Vehicle Detail
1989 Chevy Camaro RS Convertible Ultra-Clean and Original VIN 1G1FP31E4KL148678 There’s an old saying in the collector car world: Any vehicle can be restored, given enough time and money, but it can only be factory-original once! If you follow our auctions regularly, you’ll remember our last convertible Camaro crossed the Atlantic to a new home in Holland, and I’m sure there’s a good chance another European collector may end up with this exceptional Chevy, as it’s even nicer! I’ll go so far as to say this is the finest, cleanest, nicest third-generation Camaro we’ve ever been able to offer! The car was owned and driven very sparingly here exclusively in the Seattle/Tacoma area over the past two decades. It came to us directly from a mega-franchise dealer that took it as a trade-in from the long-term owner a few weeks ago. There is very, very little detectible interior or exterior wear on this convertible. I mean, it looks sounds and drives like its only three or four years old. The paint is great and you’ve gotta love the vintage real brushed pin striping – a very cool vibe! I also really like the look of these 17x8 Eagle Alloys on this car. They’re wrapped with 245/45ZR17 Cooper COBRA ZHP low profile radials. Tread wear is still at least 75% all around and NO road rash anywhere! There are no rock chips on the front valance or even paint scratches. Check out either of the door jambs; look at all the nooks and crannies under the hood and in the trunk. EVERYTHING here is spotless original. What you see in my photos is not the result of a detail, this car has never needed one! It literally had two sets of floor mats protecting the ultra-clean carpets when it came to us. With its great looks and aggressive stance this convertible turns heads EVERYWHERE it goes - and is it ever fun to tool around in! If you have questions or would like to discuss a sale before the end of the eBay listing, feel free to contact me here at Best Auto. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. CONDITION: The photos really do tell the car’s story. I’m always happy when we come across these well-preserved, original vehicles and are then able to offer them here to you! I believe this Camaro still has the same medium blue metallic paint it wore the day it drove off the Van Nuys assembly line (yes, it still holds quite a shine too). I’m not a body or paint guy, but I find no evidence of any exterior work having been done. About the only real flaw is around the passenger’s door lock. Some Adam Henry tried to remove it and caused some dents in the process around the bezel. The original fabric top you see in the photos is in great shape with NO rips or tears and NO clouding of the vinyl rear window. Open the trunk and you’ll find a 400 watt Rockford amp, the original tire inflation bottle for the mini-spare, an expensive collector car cover and the duster used by the former owner when taking the RS to car shows (the Camaro’s Unlimited club sticker is still in the window). Because of the mild climate here in western Washington State our winter roads are never salted. First sign of a snow flake; everyone panics and just stays home! I’d be very surprised if this convertible has seen many winter roads anyway. There’s NO rust in the quarters – for that matter, you won’t come across any rust in the body. Feel free to climb over, under and around this ultra-clean convertible - I absolutely know you’ll come up smiling! Please take another good look at the interior pictures as well. Settle into the driver’s seat and you’d swear this rig is only a few years old based on appearance and feel. Everything is clean and factory original right down to the door pull handles. When was the last time you came across twenty-two year-old door panels this nice? I’m extremely impressed with the condition of the dash gauges, too. They’re as clear and bright as the day it left the assembly line. The five-digit odo does read just 4K miles, but that's because its turned over sometime in the past 22 years. This car wasn't a museum piece or trailer queen, but also hasn't had the kind of wear and tear most of it's siblings experienced either. You’ll be pleased to know I’m having the stereo replaced with a comparable model after discovering the in-dash Alpine you see in the photos won’t play my CD’s! Mechanically, I also feel the Camaro is in great shape. Even after sitting in our storage warehouse for a few days it starts right up at the first few cranks – you just can’t beat these bulletproof 5.0 Liter V-8’s! This RS came with the 170 HP 305 (LO3) found in the base IROC-Z for 1989. While driving it after we took delivery, I can tell you that it freeway accelerates to 65 MPH just as it should and that the brakes feel just fine – no pulling or fading. If you’re in the market for an original, super-clean, great driving Camaro Convertible please give this car your kind attention. I seriously doubt you can find another in this shape AND with a ridiculously low reserve! As a decade-long Ebay seller with hundreds of satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this car runs and drives as it should and that it is being properly represented to you. We’ve helped arrange long-distance shipping for many of our customers, but I also have no problem encouraging bidders to do what others from as far away as Alaska, Chicago, Arizona, Eastern Canada, Florida and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International five miles away) and then drive home cross-country the same day! I wouldn’t hesitate (and in fact, I encourage you) to do so. I’ll have the Chevy gassed up and ready to go! Overseas buyers are always welcome, too! We’ve helped ship many cars to England, Scandinavia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand over the past ten years. Here’s how the VIN Code (1G1FP31E4KL148678) breaks down: 1 = USA Built G = GM 1 = Chevrolet FP = Camaro Sport Coupe 3 = Convertible 1 = Manual Seat Belts E = 5.0 Liter (305 CI) 170 HP (LO3) Engine Code 4 = Check number – no meaning K = 1989 model year L = Van Nuys, California Assembly Plant This was the 148,678 Chevrolet built that year. TERMS OF SALE: You’re encouraged to check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! Come by and drive the Chevy at our premises during business hours if you’re in the area. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! Additionally, we reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed upon. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction’s end if you’re the winning bidder. The remaining balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Remember, you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You are not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later. You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from www.U-ship.com link shown below. Brokers will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. As an alternative, you might also get a quote from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're Ebay's preferred shipper and have a link attached to the Ebay Motors home page. The zip code for pick-up would be 98032 (Kent, Washington) to get an instant on-line quote from either source. The costs of shipping the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. Make sure you inquire with your shipper for information regarding insurance coverage on the vehicles they transport. The car can be stored free of charge at our location for up to two weeks after full payment has been made. Additional Terms and Requirements: The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect the 9.8% sales tax, title preparation, transfer and registration fees. A Buyer from outside Washington will pay only a $50 document fee. Because the Camaro is advertised and for sale locally, we reserve the right to notify bidders and cancel this auction early if the car is no longer available for sale online. It is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. All information described above is based on the observed condition when the listing was placed. I've done my very best to describe the car as honestly as possible. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese?
