Up for sale is my beloved 1975 BMW 2002. This example, VIN 2364302, was manufactured in February 1975 and has been in my care since March 1987. Even though out of production since 1977 the BMW 02 still is a fun car to drive and has a strong enthusiast following. This example, while not a show car, is a very nice driver and can be driven anywhere. Exterior The exterior is very nice. The car was repainted in 1994 its original Chamonix white. The car has been garaged and covered since that time. At that time any of the bright work and seals were replaced as well as the tail lamp lenses. They are still in very nice shape due to the care the car has received. A new BMW front grille was installed in December 2009 just before a shoot for a BMW restoration book. The bumpers are in very nice shape as well and have not oxidized like many other big bumpered 02s. A set of flat Euro turn signal lamps have been installed. The has rare late style factory alloys (5 the spare as well) that have been refinished and they are shod with Yokohama Avid tires. The only rust on the car is on the front valence where the coolant overflow ran for a time-the overflow tube was then extended past the valence to address the issue. Interior Inside the vinyl Marine blue seats are in fantastic shape. The seats are usually covered with sheep skin seat covers so the coverings show no wear. The horsehair seat pads are in good shape as well. The carpet is very nice and are covered by factory coco mats. The steering wheel is a BMW 2002 Turbo wheel that I purchased NEW in 1987 and as a result it is in "as new" condition. The original door panels are very nice and have never had any holes cut into them. The headliner is nice as well. The Behr a/c blows cold (tinted windows help to keep it cool as well) and all switches and lights work. The dash has a couple of small cracks-they have been there since 1987 but have not gotten worse due to the attention the car has received. Engine and Transmission This 2002 has a Metric Mechanic 2200 Sport HT engine installed. (www.metricmechanic.com) It was installed in 1998 and has less than 10,000 miles. It has gobs of mid range torque and the car jumps off the line and is fed by a Weber 38 DGES carburetor. It is mated to the standard 4-speed transmission with a MM short shift kit. Please note that an e21 5-speed transmission is included in the sale as well as all parts needed for the conversion (around $500 worth of parts PLUS the shortened front drive shaft). An e21 radiator has been installed (new in the fall of 2010) and the car features a rebuilt alternator and a new water pump ( both installed Spring 2009). Also a new muffler and resonator were installed in the fall of 2010. This 02 rides on a set of Bilstein Sport Shocks. Miscellaneous Stuff The car has a very rare trunk storage box that will be included WITH the Buy It Now price. Otherwise I will keep that for my 1600. Also note that the car comes with the very rare "folding" key. If you know 02s you know this key-I do not have one for either of my other 02s.
