Vehicle Detail

This sale is for a one of a kind bright Yellow AMC Pacer EVA electric car. This is a real plug in electric vehicle. The actual miles are a true whopping 25 miles! The Pacer is really a love it or hate it car but a car no one can ignore. This unusual car has a great story. First let me make it clear this is a factory built car. AMC sold complete vehicles to the EVA corporation to be converted to electric power. The original AMC drivetrain was removed and the electric conversion was installed. This was very advanced conversion. It used a simple DC motor for power. You simply open the fuel door and plug it in. The gauges tell you when you are ready to roll. It even has a gasoline heater! The cars were refered to as "The Change of Pace" Pacer. This bright Yellow baby was sold new to a gentleman from Chicago who owned his own company. The only miles put on the car was inside the complex. He had a patent for a motor that would recharge the batterys while the vehicle operated much like the Prius we have today. Before he could make it a reality his business was purchased. (It seems clear someone was not wild about the idea of not selling gasoline) The gentleman sold out but kept the then new Pacer. It was shipped to his summer home never to be driven again. The car is just as it was. The car is pictured with its original batterys to show the location and layout (now since removed) The first pic is underhood battery pack and the second is the rear set. The car was built with two battery packs for a total of 20 batterys. The original batterys have been removed and the car oiled down with WD 40. I did add the wheels and tires pictured on it. The original Goodyear Polysteel tires started refusing to hold air. The car is not without fault. It will most certainly require a cosmetic and mechanical restoration. It does have the typical rust that a Pacer gets when being driven and left out in the elements and maybe some. Only this car was never driven in the elements. It was just not driven at all. The rust visible seems to be limited to the hood edge, passenger door bottom and drivers side floor and here and there. As you can see the quarters are very nice a very common gone item on normal Pacers. One tail and one park lens was lost in transit. I have the other tail lens. Also the front splash pan is bent. (pictured) Looks like it can be fixed with little effort. I have no way to get the car on a lift for a more clear visial. Expect the worst and hope for the best. The interior is what you would expect for a low mileage car. It will need carpet in the front and a general good cleaning maybe more. The dash pad is free of cracks. I have the owners manual too. I have had several look at the car and think that with new batterys and a little tinkering it will operate just as it did. I have done nothing to try and run it. When new it would run 60+ miles between charging and that was in 1978. With what is known now and the advanced battery science and the fast chargers today it can run further, faster and cheaper possibly with less batteries. Further advances today is that AC power units can be used today. SOLAR PANELS CAN BE INSTALLED FOR A FURTHER RANGE! According to several sources EVA built about 100 or so electric Pacers in sedan and wagon with little to no advertising. The wagon was clearly the best choice. It is just about the size of a SUV on the inside and held two more extra batterys then the sedan. At a retail cost of almost $14,000. in 1978 was twice the cost of a gasoline powered vehicle. Most were sold to electric companies to promote electric power. Even the millitary bought them. In the mid 1970's the fuel crisis was a reality and the government demanded alternative fuel vehicles. EVA filled the need. When everyone was comfortable paying .89 cents a gallon no one was interested in electric vehicles. In 1980 AMC stopped producing the Pacer. EVA used a different platform but eventually went to the wayside as well. The fate of the remaining EVA's that were still on the road were sold off by the electric companies and military minus the electric drivetrain and sold on a bill of sale. The cars were sold as parts or simply scrapped. When sold they were incomplete bodies. You will usually find former EVA's for sale. Some were put back on the road as gas powered. Recently an EVA Pacer like this was sold. No drivetrain and no title. It was only a body selling for almost $3000.! The car for sale here is COMPLETE! If you are new to car collecting there are many sources for Pacer parts. There are Pacer specific clubs and internet sites. There is serious interest in the Pacer outside the US as well. There are also many great people in the hobby. You can check the sources on the web or feel free to contact me. This is your chance to own a rare complete as built EVA pacer with only 25 miles. Certainly the lowest mileage of any Pacer with a clear title in my name. The title states mileage is actual. So if you like the thought of owning the best thing next to a parade float you can't go wrong. Very few original EVA's exist. Be the first on the block to own one! It will be a hit everywhere you take it. Plus you will save on buying all the fluids and common wear items associated with a gas powered car. This will be a fun project to restore and even more fun to drive. On a serious note. This is the sad reality. It is a fact fuel will only continue to rise. Some predict that $4-$5 will be the norm very soon. A new Chevy Volt plug in costs $49K. This is your chance to save thousands on your very own electric vehicle! The Pacer is an icon of the 1970's. It is cool and this very one is electric. Very Cool! Now for the Terms 1. All bid prices and payments are in U.S. currency only.
