passenger's front floor under the mat - there is a seam that needs to be sewn on a pocket at the back of the driver's seat ( see photo ) - the wipers and blinkers don't presently work and would most likely need a simple repair or fuse replaced to get working - the brake "master cylinder" sticks and causes the brakes to remain on after the brake pedal has been pushed - the master cylinder should be replaced and I've been told that it's around a $100 part, but use your due diligence and research this yourself before bidding Extra: for an extra $100 above the final auction price, the winner may purchase a spare 4 speed manual transmission - I was told that these transmissions sell for $1500 alone here on eBay - I cannot speak for the condition of the transmission or it's functionality, nor the selling prices gotten for sales here on eBay of these types of transmissions, but the winner of this auction may purchase it for an additional $100 unless it gets sold prior to the auctions end I am selling this vehicle for a friend - He spotted "rust" and also noticed that the driver's side rear shock mount was broken at the top where it mounts to the frame. I had another gentleman look at this and he confirmed there are some "normal rust issues" underneath the vehicle and in fact the top of the shock mount is broken away from the frame. It appears that the "windshield seal" might be the leak I mentioned at the front passenger side of the vehicle. There is a "drain" on the battery when sitting - I've disconnected the battery cable so the battery would not go dead.On Mar-27-11 at 22:58:03 PDT, seller added the following information: The radio has a CD player, not a Cassette Tape Player
