This car is not only Super Unusual just by the fact that its one of just a handful of "M" Code 390-401hp Tripower cars ever built but it also has a very Colorful history and is undoubtedly the only 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan to have ever been factory painted in Special Order 1955 Thunderbird "Goldenrod Yellow". This Galaxie 500 is even more unusual as the Original Owner chose the upscale 500 Trim on this Rare "M" Code HIPO Galaxie over the base trim Model Galaxie. This 19,000 Original Mile Galaxie is a beautiful Combination of a wonderful Rustfree Original body panel car combined with a recent restoration and rebuild of everything from the Paint, Trim, Drivetrain, weather stripping, etc etc....all the while staying true to this Galaxie's History and originality! For those of you who may not be familiar with the 1962 ONLY "M" Code Option on the Ford Galaxie, here is a little more information on what made the "M" Code option more than just a Factory Built High Performance engine upgrade. When you ordered an "M" code Galaxie you not only received the Special Solid Lifter engine which was in itself quite impressive with its specially marked HP engine Block specific to solid lifter engines but you also got all of the HIPO goodies that the later 406 and 427 Galaxie's received, The M Codes were a complete HIPO Package which included Special Solid Lifter HP engine filled with Special Connecting Rods, Special HIPO High Flow Cylinder Head with big valves, Solid Lifter Camshaft, Special HIPO Crankshaft, Adjustable Rocker Assemblies, Cast Iron Factory Headers, High Volume Oil Pump, Aluminum Intake Manifold with '3' 2 Barrel Holley Carburetors, Dual Point Distributor, Thunderbird Valve Covers with 390 High Performance Valve Covers, Special Fuel Canister with 3/8" Fuel Lines, High Performance High Volume Fuel Pump, Special HP Pulleys & Harmonic Balancer, Special Cast Tripower Air Cleaner with Open Element Filter, etc etc. The HIPO Package also consisted of Big Brakes at all 4 Corners, Heavy Duty Suspension, 3/8" Fuel Lines, 15" Kelsey Hayes Wheels, Heavy Duty 4 Pinion Rear Differential, Manual Transmission. Factory Built HIPO Galaxie's were NOT AVAILABLE with Automatic Transmissions, Power Steering, Power Brakes or Air Conditioning! These "M" Code Galaxie's were TRUE Factory Built High Performance cars much like the later Boss Mustangs which were not available with either Automatic Transmissions or Air Conditioning. Make no mistake, this rare "M" Code Tripower Galaxie with the Optional and New for 1962, 4 Speed Manual Transmission and Optional 4.11 gears, is for all intents and purposes a Factory Built Complete Race Package! In fact these Brand New HIPO Package Galaxie's only came with a 3 Month or 4,000 Mile Warranty. Im actually surprised that they came with any Warranty at all but I guess that Ford had to sell these cars with some warranty. Ford built these HIPO vehicles for the guys that wanted a New car that he could immediately hit the streets with and kick some serious ass or he could take it to the local Drag Strip where he could compete in one of the many Drag Racing Classes. Keep in mind that this M Code was born and raised where it all started for the NHRA, Pomona California where this M Code was raced at Pomona Drag Strip as well as Irwindale Dragway! This Bright Goldenrod Yellow Galaxie was a regular on the streets of Pomona and was a terror with the tuning help of the late Les Ritchey. This 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Club Sedan was Special Ordered by a young man by the name of Gordon Charette from Pasadena California. Gordon was just 20 years old and living at home with his parents and working at a local bank during the day while spending his evening hours working at a local Gas Station pumping Gas and turning wrenches. He would work at the Bank during the day and in the evenings he would work at the local Gas Station where he would spend some of his time working on his new 1961 Starliner which he used to terrorize the streets of Pasadena on the weekends. Gordon was driving a new Black 1961 Starliner 390-375hp car back in 1961 which he ordered through Robert Loud Ford in his hometown of Pasadena California. Apparently the Bank where Gordon worked during the day was also the same bank that worked with Robert Loud Ford with the financing of these New Ford's so he had no problem getting financed for his new Black 1961 Starliner even at the ripe old age of 20. Gordon told me that he ordered his 1961 Starliner 390-375hp HIPO car with the help of salesman Dick Helier or "Blonde" as he was called because of his peroxide dyed "Blonde" hair. Gordon said that his New Black 1961 Starliner was ordered with the 390 cubic inch, 375 Horsepower, Single 4 Barrel Carburetor with the 3 Speed Column Shifted Manual Transmission with Overdrive. Gordon referred to his 1961 