Vehicle Detail
1966 Jeep Kaiser Willys AMC J2000 4x4 Townside Pickup Truck Super nice, very rare condition. Southern AZ car with almost no rust. Please see photos of left side at bed/body panel for total rust. There is NO RUST ANYWHERE ELSE. I had been looking for a long time for one of these, but most old 4x4's here in AZ have been pounded to death due to our rugged and rocky trails. We don't have a rust problem, but because of our great weather our old trucks get USED ALL THE TIME and can get pretty well bent and beat up. Not this one. I purchased this from a kid who had just inherited it from his grandfather, and he then decided to sell it because it was just too old of a truck for him to use regularly. Original 327 c.i. AMC V-8 runs excellent. 4x4 w/manual hubs works excellent. Automatic trans 3-speed works excellent. Power steering, power brakes. Newer 31x10.5x15 tires and chrome rims are nice. New battery. New brakes. ALL ORIGINAL SHEET METAL is excellent, almost no dings. Looks like it has had one repaint to original white and then a little rattle-can touch ups over the course of it's life. Looks pretty good from 5 feet away, but when you get closer you can see the spray can effects. Still, it is totally presentable and cool to drive around in as-is. Restore if so desired, but if I was going to keep it I would not do so. I have a supercharged vintage Ford Bronco that I need the funds to finish, otherwise I'd be keeping this little gem for sure. Rare options include factory A/C and leather bucket seats. A/C plenum and controls have been removed from under dash, but I am including in case you would like to restore it. Compressor still under hood. Seats are excellent and leather is super soft w/armrests. These are nice seats; very comfortable and not worn out at all (hard to believe they are original as they are that nice). Modifications are: Speedo, oil pressure, temperature, and fuel guages are vintage aftermarket but they all work great. Fan blower removed, hole cut in dash for newer stereo (no radio now), replacement carpeting and headliner looks very decent, drivers side door handle needs to be re-pinned onto shaft. Once again, no rust in floors, doors, bed, or anywhere other than left side bed panel as shown. If you have been looking for a vintage Jeep 4x4 and have become discouraged by all the mid-west and east coast rust buckets out there, please take note of how nice this southern AZ p/u truck is. The only rust is what are shown in photos, period. Also, please note that this rust DOES NOT extend into bed area, just the outer sheet metal (kinda weird--I don't get it but I'm not familiar with rust as I'm local to southwest area and we don't really have to deal with that here). You are welcome to call me or email me with any questions. I have many connections with shipping cars and motorcycles around the world so just ask. Arizona title included in previous owners name ready to transfer.---Mike 623-465-0636 VERY LOW $$$ FIRST BID WITH NO RESERVE. PLEASE ONLY BID IF YOU INTEND TO PAY AND PROCEED AHEAD WITH THE PURCHASE. THANKS!! On Feb-06-11 at 10:06:35 PST, seller added the following information: OK, there seems to be A LOT of interest in this truck. 60+ watchers already and not even listed for 24 hours yet. Rather than load up the questions and answers section at the bottom, I will address as many questions as I can here. There is a black OVERDRIVE lever mounted under dash that you can pull out and push back in. Looks factory. I would assume that this is obvious as to it's purpose. Not sure if this was an option or if it came standard on all Gladiators; probably an option. Overall length is 16'6" bumper to bumper. Overall width is 6'8" wheel lip to wheel lip. 2 rock chips in windshield passenger side that were repaired long ago and looks like the epoxy that was injected is beginning to yellow a bit. Windshield wipers work sometimes, and sometimes they don't. Both windows and wind wings function properly, but there is definitely a 'wind whistle' blowing from somewhere on passenger side when on the freeway. All other glass looks really good. All lights hi-lo beams blinkers running lights work great. Little light mounted under front bumper does nothing--no idea why it's there. Can't seem to get the horn to blow but I haven't even checked out why--could be a loose wire possibly. Engine does not leak any oil or coolant--none. Oil pressure runs at 65psi on freeway, slightly less at idle. Runs at 180 degrees water temperature all day long. Engine runs strong; stand on the