Vehicle Detail
1982 Nighthawk CB650SC Up for sale is a Nighthawk 650 in excellent original condition. I really do not want to sell this bike but it is time to thin out my toybox. The purchaser of this rare bike will be the lucky owner of a desirable piece of Honda history that is quickly becoming one of Hondas milestone bikes. The 82 nighthawks are the first year nighthawks with Hondas first flow-through style fuel tank, side cover and tail section that would come to be the pattern for todays crotchrocket styling that has a graceful sculptured sleek profile like nothing else on the road to this point. 1982 was also the last year of Honda's legendary "four into four" chrome upswept mufflers with that unmistakeable Honda-4 fantastic sound. The blacked out engine features four 26mm constant velocity carburators with accellerator pump for crisp throttle response and maintenance free transistorized ignition. To meet the road it features raised white lettered Dunlop Qualifier tires on Comstar alloy wheels with dual front disc brakes and dual piston calipers. I believe this was hondas first and last bike with a color matched frame with an extra long wheelbase for highway driving. The nighthawks also had independently adjustable handlebars, gauges made into a instrument panel and quartz halogen headlight. When I ride I get stopped pretty regularly even by the custom Harley guys to ask about the bike, what it is and its great condition. I have owned this bike since 2004, it has been stored in a heated garage and I have meticulously maintained it. It has been driven regularly, but never in rain or snow. The bike includes an original Hondaline removeable windshield as shown in the photos, and was taken off for the last couple of photos in my driveway. Both of the tires have been replaced with the OE Dunlop Qualifiers about 2 years ago and are in excellent condition with 4/32 front and 5/32 rear tread depth remaining. When I purchased the bike it did have a very small dent in the top of the tank, but I found a NOS new tank in original box that I replaced with after I had lined with a plastic insert so it will remain rust free forever. The bike is not in absolutely showroom new, but I think it is the best original bike you will find. The paint and decals on this bike are in excellent condition, the only real paint chip is below the seat on the top edge of the right side cover (photo shows). The chrome is very good with only a few light scuffs on the engine side covers (photo shows) and exhaust that is only noticeable when looked at closely which is normal for an original 28 year old bike. The left mufflers have a small area where it looks like battery acid may have leaked on it and it discolored the chrome (photo shows). The polished front forks which normally show oxidation on older bikes are in great condition. I have entered it into a few local shows and it has always received a trophy. The bike starts almost before you hear the starter running and runs great, even in the winter months I have started and run the bike weekly. I have only used it for local weekend rides, and have always been impressed with its smoothness and driveability. I put in a new battery this past spring and all of the electronics perform perfectly. The only other flaws are the top of the "K" and the left nighthawk emblem on the side cover broke off when I was waxing it a couple of weeks ago (photo shows it), and I have not found a good one yet, but I'm still looking, they are listed on ebay pretty regularly. I will include the original tool kit, original sales brochure, original owners manual, Clymer shop manual and parts catalog as shown in the photos. I think the photos say it all. I would encourage anyone interested to email me and we can set up a time for your inspection before the purchase. I would prefer pickup only but any shipment of the bike will have to be setup by the purchaser. The Bike is located in the far south suburbs of Chicago, we are close to the intersection of 80 and 94 for easy pickup. I am sure the purchaser will be as happy with this classic bike as I have been. As I said before, I really do not want to sell it but its time has come.