Starliner as his "Super Stocker" in our phone conversations and in his emails. He said that he ordered the 1961 Starliner not only because he loved the looks of his New Raven Black Starliner with the all new 375 HIPO Package but also because Gordon had a friend with a Bronze colored 1960 Starliner 352-360hp which was said to be the car to "beat" in the area and Gordon wanted to beat this guy in a big way. Gordon said he wanted to beat his friends 1960 HIPO Starliner and with his new Black 1961 HIPO Starliner he was hoping to go out and "Kick its ass"! He said that the 1961 Starliner was crazy fast with some minor modifications and tuning by his friend Les Ritchey who was the go-to guy when it came to messaging an FE back in those days. He shared many strories with me about the Street Racing Scene that was growing in his area and how he loved "cruising" along looking for races and he took great pleasure in beating unsuspecting Corvette's and then cruising over to the Bob's Big Boy in Pasadena "showing" the car! He also told me about driving the 1961 Starliner down the then new "10" Freeway between Colton and Fontana California where he would get the car moving upwards to 120mph with the car in second gear with the overdrive engaged. Gordon's tuner at the time was the late great Ford Drag Racer Les Ritchey who Gordon said was the man when it came to tuning a Ford! Yes the late Ford Drag Racing Legend was the tuner for Gordon's Black 1961 Starliner as well as the 1962 Galaxie 500 M Code shown in this auction! When Ford introduced their FIRST FACTORY installed Tripower Galaxie's for 1962 along with the ALL NEW FOR 1962 4 SPEED Borg Warner Manual Transmissions, well Gordon just had to have one! He drove his Black 1961 Starliner HIPO car with just 6,000 miles over to Robert Loud Ford where Gordon sat down with Dick "Blonde" Heiler to order his new 1962 Galaxie 500 "M" Code Tripower 4 Speed, 4.11 geared Club Sedan. Gordon originally wanted a Corinthian White 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan with the new 390 cubic inch Solid Lifter , 401 Horsepower, Tripower, 4 Speed, 4.11 gear car so he sat down with his Salesman Blonde Heiler and ordered the car. The order was in and a short time after the order was put in with Ford's San Jose California Assembly Plant, Gordon changed his mind and decided that he wanted his New Galaxie in his favorite color, YELLOW! Gordon went over to see Blonde Heiler and told him that he wanted to change the color to Yellow but Gordon didnt want just any YELLOW, he wanted "Goldenrod Yellow" which was not available on the 1962 Galaxie's but was used on the 1955 Thunderbird's and was shown as an optional color on the 1962 Ford Truck line. After a rather lengthy conversation with Salesman Dick "Blonde" Heiler and with the OK from the Dealerships owner(Bob Loud), the Order Change for SPECIAL ORDER # 8073 was submitted to Ford's Jose Assembly Plant where the 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan "M" Code would be built. Keep in mind that this order had been placed several weeks earlier and the car was slated to be built in Corinthian White with the Black Interior and the car had already received its designated Vin Number at the San Jose Assembly Plant. The Original Warranty/ Data Plate is stamped with a Double Stamped Paint Code and the DSO shows "718073" which shows the DSO of "71" and Special Order Number "8073" for Ford's Los Angeles Ordering District. The Original Warranty Plate is interesting in that Special Order Paint cars usually have NO Paint Codes but this car has a Double Stamped Paint Code and the 6 Digit DSO. If it were not for the 2 Original Build Sheets you would surely be lost with this cars build but thanks to my conversations with Original Owner and the 2 Build Sheets, all pieces of the puzzle fit on this One of a Kind Goldenrod Yellow Galaxie! It is said that the "M" Code cars were built from as early as September of 1961 until late January of 1962 before they were phased out with the introduction of the Ford's NEW 406 which debuted right around the first week of December 1961. I believe there are a total of "4" 1962 Galaxie "M" Code cars known to have been built in the month of January 1962 and another "M" Code Galaxie 500 built very late in Production. run for a total of "5" 1962 Galaxie "M" Code cars known to be built on or after Januray 1, 1962. The Galaxie in this auction has a Scheduled Production Date of January 9, 1962. This is information gathered from various Ford Galaxie HIPO experts along with my personal knowledge of the car and with the help of the guys over at the 1962 Galaxie Registry. The exact number of 1962 Galaxie "M" Code optioned cars is unknown but it is said that there likely 100 or so "M" Code 401hp Tripower cars produced. Keep in mind that the "M" Code option was available in all Galaxie body style's from the plain jane Galaxie 2 Door Sedan to the Galaxie 500 2 Door Club Sedan, Galaxie 500 2 Door Hardtop, Galaxie 500 Sunliner Convertible and even Galaxie 4 Door Models although I do not believe that there are any of these cars known to exist......the "M" Code cars are extremely rare and very seldom do Real Deal heavily Documented examples surface! The 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan "M" Code shown in this auction was Special Ordered by Gordon Charette in the Winter of 1961. The order was taken by Salesman Dick "Blonde" Heiler of Robert Loud Ford Sales and Service in Pasadena California and the New 1962 Galaxie arrived at the Dealership in mid January of 1962. Young Gordon Charette would take delivery of his New 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan 390-401hp Tripower HIPO 4 Speed 4.11 gear in its Original and very Unusual Goldenrod Yellow! You have to see this color in person to fully grasp just how Bright Goldenrod Yellow is in natural sunlight.....absolutely awesome! Gordon took delivery of his Bright Yellow Tripower Galaxie 500 2 Door Post car and immediately set out to make the car even faster than it already was with special built headers and Pipes made to run open headers and there were other modifications done with help from Les Ritchey from West Covina who Gordon called the Ford "guru" in those days. The Yellow Galaxie 500 served as the young mans daily driver and weekend Drag Racer for a two years before he joined the National Guard where he would spend the next 6 months. Aftern returning from his time in the National Guard, Gordon set out to pick up where he left off and starting working on the then 2 year old Galaxie to get it ready for some serious Street Racing and the Ocassionaly jaunt down the 1320 at Pomona Dragway or Irwindale Racway. Gordon went over the car with a full tune-up and then installed a set of 4.86 gears and headed up to Irwindale Dragway for a day of racing. The Big Yellow Galaxie was a real screamer with the 4.86 gears but those gears didnt make a whole lot of sense when crusing around town. As Gordon said, the Big Yellow Galaxie ran well and was a lot of fun to race but most of his enjoyment came from racing the car on the Streets. One day while Gordon was out cruising with his girlfriend, he pulled out from a traffic light and he claims that he was only going about 30mph when the engine grenaded on him and the car was towed back to Gordon's parents house where the fairly new Galaxie was parked under the Carport. Gordon eventually married and moved from his parents home and moved into a duplex and the Galaxie was taken along with him. The low mile original Paint Yellow Galaxie 401hp car was taken to his new at the Duplex where it would sit for many years before Gordon finally came to the realization that he would have to let the old Galaxie go.... this was late 1983 and the Galaxie was still California registered but apparently there were some space issues in his area and the old Galaxie was just sort of getting in the way. Thats when Gordon made the decision to give the car to a good friend of his at the time and so after 22 years Gordon Charette and his very Special 1962 Galaxie M Code would part company and he would never see the car again........or I should say he didnt see the car again until May 2009 when he finally was able to see photos of the car again after 25 years! The car was with Gordon and always registered until 1984 when he gave the car to good friends, Jack & Doris Stiver from Altadena California. I still have Gordon's 1984 California Registration for the 1962 Galaxie along with the bill of sale dated March 3,1984. The Galaxie was with Jack Stiver and his wife Doris for the next 5 years and they installed a 390 in the car and used the car as a second car. The Stivers eventually sold the car to Mike & Donna Griffith from La Canada California and the Griffith's kept the car until February 10,1998......it is said that the Griffith's didnt use the car at all and only had the car for a short time(8 months) before it was sold to Doug Swanson from Ceresco Nebraska in March of 1998 with 19,109 miles showing on the odometer...Doug Swanson is said to be a Galaxie collector and also the owner of a Ford Dealership. The Galaxie was then sold on December 21, 1998 to a Ford collector in Medford Oregon by the name of Laurence Rivelli and apparently Mr Rivelli planned on restoring the still rustfree Low Mile Original Paint M Code Galaxie but instead the car sat in another garage for approximately 6 1/2 years before it was sold back in 2005 to Ford Enthusuast/Collector Greg Seger who fell in love with the incredible low Mile Special Paint 1962 Galaxie M Code. Greg knew just how Special this Galaxie was and he realized that this rustfree and super rare "M" Code deserved to be back on the street again after its years of being stored by several owners who had good intentions but never really did anything to the old Gal. Greg wanted to get the car up and running again and he wanted to make sure that it was done right so he started his search for a 1962 Dated 390 engine and he was able to find one from a Ford collector from Coos Bay Oregon. Well Greg wasted no time purchasing the engine for the car and he then set out to build the engine using all of the old school tricks to make these old Ford FE engines to run the way they should while improving on some of the factory weak points in these engines. The engine was sent out and was professionally built and is one nasty sounding, hard pulling engine... I mean this baby sounds absolutely AWESOME! Greg continued to work on the car having the complete drivetrain rebuilt from the engine, transmission and even the Original 9" Rear was gone over with all new internals, gears, axles, bearings, posi unit, etc etc. There are receipts for the engine, transmission as well as many of the new parts that were installed. Greg also had the correct 1962 Tripower all rebuilt and the factory Cast Iron Headers installed along with a custom exhaust which much like the exhaust system that Gordon Charette installed back in 1962, allows you to removed 2 bolts and the car is running open dumps! The Exhaust system on this car is a very well thought out old school style system that starts at the Factory Cast Iron Headers and somes down with Pipes coming off of the Main Exhaust Pipes that look much like a Mopar Max Wedge style exhaust with Caps that unscrew to allow you to run open headers. The Brakes were all gone over and the wheel cylinder, brake shoes, Hardware were all replaced while having the Big Factory Drums resurfaced. The Frontend was checked and some worn bushings were replaced and all new Competition Engineering Shock Absorbers were installed. On the rear of the car were the Original "TRACTION MASTER" traction bars which were installed by Gordon Charette when the car was just a few weeks old back in 1962. The Traction Masters were the best Traction Bars available at the time and just about everybody that ran a Galaxie used these great old Traction Bars! The Traction Masters were removed by Greg Seger and were stripped down and repainted with new bushings installed and they look as good as new! Greg was now to the point of what should I do next? The car was still wearing its Original GOLDENROD YELLOW Paint that was sprayed by Ford's San Jose Assembly Plant back in January of 1962 and although it was faded, the car still looked really cool, original and was a blast to drive! Greg used the car for some local Cruise Night Gatherings and some weekend cruising but he also took the car over to CHAMPION RACEWAY in Medford Oregon where the car would make some runs down the 1/4 mile track and it was like 1962 all over again! Greg used the car still wearing its original paint from late 2005 until the Fall of 2007 when I purchased the car from Greg and had it shipped from Oregon to Pennsylvania. Im not sure what the circumstances were around Greg selling the car but I could tell that he didnt want to part with the old Galaxie. I told him that I would freshen the car and make it look like it did back in 1962 and those were my intentions at the time. When the car arrived, it was love at first sight! I could not believe the overall condition of the car and was amazed at the just how nice the body was but what really blew me away was the way that the car ran and drove. This was one awesome running car with an absolutely nasty sounding engine. I have been lucky enough to have owned several Western cars over the years so the condition of the body was not a big surprise but the overall Originality of the car was what really got me excited. I knew that I could make this 19,000 Original Mile 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan super nice with a little work as the body was nearly flawless and the old Original Paint hid nothing. Well as things often go, my great plans for the Galaxie came to a schreeching halt after a good friend of mine from the Midwest saw the car and just had to have it. Keep in mind that I had absolutely no plans on parting with my 1962 Galaxie M Code as I knew the chances of me ever owning another were slim to none and chances of owning a well documented Special Order Paint car with a 4 speed, 4.11 gear were absolutely impossible. My good friend from the Widwest just happens to be a big Ford collector and this M Code really got him fired up as he understood the rarity of this car. Before I knew it, we were working out a deal that involved trading another car and less than a year after purchasing my M Code Galaxie, the car was on its way to its new home in the Midwest. Things get just a little more strange as within 6 months of getting the M Code home, my friend decided to part with some of his collection and the M Code Galaxie was among the cars sent to auction. Well Im not much of an auction guy or I should say that I dont often find myself at auctions that are 800 miles from home but me and three of my friends decided to drive out to the Midwest to go out to this auction to see what these auctions were all about and to enjoy seeing nearly 1300 Vintage cars all in one place. I gotta say, it was pretty cool but I strongly suggest that you leave your checkbook and credit cards at home! Before I knew it there I was standing there bidding on a car and dont you know that I was the High Bidder on the same 1962 Galaxie Club Sedan M Code that I had traded to my friend a less than a year earlier. Well I was absolutely thrilled and for many reasons. First off I loved the car and knew that I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to have owned this car the first time around and now I was standing there as the New Owner of this M Code Galaxie again and this time I would get the opportunity to do exactly what I wanted to do to this car from the very first moment that Id laid eyes on it less than 2 years earlier. I told Greg when I bought the car back in 2007 that I would give this car the freshening that it needed and now I was going to be able to make good on my promise. In fact when I told Greg that I bought the car back I think he thought I was completely nuts but at the same time, I knew he was just as happy as I was because I told him that the car would be looking just as it did when it was running the Streets and Tracks of Pomona California back in the early 60's. I am happy to say that I think Ive accomplished this now and the car looks absolutely stunning. This 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan is not only a Nasty Sounding Hard Running Street Terror but its also a Real piece of Ford History and a piece of California Drag Racing History with its ties to Les Ritchey and the Wood Brothers. I will elaborate on the Les Ritchey and Wood Brothers Racing connections later. I was very proud to have sent Greg the photos of the completed car this Winter and I Greg was happy to have played his part in this cars colorful history! When I brought the car home for the second time in May of 2009 I decided that I would give this Rare 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan the freshening that it deserved. It was a wonderful Original 19,000 mile car with absolutely no rust or rust repairs and was still wearing its Original San Jose Assembly Plant Goldenrod Yellow Paint that was laid on the car back in January of 1962. The body was as straight as an arrow and the original trim was complete and in nice shape but in need of some restoration. The car had the front and rear windshields removed and new gaskets installed. All of the Trim was removed and all of the Aluminum and Stainless Trim was beautifully Polished and the side spears were repainted in the Original Black. The Grill was sent out and Professionally Polished. The Grill emblem is NOS, Hood Emblem is NOS, Trunk Letters are NOS, Front Fender 390 Birds are NOS, Flip up Trunk Lock Assembly is NOS, Door Handles are Rechromed, Bumpers are Rechromed, Trunk Finish Trim is all New, Rocker Moldings are NOS, Roof Belt Moldings are Beautiful Arizona Originals with super nice Original Chrome, Roof Lucite Ford Emblems are New, all Weater stripping is new, Window Channel Fuzzies are new... This car has had a Trunk Mounted Battery since the car was fairly new and it has a New Ford Power Punch Battery in the Trunk.... The Original Spare wheel, the Original Kelsey Hayes 15" Steel wheel with the Original Firestone Spare Tire is in the Trunk...Original Trunk Mat and Original Paint in the Trunk...original Carboard Trunk/Quarter Panels Inserts in the Trunk with the Original Jacking Instructions still located on the drivers side Cardboard panel....all wheel Opening Trim, Trunk, Hood Trim all Polished....Interior is a combination of Original with some new pieces....beautiful Dash Pad, Extremely Nice Original Painted Dash and all Original Knobs ...very nice original Instrument Cluster pieces looking like a 19,000 mile 48 year old car should....just all very nice original. The Door Panels are Beautiful originals. The Seat Covers are very nice as are the seat buns and the Springs....all very nice....beautiful Carpets... New Correct White Headliner Original Upper Door Paint is very nice....original rear package tray is nice...all armrest are nice....just a very nice combination of original and restoration on the interior. The car is an Original AM Radio car but its had a Radio Delete Plate in the Dash since the 60's but the original Radio and Original Antenna are safely tucked away and are still with the car(they were in the trunk for years). The Fender has a chrome plug where the Antenna Hole would be.....a nice touch and looks very cool. I could have had the antenna hole welded up but I felt as though somebody might like to install the original AM Radio in the Dash again. The original Radio, Speaker and Antenna are with the car and the Antenna is like new. When I got the car home, I was lucky enough to have a very good friend who is a great restoration guy and an all around great guy who just happens to be a Ford guy as well. My friend did just about all of the work to bring the old Galaxie back to the way it looked when Gordon Charette Drag Raced the car on the Streets and Tracks in the Pomona area in 1962-1964. The car was delivered to my friends garage where he carefully removed the front sheet metal from the car and then proceeded to remove all of the Trim from the car as well as removing the glass and the interior. He started out by going over the body which had absolutely NO RUST and NO rust repair and there was absolutely nothing hidden on the car as it was still wearing 100% of its original factory applied 1962 Goldenrod Yellow Paint! The car has 2 small door dings and a small dent on the lower rocker panel that was done by the original owner when he unloaded the car from a trailer back in the 60's. The Original Owner told me so much about this car and this was one of the things that always seemed to bother him. Anyway....there was no rust to repair and minimum body repair needed to get the car ready for its repaint. While the car was being worked on, I was hard at work tracking down as many NOS 1962 Galaxie pieces as I could possibly find with my main interest being exterior trim as there is very little available in reproduction parts for the 62's and Im not much for using reproduction parts unless absolutely necessary. My friend worked diligently on the Galaxie for months while I collected all of the pieces needed to freshen the car. He removed all of the front sheet metal and found the Original Assembly Line Job #'s on the cowl under the inner aprons and all factory assembly line markings were photographed. The inner front fenders were painted while the engine compartment was actually pretty nice to start with no there wasnt a whole lot to do there except to clean it up, do some paint work and correct a couple of incorrect pieces in the engine compartment. The car was finally ready for paint and the car was sent to a restoration paint shop where they have a wonderful reputation for duplicating original style correct paint and thats exactly what I wanted. The car was painted in its Original Goldenrod Yellow and done to look as factory correct as possible. I insisted on original acrylic enamel and I believe that they used Centari single stage paint if I remember correctly. All I can say is that the paint work was dead on correct and exactly what I wanted. It looks better than it did in 1962 yet it doesnt look like its twenty feet deep which is one of the problems with painting these Vintage cars in Base/Clear.....dont get me wrong, I love the look of a beautifully painted car done in base/clear but with this Unusual Paint color, I felt it was crucial to get it just right. This color is absolutely blinding in the natural sunlight of a beautiful Spring day but believe me when I tell you that the best thing I could have done for this car was to have it painted the way it is. The Paint job is Excellent quality and I am very pleased with the finished product. The Goldenrod Yellow Paint on this car is very nice with no issues. The Paint looks factory correct in my opinion. The car was painted in August 2009 and has less than 50 miles on the car since it was completed. While the car was at the paint shop, the Trim was off being Polished and the Side Stainless and Aluminum was Polished while the center section was repainted in its correct Black. The Front and Rear Windshields was removed and New Windshield Gaskets were installed before the Original Date Coded Glass was put back in the car and while the Glass was out, a New correct White Headliner was installed. The Grill was sent out and was polished to a beautiful luster while an NOS Grill Ornament was installed as well as an NOS Chrome Hood Emblem with a New Red, White, Blue and Gold Ford lucite insert. The Hood Molding is the Original and was polished as were the Original wheel opening moldings. I believe two of the wheel opening Moldings were NOS and were polished before they were installed. The Rocker Moldings were also professionally polished with one of the Moldings being an NOS replacement. After purchasing several pairs of NOS Door Handles and not being happy with the quality of the chrome, I had the Original Door Handles sent out and Rechromed. The Chrome Roof Belt Moldings which mount between the quarter glass and the Back windshield on top of the quarter panels were both replaced with super nice Arizona originals and the Ford emblems on the Roof Pillars were also replaced