Vehicle Detail
Very nice mostly original survivor from one of Buick's most desired years. 320 cubic inch Fireball Straight Eight with Dynaflow automatic transmission. Original black with red leather interior trim tag code. The seats and front door panels were replaced before I purchased the car. Rebuilt brake system with new hoses and shoes. Professionally restored gas tank. New power window, seat and top cylinders. Hydraulic power unit currently being rebuilt and will be installed when returned in a few days time. New cloth top boot plus a new black cloth top and rear window curtain are included for a future upgrade. The current vinyl top has been fine for what little use I gave it, but it needs tensioner cables installed to fit properly. The top assembly should be removed and restored before installing the new top. New door and vent window glass, new window fuzzies, new door weatherstrip and new carpets. New hood and trunk emblems. New trunk weatherstrip and restored original jack.Newer exhaust system with original style long muffler. New old stock original Kleenex tissue dispenser with original 1949 tissues included. NOS inside day/night rearview mirror, interior windshield moldings, tail light and fender top parking light lenses. Nearly new Optima battery. The engine starts and runs well, but has not been rebuilt to the best of my knowledge. The Dynaflow shifts smoothly and doesn't leak. The new brakes stop very straight. The car drives like a Roadmaster should and gets lots of looks. The paint is adequate for local shows but is not show quality by any means. I added the sweepspear trim about ten years ago when I was lucky enough to find someone with both doors and all of the remaining trim in mostly excellent condition. This does mean that the small mounting holes for the original trim pieces on the front fenders will need to be filled, but I think the sweepspears really make a big difference on this car. The rear fender pieces of the sweepspears has some pitting and should be replated in the future. This car has had a pushbutton starter installed on the left side of the dash. It works fine, but if you want to install the original gas pedal operated starter I will include a new carb mounted starter switch still in the Buick box. The temperature gauge installed on the passenger side has an interesting story. The former owner of the car said his wife always wanted him to turn on the underseat heater blower. He told her that it would just blow cold air until the car warmed up. She kept asking when it was warm, so he installed the temp gauge right next to the heater temp control so she could see when it was ready to heat. I thought it was such a good story I left it on the car, and it works fine. Eighty thousand miles on the odometer is believed to be correct. I have a title transfer from 1981 when it had 71,000 of those miles, so it has been driven only 9000 miles in the last 30 years. The gentleman I bought it from was a longtime Buick collector who had the Roadmaster in his collection for many years sitting between a 49 Roadmaster Riviera and a 53 Skylark. The man had very good taste. There are a few door dings but otherwise the car is very straight. There are a few wiper scratches on the passenger windshield and the rear bumper has a lot of scratches. The radio lights up but doesn't work. I do have a restored radio I will include with the car. Thank you for looking at my Roadmaster. Please ask any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. On Jan-18-11 at 18:33:16 PST, seller added the following information:I have added picture #22. It shows the spare tire, the battery hold down/ heat shield assembly, and the NOS carb mounted starter switch. The spare is a Miller Imperial, with the logo 'Geared For The Road'. However it has a hole in it so it is for display only.
