Vehicle Detail

We have owned this great truck for over 10 years. It has been used all over the Puget Sound. It is not uncommon for me to travel over 90 miles to deliver or pick up things for ourselves or friends. It has a top speed of about 55 mph but prefers about 48 mph. It goes straight down the road and the steering wheel isn't clocked (crooked). It has the original 228 straight six rated at 85.5 hp @ 3000 rpm. A GVW of 8800 lbs. It still runs the generator for charging the battery, push peddle start, 6 volt electrical system. (All the hoopla about 6 volt not working well or the lights being dim is foolish! A properly timed engine and charging system in working order is all that is necessary!) I searched eBay for an original AM radio and have installed that. (It was good enough for the people on 1949, it's good enough for us!) I had the radio services and it has that nostalgic buzz and very warm sound. We have $475 invested in the radio alone. In the pictures the only spot of rust is clearly shown at the cab corner of the drivers side. It is the size of a quarter. There are dents at each of the headlights and above the doors on either side but nothing crucial. The bumper is straight and not peeling but is NOT perfect show chrome. The grill is straight bit has pitting and slight surface rust. The running boards are excellent as are the fender wells, door bottoms (the factory drain holes are visible in the photos) fenders, hood, radiator mounts. All in all, this is an amazing truck! The only non original parts are the mirrors on the doors and the rear view mirror. The seat is intact and comfortable, but is held together with duct tape and a blanket. (good enough for us) The door cards and head liner are there, but show their age. The interior light works and is bright! The brakes work excellent and have enough stopping power to stop the truck quickly and very straight even with 2 1/2 tons of crushed concrete in the back. (see the photo taken last November full of concrete) The truck was originally turquoise (according to the firewall) and the out side was starting to surface rust, so I sanded it down and painted it Rustolium gloss black and royal blue with a 2" paint brush. It is "good from far, but far from good!" It was just a work truck and not a show stopper. The bed is a military surplus and was there when I purchased the truck. It is complete with head ache rack and all side stake pocket stakes. Even the tool box door is still above the bumper. (usually long gone) The bed wood is ROTTEN! but between the plywood and what is original, it still hauls a lot of weight. I have had several people through the years try to purchase the bed alone, so if you are inclined to part with it there is a market for it! Especially because it's complete. The picture of the stakes in the pockets is to show that they exist. The pockets are full of crushed concrete and I will vacuum them out later so the stakes fit properly. The rear tires are in nice shape. The fronts have great tread but are checked (see photo) I have driven it this way for 10+ years and thousands of miles. These are 10 ply tires and only the outer 2 or 3 are checked. Properly inflated (70 psi) they never get hot and that is what causes failure. But there is NO warranty pertaining to the tires!!! Even the spare tire and carrier is still installed in the factory location. All windows are cracked but function smoothly. There is a knit hat in the passengers window to prevent rattling. And there is a piece of wood in the drivers window for the same purpose. The window tracks need new fuzz. The engine starts on the 2 or 3 revolution and idles smoothly immediately. It uses NO oil! It DOES leak oil! Years ago the vacuum tube to the wipers fell off and landed on the back of the ignition switch causing a small electrical fire. I do mean SMALL! So now the truck runs on a toggle switch located where the cigar lighter would go. The oil pressure gage and the amp gage work, but the temp and gas gage do not. They work when hooked up, but that part of the ignition system are bypassed. There are photos of the oil pressure gage; one is not running and the other is at idle. Even after driving 30-40 miles the oil never drops below 35 psi!! Please ask any questions you may have and we will answer them for you and all to see and read.
