An excellent specimen for any Renault enthusiast's collection! The Renault 5 Turbo holds 33 top 10 placings in the WRC Championship between 1981-1986 with a 1st on the Monte Carlo and The Tour De Course. The car also produced 16 Championship Winners in the E.U between 1981 and 1986. HistoryThis car began its journey in Monchengladbach, Germany when it was sold by Renault Export Sales to its first owner in October, 1984. The car cleared customs and was loaded November 1984 in port of Bremerhaven for export. Documentation of the entire export procedure is available, including original Bill of Landings, German customs paperwork, and even export broker documentation. Arriving to Long Beach California in December, the car began its conversion shortly after to meet DOT and EPA standards. All documents from the US Department of Transportation, US Environmental Protection Agency, California Smog Certificates and Safety inspection documents were carefully preserved. M TEC of Gardena California did the job, and also prepared it to pass California Emissions testing. The car passed all federal required inspections and California inspections. Over the years, the car was serviced to be up in shape, but judging from multiple repair invoices with documented miles, the car was not driven much. The last year while transferring ownership, the car was documented with 3856 miles in February, 1996. In 1996 the car changed ownership to its last owner, and was also carefully maintained and rarely driven. Documented miles on August 2006 were 5451 miles. Service records also available for the second owner. But due to unfortunate health complications, the second owner never drove the Renault after 2007, and it was covered and garage stored until it’s uncovering in 2010. Because the car was so well maintained and stored properly, little detailing was necessary to bring it back to its near flawless condition. We have extensive documentation since its arrival to the states. Besides the already mentioned, we also have the original blue plates still in mint condition wearing original DMV sleeve, registration stickers and papers, and most DMV paperwork. Condition The exterior of the car is near mint, as if it just came of the assembly line. The original black paint has high gloss. Some scuffs on the rear bumper, are visible in the pictures. Exterior plastic and rubber trimmings are all original and near mint without cracking or fading. Glass is original and Renault branded. The tires Michelin, and look like the original too. They have some cracking due to age. Under the front hood, the original tire and tools are still in place, and other components also look original and in great shape. The Interior is flawless! From the cloth upholstery to the leather wheel, the car was preserved to be showcased! All fabrics are original and in prestine condition. As if it was never driven, and the plastic was just removed. Because the car was stored for such a long time, it was serviced when we purchased it. It received a tune up, flushed the gas tanks, flushed and refilled fresh fluids, and replaced the fuel pumps. The car drives great! Handles well, suspension is stiff, no knocks or sound of any sort, just be beastly exhaust. The manual 5 speed is smooth and glides through gears with ease. The brakes are responsive, brakes well, without any shaking at the wheel either. Throttle is responsive, with great thrust and acceleration this car is known for at higher RPMs when the turbo kicks in. Over all, the car drives and handles very well, without any signs of the need for service. This Renault's journey was very long, and how well it was maintained and documented took a lot of work. It is a rare sight to see this Rally Champion in the US, since only 3,167 Turbo 2's were ever produced, and none were made to be sold in America. Of those produced, an estimated 200 are still around of the 250 imported to the states. With only 5K original miles, this pristine 1984 Renault 5 Turbo 2 most likely holds the title for being the best preserved and unmodified! This Renault's journey was very long, and how well it was maintained and documented took a lot of work. It is a rare sight to see this Rally Champion in the US, since only 3,167 Turbo 2's were ever produced, and none were made to be sold in America. This is a once in a life time opportunity to own a piece of history, a rally legend, in the rarest condition with an excellent documented history! An excellent specimen for any Renault enthusiast's collection!

The Renault 5 Turbo holds 33 top 10 placings in the WRC Championship between 1981-1986 with a 1^st on the Monte Carlo and The Tour De Course. The car also produced 16 Championship Winners in the E.U between 1981 and 1986.

History

This car began its journey in Monchengladbach, Germany when it was sold by Renault Export Sales to its first owner in October, 1984. The car cleared customs and was loaded November 1984 in port of Bremerhaven for export. Documentation of the entire export procedure is available, including original Bill of Landings, German customs paperwork, and even export broker documentation. Arriving to Long Beach California in December, the car began its conversion shortly after to meet DOT and EPA standards. All documents from the US Department of Transportation, US Environmental Protection Agency, California Smog Certificates and Safety inspection documents were carefully preserved. M TEC of Gardena California did the job, and also prepared it to pass California Emissions testing. The car passed all federal required inspections and California inspections. Over the years, the car was serviced to be up in shape, but judging from multiple repair invoices with documented miles, the car was not driven much. The last year while transferring ownership, the car was documented with 3856 miles in February, 1996. In 1996 the car changed ownership to its last owner, and was also carefully maintained and rarely driven. Documented miles on August 2006 were 5451 miles. Service records also available for the second owner. But due to unfortunate health complications, the second owner never drove the Renault after 2007, and it was covered and garage stored until it’s uncovering in 2010. Because the car was so well maintained and stored properly, little detailing was necessary to bring it back to its near flawless condition.

We have extensive documentation since its arrival to the states. Besides the already mentioned, we also have the original blue plates still in mint condition wearing original DMV sleeve, registration stickers and papers, and most DMV paperwork.

Condition

The exterior of the car is near mint, as if it just came of the assembly line. The original black paint has high gloss. Some scuffs on the rear bumper, are visible in the pictures. Exterior plastic and rubber trimmings are all original and near mint without cracking or fading. Glass is original and Renault branded. The tires Michelin, and look like the original too. They have some cracking due to age. Under the front hood, the original tire and tools are still in place, and other components also look original and in great shape.

The Interior is flawless! From the cloth upholstery to the leather wheel, the car was preserved to be showcased! All fabrics are original and in prestine condition. As if it was never driven, and the plastic was just removed.

Because the car was stored for such a long time, it was serviced when we purchased it. It received a tune up, flushed the gas tanks, flushed and refilled fresh fluids, and replaced the fuel pumps.

The car drives great! Handles well, suspension is stiff, no knocks or sound of any sort, just be beastly exhaust. The manual 5 speed is smooth and glides through gears with ease. The brakes are responsive, brakes well, without any shaking at the wheel either. Throttle is responsive, with great thrust and acceleration this car is known for at higher RPMs when the turbo kicks in. Over all, the car drives and handles very well, without any signs of the need for service.

This Renault's journey was very long, and how well it was maintained and documented took a lot of work. It is a rare sight to see this Rally Champion in the US, since only 3,167 Turbo 2's were ever produced, and none were made to be sold in America. Of those produced, an estimated 200 are still around of the 250 imported to the states. With only 5K original miles, this pristine 1984 Renault 5 Turbo 2 probably holds the title for being the best preserved and unmodified!
