Vehicle Detail
1982 Subaru Brat GL Tan exterior and interior. 4 speed manual, 4 wheel drive with 2 speed transfer case, 131,200 original miles. 1.8L flat four EA81 has the two barrel carb and is the last of the pushrod engines. This means no pesky timing belts and no computer control. Rare 4 spoke Subaru wheels with great tires. T tops and double-sliding rear window do not leak. Glass and trim are in excellent shape. Power brakes but no power steering or A/C from the factory. Runs and drives pretty well. Starts easy, does not overheat, no leaks, all lights work. Cyclops light works but electro-mechanical cover is stuck open. 4 wheel drive works great and engages easily. Transmission shifts easy into first and second. Usually a little grind into third and sometimes won’t immediately go into fourth, but once in it stays in fourth. Clutch is getting weak but okay for now. Car drives very straight and smooth and the steering is tight and accurate. Brakes and parking brake work. You can drive it home, no worries. Lots of new parts by me and the previous owner. These include new fuel pump, fuel filter, accessory belt, PCV valve, air filter, new thermostat, upper radiator hose, new gear oil, coolant. I just did a Seafoam treatment to the engine to remove carbon buildup on the internals and it made a big difference. Oil changed after the Seafoam treatment as well. New spark plugs, distributor with cap and button, and plug wires. Interior is in good shape. Gauges are clear and all work. Dash is cracked but has a dash rug over top. Radio does not work and is disconnected. Heater works great. Passenger seat is in good shape with some tears and holes. The driver’s seat fabric is in rough shape and is missing some padding. So I put a heavy duty vinyl cover with some foam padding on the driver’s seat and a cloth one on the passenger seat. Carpet has no rips and only a few stains. Rest of plastic on switches, handles, and console is worn, but door vinyl is in good shape. Rear seats are missing and not included, but seatbelts, mounts, and carpet remain. No accident history, lived entire life in East Tennessee. Have original window sticker and manuals. This car appears to be a regular driver and has never sat for extended periods. Car has minimal rust overall but concentrated rust in 3 areas: the sheet metal on the bottom side of the rocker panels underneath each door (1&2) and the rear floor of the truck bed at the tailgate (3). The car was originally undercoated and is proven by the dealer sticker. This protected the main frame of the vehicle and suspension mounts which are still in great shape. The underside of the rocker panels and door sills rotted due to water draining problems over its life, a common problem. This is backed up by that it is only underneath the doors and goes no further back or forward. The bed of the truck is solid except for the entire strip of the bed along the length of the tailgate. This has affected the very rear portion of the frame on the driver’s side and is shown in the pictures as well. So the bumper is held on by the passenger side frame. But the body panels are straight and have very little surface rust. The frame, suspension mounts, and floorpans are solid and in great shape. This car will be a good driver as it is or would make a great off road or farm utility vehicle. With some work it could also be an even better driver or hobby vehicle. I’m selling the car after only a month because I have just found another project I would rather work on. Have I told too much about the car? You bet, but I want to be completely honest about the vehicle to make a solid sell. I always look for a similar level of detail when shopping for a vehicle and hope anyone interested in this car will appreciate the info provided. I don’t want a potential buyer to be surprised by anything. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have. NO SPAM OR SELLING SERVICES ALLOWED!
