Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1984 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel (W123). This item is being listed at a low starting price of .99 with no reserve as I believe Ebay is the best at determining its price. Good luck and happy bidding! With proper care the engine in this car will last forever. It has had two owners. My uncle bought it new then moved to Manhattan and rarely had use for it. In 1987 my mother needed a new car and "only trusted the safety of a Mercedes-Benz" and its been with us ever since. For years my mom babied the car by using diesel fuel conditioner and keeping meticulous records in a notebook at each fill-up. She used the same mechanic for 18 years until he retired in 2005. All these records are somewhere in storage (which I will try to find if someone requests it). But at the moment, you'll have to go on my memory of its history, the pictures, and a recent inspection at Pep Boys. Major repairs needed:The biggest repair needed is on the brakes. Pepboys quoted a total of $1343.52 to replace the master cylinder and brake booster ($832.24 for parts and $351.09 for labor. Labor is $91/hr). Next are new tires, the tires have tread, but they're old and brittle (Pepboys quoted $525.62 -- $88.99/P195/70TR14 tire). They were purchased from Costco, who also did the routine maintenance on them, in I believe 2003.Lower ball joints that were quoted by a local Fort Lauderdale shop called Autobahn Performance at $746.22 ($607.60 for labor (6 hours) and $77 for parts. They also recommended to replace the rear transmission mount for $115.54 ($49 labor (.5 hour), $57 parts)Other repairs needed:There is also a slow freon leak in the a/c system that requires it to be recharged every year or two. But other than it blows cold though some other the more advanced speed settings it had early in its life are gone and now it either blows really high or really low.The heater is broken. It died early in its life sometime in the late 80's, but this being in Florida there was little need for it to be repaired. The vacuum door lock system no longer works due a leak somewhere in the system. The vents on the dash are also stuck open due to this. So the bottom of windshield sometimes mists up when the a/c is on.And the sunroof no longer opens, though seal around it was replaced a few years ago (2005 I believe) as it started leaking. The windshield wiper fluid leaks. (It leaks some oil but apparently this is common to these old diesels.)The cruise control doesn't hold, but other than that the engine and transmission are in great condition. Body repairs needed:It could use a new paint job as the paint is oxidized (see pics). (It had just rained and instead of drying it off I left it show the the varying degrees of life left in the paint.)The front left body panel was clipped by the side mirror of a Ford F-150. The repairs to fix were quoted around $1,000.There is a rust spot on the bottom driver's side rear quarter panel under the trunk. (Also note (in the pics) the the rust spot at the base of the middle of the back window and chip of paint missing on the hood.)The passenger window has slipped off its track and occasionally needs hand help to get back up.The sound-deadening mat inside has rotted and needs to be replaced (see pic)There are two small cracks in the dashboard. A larger one in front of the right speaker and a small one in the middle. Though I imagine the only way to fix this is to replace the dash or cover it with a dashboard cover (like this: http://www.costco.com/Browse/ProductSet.aspx?ec=BC-EC15427-ProdID11618901&pos=0&whse=bc&topnav=&prodid=11618902&lang=en-US).Some of the interior liner around the doors is frayed and/or coming loose (see pics). The covers on the vanity mirrors are broken off and lights no longer work. (one cover is driver side door pocket). The light in between the vanity mirrors in the also no longer works, but the light in the back does. The nets that hold things to front seats' seat-backs have broken off (see pic). The rear driver side quart panel on the inside is loose for reason. Looks like it's the antenna hookup for the old car phone in the way now for some reason. Some of the door/window seal are aged and cracked.Lights in trunk no longer work.Recent repairs:The battery is a brand new Bosch brand (see pic) as I forgot to disconnect it while it was stored for a few months. Pepboys tested the starting/charging system and it came out good. The antenna is new as it was stuck in the midway position. It was replaced last year in what I thought would be an easy fix, but turned into an all day ordeal as nothing with Mercedes are simple for better or worse.Comes with:Heatshield brand advanced windshield reflector.Car cover from Costco. Not the custom ones you can get online, but the general sized (Small, Medium, Large) they have in the stores.Trailer hitch from U-Haul. Put that diesel torque to work! (see pic)Hookup for late 80s, early 90s car phone on right on center console in passenger side foot well.Pouch on floor that acts as cup holder in passenger side foot well.Original owner's manual is the in the glove compartment. The leater is mint, though the stuffing in the seat of the driver's seat is a little off to the sight (see pic) but unnoticeable while sitting in it. The tint is in good condition. It's never been in a major accident. The biggest one was getting clipped by the previously mentioned F-150's side mirror. Other than that it's all been parking lot dings and minor stuff. One time it was rear ended by a Mitsubishi Eclipse, but there wasn't even a scratch on the Benz, though the front-end of the Eclipse looked practically totaled. Steel always beats plastic. See pics for all its other good attributes. For any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. They should be up sometime tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Note: the trunk lights do work. In addition to the passenger window not rolling down the rear window on the passenger side also doesn't roll down. The driver's window and the window behind it do work.On Feb-05-11 at 19:53:47 PST, seller added the following information: Note: The rear passenger side window does work. Not sure what was going on the other day. The front passenger window is just off its track. The motor in the door sounds like its working OK.On Feb-05-11 at 20:06:32 PST, seller added the following information: For some reason this Q&A didn't post: Q: Hi, does the vehicle have a current inspection? Is it driveable with the breaks?Feb-05-11 A: Yes, the car is drivable with the brakes. You just have to push a little harder than normal on the brake pedal. Florida doesn't do vehicle inspections anymore. I don't know what it would need if it went to another state. http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/smog-check.phpOn Feb-06-11 at 00:07:36 PST, seller added the following information: From ebay From ebay From ebay From ebay From ebay From ebay From ebayOn Feb-06-11 at 00:19:34 PST, seller added the following information:
