Vehicle Detail
This is a two owner 1984 Mercedes 300SD that I have owned since 2004. I have logged about 50,000 miles on it and have maintained it meticulously over that period of time. It had been obviously well maintained by the original owner when I purchased it. The car has been garaged for the 7 years that I have owned it. The original spare, tool kit, first aid kit and owner's manual is included. The car is rust free, the paint is mostly in very good condition. There is one spot on the roof that the clear has peeled away. It is about 2 square inches in area. There was some bubbling of the paint at the rear dog leg. I pulled the trim, wire brushed the area and applied rustoleum to the metal with the intention of getting some gold paint later. (I have not followed up on this task.) This car is extremely reliable and is a joy to drive on the interstate. When I first purchased the car, I installed a 2.47 differential in it to lower the highway rpm's and quiet the ride down. It worked perfectly and will cruise comfortably and quietly all day at 75. (I have kept the old 3.08 differential and it goes with the sale of the car along with some other parts that I have accumulated over the years.) I have gotten as high as 32 mpg with it, but I average about 27 mpg. I have always run Mobil One in both the engine and transmission, with Red Line synthetic in the differential. It does not use oil between oil changes. All fluids have been changed at or better than the Mercedes schedules. The sunroof, power antenna, door locks, power seats, power windows, cruise control and power mirror all operate. Within the last 3 years I have replaced the following: Radiator, oil cooler lines, front and rear shocks (Bilstein), rear springs, auxiliary fan, fan clutch and rear windshield. Within the last 2 years I have replaced the following: A/C condenser, expansion valve, evaporator Within the last year I have replaced the following: Rear brake pads, glow plugs, wiper blades, motor mounts, engine shocks, turbo seal/ orings. The following improvements have been made over the years: Remote door locks, Autopal headlites 55w/100w, Alpine CD receiver and new front and rear speakers. The bad: The front passenger seat has a tear in the bottom, the tires have about 5000 miles left on them, the A/C does not operate. The A/C may be an Oring on the back of the compressor or the compressor itself needs to be replaced, but the system is not holding a charge.