throttle and she roars to life. Nice exhaust rumble but not too loud at all. Engine starter works every time and fires up the engine even when cold with no problem. I do detect that it 'might' be starting to slip on the flywheel a bit, so plan on a new starter gear possibly somewhere down the road? It's fine for now. Parking brake foot lever works but I believe the cables are stretched beyond usefullness. I would tighten these up, but truck holds firm in park--nice and solid with no tranny slop at rest. Transmission shifts crisply--I'm going to assume that there was a shift kit installed at sometime in it's past--does not feel like the old 'slushbox' at all. Suspension feels good and tight and shocks appear to be gas charged. Steering stabilizer has Rancho shock and works great. Very solid going down the highway, nice and tight. Please keep in mind that you will be buying a 45 year old vintage 4x4. It is not new, it is used. If you want a new truck with a warranty please drive down to your dealer and plop down $40K on a new one. I am representing this truck to the best of my ability because I don't want any dissappointed or angry buyers out there. Please keep in mind that even if this truck were 100% professionally restored to new, there would STILL be issues here or there that you would have to deal with. It should be obvious to all that this truck has been maintained well over the years, but there will be issues with it being 45 years old. Truck is sold as-is with no warrantees or guarantees offered. Like I said before, this is a good, solid old truck. I believe the new owner is going to enjoy it quite a bit, especially after adressing some of the issues noted above. I doubt I'll ever find one in this nice of shape again, even down here in the southwest area. I had been looking for a long time. Anyone who's been watching ebay for a clean original to show up (like me) knows exactly what I mean. Still don't know if this is the 3/4 ton version or not, but if the brakes are any indication then it's my guess it's the 3/4 ton truck. The rear drums are huge and appear to be much heavier duty then what would have been put on a half ton version. I do know that Jeep offered a stepside version and also this full bodied Townside bed. You may have noticed the 'Custom Cab' emblem next to doors (on cab) either side. I've been searching on the internet and can't seem to find out what J2000 stands for. Anyone?? These are rare trucks and most seem to have been crushed or rusted into junk, so either way this one is definitely a nice find. Everyone looks and points at it when you're at Home Depot, even the kids. It's a fun truck that's easy to drive. Thanks again for everyone's interest. Good luck. On Feb-06-11 at 11:58:29 PST, seller added the following information: OK I think the mystery has been solved as to what this truck actually is. 2406W vin designates as: 120" wheelbase --- J2500 --- 5000 lb. GVWR --- 4 W/D --- Truck, cab & chassis On Feb-08-11 at 18:26:54 PST, seller added the following information: Sorry for all the updates, but I'm getting many questions which are reminding me of info that I need to address for all potential buyers. My listing states $250 paypal deposit with balance of full payment needing to be completed within 3 days. That is too soon for many of you to be able to comply with, so I can wait up to 7 DAYS for full payment. Personal checks are fine too but truck won't leave here until your CHECK CLEARS MY BANK. Hope that helps. I can not accept paypal for full amount due to exorbitant fees that PP charges us sellers. Sorry. Mileage stated under description is just a guess. Odometer on it now reads 22K approx. but keep in mind that it had been changed out at sometime in it's life to the aftermarket unit already noted. So, your guess is as good as mine when it comes to actual mileage. I noted while driving that sometimes my knee will touch the bottom of steering column (I'm 6'3" tall and long legged) and when it does it sometimes makes the gear shift selector rotate a bit. When that happens it can slip out of drive gear for just a second. Once again, this is an old truck that will need some attention and I am trying to be as honest as possible. I know that I'm probably overloading this listing with way too much nit-pick info, but I think most will agree that it's better to get too much info rather than not enough. If you haven't tried www.Uship.com you really need to. This is an offshoot of ebay and is a great way to save money on shipping anything to anywhere. Try it.