with New pieces. The Trunk chrome " Galaxie" letters were replaced with New pieces while the flip up Spring Loaded Trunk Lock assembly was replaced with an NOS Original. The Trunk Molding is an Original and although it was polished and looks very nice. The Rear Aluminum Moldings that run the width of the rear body panel below the Trunk Lid with the "500" on the Gas Door are all New pieces and they look absoutely gorgeous. The Rear Bumper was rechromed and looks wonderful. The Weather Stripping which is 1962 Galaxie 2 Door Sedan only was replaced with New pieces and they are nice quality and an excellent fit. The Trunk weather stripping was also replaced with a new weather stripping and looks/fits well. The Front Bumper was also rechromed and looks very nice. There was far more done to the car but I think you have the idea. The exterior of this car looks beautiful and has a great nostalgic look while also keeping with the very original theme of the car. The body is very straight when you look down the sides with no evident repairs or prior damage...just a very nice job on this rustfree original body panel California car. I believe that whoever ends up with this 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan will be very pleased with the car. I am only selling the car because I have completed the car and I want somebody else to enjoy it as I am not able to do so. I would love to see this old Galaxie 2 Door Sedan Factory Hot Rod go to a good home! The Drivetrain was rebuilt by the cars former owner from Oregon(receipts) and the complete drivetrain rebuild has less than 1000 miles since it was done. The car has a C1AE Block that was sent out and decked to square, Bored and Honed to 4.0805" with the Various ports drilled or altered for better oiling...same goes for the Mains, Crankshaft was cleaned, miked and polished, Rods were all reconditioned, shot peened, Block modified for Cam Thrust, Cylinder Heads were resurfaced .010, Ported, Polished and 3 Angle Valve Job, Rotating Assembly was Balanced with Flywheel resurfaced,Balanced.. Original Tripower intake was blasted (1L November 1961) and the 3 Holley Carburetors were rebuilt....distributor was rebuilt, rocker assemblies rebuilt, Comp Cams Solid Lift .605 Lift 294 Duration, Original Fuel Canister with 3/8" Fuel Line, Original Restored Yellow Top Coil,Water Pump New, Alternator Rebuilt, High Volume Melling Oil Pump and 8 Quart Oil Pan, Correct style NOS Fuel Pump, Radiator recored, Original Cast Iron Ford Headers, Borg Warner T-10 4 Speed Manual Transmission Rebuilt, New Heavy Duty Clutch, New Pressure Plate, Original Ford Bench Seat Shifter Rebuilt, Driveshaft Balanced, Original 9" Rear all rebuilt with New Dutchman Axles, New Posi Unit, New 4.30 Gears, New Axle Bearings and Seals and more. The engine starts easily and is a little cold blooded but comes to a nice throaty choppy idle after a minute or so...sounds absolutely awesome and nothing quite sounds like a solid lifter engine with a lumpy cam. The engine pulls very hard and feels great all through the power band. There are no unusual noises from the engine, no smoke, no problems. The Transmission shifts perfectly even with the Original Ford shifter. I guess it goes to show that these shifters were not all that bad with a good tight shifter. The shifter works well with the chrome triggers for the lock-out reverse. There are no problems, no grinding, no popping out of gear and no synchro problems....just a good tight transmission and an excellent Original shifter with Beautiful Chrome, Lock Out Reverse and the correct Bench Seat larger 4 speed shift knob. There is also a Vintage Hurst Line-Lock and the buttom is attached to the Original 4 speed shifter and looks very nostalgic. Its easily removed if you dont care for the Line-Lock although I love it...way cool and old school. The car runs and drives very well although the 4.30 gears are a little steep for highway cruising although I've had the old Gal on the Interstate. I like this Galaxie just the way it is although you could certainly install a set of 3.90 or 3.50 gears if you want to cruise a little more on the highways. In fact I would be happy to install a more streetable gear if the new owner wanted. The rearend is all rebuilt and there are no problems or noises. The rear suspension is the original heavy duty style leaf springs with Racing style shock absorbers and the Vintage Traction Master traction bars that have been on the car since 1962. The Exhaust System on this car is a very smart and very well thought out exhaust with the head pipes coming from the factory Cast Iron Headers and the pipes have an extension on each side with quick disconnect Dumps that literally take less than a minute to open and run open headers....the exhaust goes back to an "H" Pipe cross-over and then back to a pair of 2 Chamber Mufflers which I believe to be