Vehicle Detail
Here is our 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille no-post cruiser. It is equipped with power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, power antenna, cruise-o-matic, factory air shocks with dash mounted "Delco Pleasur-lift" controller. (never seen another one; even on Google search) AND it works great. It uses the vacuum from the engine to actuate a diaphragm changing vacuum to air pressure. We are the second owners. The original owner purchased it new in `69 when He retired. He was 94 when we acquired it from his grandson. The original owner owned a NAPA auto parts store and as maintenance was required parts from NAPA were used. Some time in the early `70's, when Chrysler came out with electronic ignition He had that installed. It works great, but looks out of place under the hood. I had intended to switch to Pertronics but it never truly bother us. Also at some point in the early `80's He had a cassette player installed which required the dash to be cut. I had a CD player installed that actually cleaned up the butcher job the cassette player caused. It has 4 Eclipse speakers installed and a sub in the trunk but it just rests in there. There is also an Alpine V-12 amp that has 5 channels. All of this was installed in factory locations and is unseen to the untrained eye. And it sounds real nice and clean. The car runs and drives real nice! I had the ball joints and upper control arm bushings replaced, new exhaust, the tranny flushed, and rear differential serviced about 4 years ago. The car had 101,000 miles when we got it and now it has 132,000 exactly. The exhaust manifolds are cracked and I will explain why: (This will make you laugh at the end, I promise!) Several years ago I owned a house 75 miles away and one fine afternoon while cruising down the highway, the car suddenly lost power for about 30 seconds then the ignition regained power and "KABOOOOOOM" it back fired blowing the muffler apart right down the seams. I stopped opened the hood, could not see an issue so I turned around to go back home. Next day I had a new muffler installed. A week later thought I'd try it again and in almost the same spot on the highway... "KABOOOOM!" Again nothing was out of place, so I turned around and went back home, had a new muffler installed. Now I'm determined to figure out this electrical gremlin! I know from owning boats that a $3.00 ballast resistor can ruin your day, so I checked the one that was near the coil. Not problem. Replaced it anyway. Ran test after test, no problems. Drove the car all over town, still no problems. Decided to try the trip yet again and just about the same distance and you know what happened..."KABOOOOM!" Muffler #3. Now I'm pissed and out $350 worth of mufflers. Again I turn around and back to my shop I go. Well I traced EVERY stinking wire only to find a second $3.00 ballast resistor way down on the fire wall inder the brake booster. This little SOB had developed a crack and when it became just hot enough to expand it would break contact just long enough to fill all the cylinders with fuel, cool down, make contact and... "KABOOOOM!" It would only happen after about 1/2 hr of driving. So if you are still reading you now know why the exhaust manifolds are cracked, and you should be laughing, but taking notes on those pesky ballast resistors! Included in the sale of the car are excellent replacement manifolds, under hood felt liner, and valve cover gaskets. The radiator and thermostat were just replaced last August, the A/C is ice cold, the cruise-o-matic works too. It does NOT have tilt/telescopic steering wheel, or power door locks. I guess He ordered it this way. The climate control is accurate and comfortable. The tires are fine but not new. The brakes work great as does the parking brake. It does have a sticky rear shoe after sitting for a week or two but that clears up the first time the brakes are applied. The drivers seat has just begun to fail and is shown in the last photo. The head liner is perfect as is the rest of the interior. It is not a new interior, it is the original and shows minimal wear. on a scale of 1-10, it's a solid 7.75! This is a 42 yo surviver and should not be confused with a restored trailer queen. Read our feedback and you will see we describe everything as accurately as we can. But if you have specific questions, you have 7 days to ask. We will respond ASAP! The only rust is the passengers fender, right at the extreme bottom behind the tire. There is some deterioration at the rear window where the chrome trim meets the roof line. These are the only spots and are shown in the photo's. Very common spots on GM cars of the `60's. All doors open and close like new, windows work nice, power antenna works, seats work. All in all this Cadillac shows REALLY nice for a 42 yo surviver. The paint is shiny and smooth but it IS thin! It has not been repainted or in an accident. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. The car is 40 miles away in my wifes Grandpa's heated garage. Additional photos will be only on serious bidders only. We cant run back and forth repeatedly for tire kickers. We hope you understand! Thanks Check out my other items!
