Vehicle Detail
1996 Mercedes Benz 500 SL Convertible +++ VIN:WDBFA67F9TF136373 +++ +++Clean Vehicle History Report from AutoCheck+++ Here’s another super-clean, classic Mercedes roadster we’ve just acquired for our great eBay customers! Over its entire life this boulevard cruiser has averaged less than 7,100 miles per year so it’s just now really broken-in. I’ve loved the SL marque in all its iterations over the last half century and have been very privileged to own at least one or two of each type during my four decades of driving. You’ll NEVER go wrong with a classic 450 or 560 SL, but for my money this generation truly offers the most bang for the buck! Get behind the wheel of a four or five year-old SLK and you’ll know what I mean. Yes, the hardtop on the newer model automatically folds into the trunk by itself on those pint-sized machines, but you feel like you’re driving a VW Beetle! Having owned more than twenty SL’s over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. I’m convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive this wonderful roadster. Stick with these graceful, timeless nineties cars and twenty years from now you’ll still love this Mercedes. My name is Mark Thompson and I can be reached directly at 206/914-1173 if you’ve got questions or would like to make an offer before the end of the auction. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment during business hours to inspect the car at our Kenmore location. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: So, have you ever driven an SL? What a treat! Smooth is absolutely the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. Leave the red color-matched hardtop at home in the garage during the summer and just push a button to automatically fold up or down the black Haartz fabric soft top. Push another button and up comes the combination rollbar/windbrake so your hair won’t even be blown around! Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a find this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only! Yes, I know it’s not that old, but time capsule is really a great way to describe this car. The tan leather upholstery is clean and soft (no breakdown of the seat springs either). No dash cracks and great interior wood trim. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall condition in and out is superior. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this SL 500 hates rust and you won’t find ANY here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for drizzle, but we rarely get snow so our winter roads are never salted! The odometer now reads just under 99,600 original miles and is backed by the clean AutoCheck Report you see here on the Ebay listing. Hop in and fire up the strong 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine and it starts immediately! The automatic transmission shifts strongly and as it should – you’ve even got the choice of overriding the automatic function and shifting gears manually if desired. CONDITION: In total, this is an exceptionally clean, well cared for, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing attention: All the glass is in great shape – no cracks or delam spots. Hop in, fire her up and this car starts instantly, even when cold. It runs and drives as it should – strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull or alignment issues! I’ve driven it over the past few days and freeway cruised at 75 MPH +. The paint is in excellent condition and still holds a nice shine. Great chrome and exterior trim all around, too! The 16-inch factory Benz chrome wheels are wrapped with lower-profile 225/55R16 radials with at least 70% tread all-around. Take another good look at the interior photos. The upholstery is all-original with the pictures giving a very accurate view of its clean, soft condition. You’ll feel comfortable sitting on these firm seats for hours and they can be power adjusted to about a thousand different positions. We’ll be sure and include the floormats that protect the clean, unstained carpets, so they’ll stay that way for you, too. The electric window lifts, mirrors and heater/AC system all work great. The dash gauges and exterior lights are bright and true. The jack and spare are in the trunk. The headliners of both the soft and hardtops are in excellent shape. The fabric on the original black Haartz fabric convertible top is in great shape. No rips or tears and no noticeable fading of the material (I’d be very surprised to find it has actually seen much use). About the only negatives I’ve encountered are a crack on the bottom of the left front ABS plastic air dam and the radio - you’d think Daimler could come up with something better than these Becker models that always seem to malfunction. This one works but the volume control is a bit wacky and the stereo sound switches from one side to the other by the minute. Plan on installing something better! Also, I get a tick from one of the lifters if the car idles for a while in park. Not a problem, just an annoyance that stops above 2,000 RPM. Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of Ebay rules and Federal Law) and we also will NEVER, EVER solicit a “Second Chance Offer” from ANY Bidder! Having now sold many, many vehicles here online (as well as thousands more through more traditional sales channels) I want you to feel comfortable buying from us and know that you’re purchasing a very roadworthy vehicle from a well-established, respected Ebay seller! Please feel free to contact me directly through Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime with your questions. My name is Mark Thompson. We’re happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, Eastern Canada, the upper mid-west, Florida, New York and even several from the Mexican Baja have done – fly in (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then road trip the Mercedes to its new home! C’mon, the weather’s still good and you could use an fun fall vacation! In fairness to all bidders Reserves are held in confidence until after the end of the auction. Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You are encouraged to inspect the vehicle at our premises, so come by early to be sure you don't miss this one. We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. If you have a feedback rating of less than five, please contact me at the number shown above before bidding. Additionally, we reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We accept PAYPAL, but for the deposit only as the fees they charge are quite high. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within a week unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Remember, you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or test-drive the vehicle later! Please stop by and do this before the auction ends. Non-paying bidders will be subject to legal action to recover lost monies. All costs of transport to the purchaser’s location are the responsibility of the purchaser. I’m more than happy to store the car in our warehouse for a few days after the sale and will help coordinate pickup and loading with the transporter you choose. VEHICLE SHIPPING AND PICKUP: If you’d like to have the Mercedes shipped to you, there are numerous transport companies to choose from. DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers) has been used by many of our buyers that have not picked up their car or truck in person. Another alternative is to get bids from the U-Ship.com website. Transport companies will email you back with quotes to move the car anyplace in the world! Our zip code for pickup is 98028 (Kenmore, WA) if you’re intending to get an instant online quote. The cost of shipping the car and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER, but we routinely send vehicles all over the country and are happy to help. Additional Terms and Requirements: The buyer will be responsible for licensing requirements in their state or country of residence. If you are a Washington State resident we’re required to collect the mandated 9.9% sales tax, title preparation, any transfer and registration fees (this means if you live somewhere else we collect ONLY a $50 document fee). Because the car is advertised and for sale locally, we reserve the right to cancel this auction early if the Mercedes is no longer available for sale online. All information described above is based on the condition of the car when the eBay listing began. As mentioned above, please feel free to call or contact me via email if you’d like to see and drive the car prior to bidding. I've done my very best to describe the 500 SL as honestly as possible. I can't guarantee that every physical or internal flaw has been uncovered, but have tried to accurately describe the major points at the time of this listing. The car is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Having said that, we know of no reason why you couldn't drive it cross-country the day it leaves for a new home. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese?