Flowmasters....from there the Tailpipes are very nicely bent up over the rear and exit at an angle behind the rear wheels...looks awesome, sounds great with the big 3" pipes and the whole exhaust system is welded up with no issues, no clamps....very well done...first class job! This 1962 Galaxie 500 Club Sedan is a very cool car and quite a rare car as well. This Factory Tripower, 4 Speed, Factory 4.11 gear car is an interesting car from every angle from its low production figures to its documented history and one-off paint color. This is a true 19,000 mile rust free "M" Code Galaxie and its an absolute pleasure to drive. As you look through the pictures keep in mind that this is without a doubt, one of a kind. This car has everything you'd want in a collector car from its known and documented history to its wonderferful rustfree body to the factory 4 speed transmission, Original MultiCarbureted car, 2 build sheets, frame stamped vin number, Special Order Paint and ties to some legendary Drag Racers. This is a wonderful old car that will provide its new owner with many years of fun cruising or even some Nostalgia Super Stock Racing if thats what your into. This car is dead straight and as solid as they come. The Interior is beautiful and comfortable with no real issues. The exterior is very nice and the car looks wonderful with a color that lends itself beautifully to natural sunlight. There are no disappointments with this 1962 Galaxie 500 "M" Code. Its just a great car and a super rare car to boot. This 1962 Galaxie 500 is far more unusual than most 1962-1963-1964 Galaxie with either the 390, 406 or 427 power engine. Sure the 427 cars are the most desirable but if your looking for something that is outright RARE then look no further. I have owned many cool Galaxie's over the years including several 427 Convertibles and more than my share of 63 1/2 & 64 Fastbacks and have enjoyed them all but this 1962 is undoubtedly the most unusual Galaxie that I have ever had the priviledge of owning. Its just Rare Rare Rare with the optional drivetrain which is unknown to many Ford guys and even some Galaxie guys have little if any knowledge of the 1962 "M" Code option......lets take a engine option package that is a bit of a mystery to many Ford guys and combine it with special order paint and its rare 500 Club Sedan Body Style, 4.11 gears, 4 speed transmission, 2 Build Sheets, Owner History and you'll get the idea. There are many Galaxie's that are advertised on Ebay as Rare cars and every once in awhile you actually find one thats truly rare. This is one of those cars. I can count the number of real "M" Code Galaxie's that Ive seen advertised on Ebay in the last 10 years on one hand if that gives you some idea as to their rarity. I understand that many of you guys like the 63's or 64's and that everybody loves a 427 car but those cars are almost common in comparison to "M" Code cars. Dont get me wrong, I love those 63's & 64's as much as the next guy but there is just something about a good 62Galaxie that pushes my buttons. This is one of those cars. Anyway..... Thanks for looking and for reading this very long auction. KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A RARE FACTORY 401-hp TRIPOWER 4 SPEED, 4.11 GEAR CAR WITH SPECIAL PAINT AND LOTS OF DOCUMENTATION! HOW MANY FACTORY 400+ HORSEPOWER CARS WERE PRODUCED IN 1962? THERE WERE THE 1962 CHEVY IMPALA 409-409hp CARS AND THE 1962 DODGE 413-410hp MAX WEDGE CARS ... THE 1962 PONTIAC 421-405hp SUPER DUTY CATALINA'S... KEEP IN MIND THAT THESE CARS WERE THE TOPS DOGS FOR 1962 AND A GOOD MAX WEDGE OR 1962 SUPER DUTY PONTIAC WILL BRING 75k-125k.... THIS SHOULD BRING THIS GALAXIE'S RARITY INTO PERSPECTIVE... On Jan-17-11 at 19:21:57 PST, seller added the following information: The undercarriage shows some of the original Gray Primer that was sprayed on at Ford's Los Angeles California Assembly Plant. The undercarriage was cleaned up a little but it was just too good to get into doing much more. The TRACTION MASTER brand Traction Bars which were installed by the Original Owner when this car was just a few weeks old were removed, stripped, repainted, new bushings installed and then reinstalled on the car. They are super cool. I like the old Hot Rod look of this Galaxie with the New Radir Wheels up front with NOS Vintage Goodyears and the Vintage Slicks out back on Steel wheels. The Exhaust is nicely done and sounds nasty and is easily run as Open Headers by Opening the Caps which takes about a minute.... just a very cool old Galaxie. This is not a frame off restoration... it was just too good to take if off the frame in my opinion. It was however tastefully freshened with a ton of time and money spent on this car. I have the better part of $50k in this car and you wont find an Original 1962 Pontiac Super Duty or a 1962 Max Wedge Mopar for anywhere near the reserve.
