Vehicle Detail
This is the car you've been waiting for! A classic, well maintained 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon. When Volvo redesigned the 740 Turbo in 1990 with a new front end design, new powertrain, and the iconic "swept design" wheels, they used this exact color combination in their press kit and ad campaigns. The bright red paint and an interior fitted with black leather is the image that any Volvo enthusiast pictures when you say Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon! This Volvo has had only 3 owners in its 21 years; I am the third owner and have owned this car for nearly 5 years. It was sold to its first owner by Howard Orloff Jaguar Volvo in Chicago. From there, it has spent nearly the entirety of its life in the North Shore area of Chicago. All three owners have exhibited great pride in owning such a beautiful vehicle, and considering the age of the car, it shows. It has been regularly serviced by either Volvo dealers or specialists in order to keep it in near perfect running condition. This is made evident in the service record history, which the prospective buyer will be in possession of this history in its entirety from DAY 1! I have all service records (save for a few oil change records, tire receipts, and other minor services which were either not considered important to keep or were lost) from DAY 1 starting from work which was done by Howard Orloff in the car's first few years, to service done at other Chicago area Volvo dealers, Hubbard Woods Volvo in Winnetka (specialist), Bens Volvo Libertyville (specialist), among others. Also included is the original owners manual with all auxiliary books (for the audio system, for roadside assistance, etc) in the leather/vinyl folder and the ORIGINAL window sticker!! This car was $28,225 after options and destination charge. This Volvo has 159,468 miles on it and is still running as it should. Please note, that the mileage may be slightly higher (by 10-20 miles) considering I still drive it on occasion. The automatic transmission, overdrive, turbo, engine, etc. are all in stellar working condition. The sunroof, original AM/FM Cassette player, heated seats, power windows, power mirrors, blower motor, etc. all work like new! Let me repeat, ALL power options, including the window AND sunroof work properly. The overdrive works properly. The turbocharger is in fine operating condition! For anyone who is unfamiliar with Volvo's from the early 1990's, these are common components that are many times inoperable or problematic in cars which have not been well maintained. This car does not possess the same issues as these other, unfortunately neglected cars. The red paint shines nicely for the most part. There is some peeling and bubbling on the hood and some fading on the top, but other than that it is in very good condition for being 21 years old. I have pictures of the peeling listed. This is an easy fix to make the car look like it did on day one. The black leather is all in satisfactory condition considering the age. There is minor separation in one seam on the front driver's seat. There is some cracking on the dashboard which is commonplace for Volvo's of this vintage. Also this wagon has the far back seat so it comfortably seats 7! The THULE ski rack comes with the car too - it is easily removed in less than 2 minutes if it is something you do not want. The car comes with the original fabric floor mats. They are in so-so shape. I have always used the full set of fabulous plastic winter mats. Furthermore, there are numerous stickers on the car which can be easily removed. There are 5 or so stickers on the back tailgate window (NOT on the paint but on the glass) and a few Deerfield city municipal stickers on the front window. Given that the car is 21 years old and is not in museum condition (it is CLOSE though) there are some issues that must be disclosed. First of all, the rear wiper does not work. The rear wiper motor went out less than a year ago, and the past two times it has gone into the shop I have failed to ask my mechanic to replace the motor. It is such an easy part to fix - I have just totally forgotten to say something. The wheels are all in great shape except for one has a small bit of peeling. I didn't picture all of the wheels, but they are all in good shape! The fabric headliner in these cars has been known to sag. When I bought the car 5 years ago, it was sagging badly and the owners had tried to glue it back to the headliner board - which did NOT work. I removed the fabric, glue, and the original, orange spongy adhesive so that there is just the headliner board. It is much more aesthetically pleasing this way than to have a sagging headliner! According to what I have read online considering this issue, a new buyer can have fabric adhered to the board for a few hundred dollars to make it look like new. Also, I recently have sometimes noticed a MINOR vibration in the steering wheel at low speeds. A couple of years ago I had some of the front suspension components replaced and I just had the steering coupler replaced this month. Again, this is VERY minor, does not affect steering, driving, or braking in any way, and goes away after 35-40 MPH. This car is truly a joy to drive. With the turbo revving and the sunroof open, it conquers all roads - from the magnificently winding Sheridan Road along Lake Michigan to the fast paced Edens Expressway - with ease, grace, and real bliss. Now, down to business: The car is located in Lake Forest Illinois, which is a town 30 miles north of Chicago. For a winning bidder who resides far from Illinois and will need to fly here to pick up the car, I am willing to make arrangments with the buyer to pick up the car at O'hare International Airport in Chicago. All arrangements must be made and agreed to by both parties in advance of any travel arrangements being made. Successful winning bidder must telephone me at 224-430-1621 within 24 hours after the auction has ended to verify purchase and make arrangements to complete the transaction. A deposit of $100.00 is to be made via PAYPAL within 24 hours of the end of the auction. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE. Within 7 days of the end of the auction, full payment must be received by CASH. If the payment is not received, and an alternate arrangement has not been made, the vehicle can and will be relisted and the non-paying bidder will receive negative feedback. On Feb-27-11 at 09:48:57 PST, seller added the following information: Someone had asked about the tires and I accidentally said they were Falken tires on the car. They are FUZION tires, not Falken. I apologize for the mistake! They are all matching, Fuzion HRI tires. Thank you. On Feb-28-11 at 13:35:18 PST, seller added the following information: I have had a couple of questions from potential bidders about the timing belt and if it has been replaced. I looked through all the records and it seems that at 100,296 miles the second owners had the timing belt, crankshaft seals, cam/crank seals, alternator belt, Alt.WP belt, and air conditioning belts all replaced. I am not a mechanic and do not know the significance of all of these components, but basically it seems that yes, the timing belt has been replaced. All of this work mentioned was done at Hubbard Woods Motors in Winnetka Illinois. This is a very reputable Volvo specialist serving the North Shore suburbs of Chicago. If people have any other questions about what has and hasn't been replaced, let me know. Basically the stack of repair bills from the first, second, and third (myself) owners is pretty big... alot has been repaired and replaced on this car, trust me. It is in fine operating condition. Thank you.
