Vehicle Detail

1969 INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER SCOUT 800A Please let the photos load below – there are 45 of them… I know this is long-winded but I want to be sure to mention everything up front & I appreciate if you are interested that you please read it in full… We purchased this Scout this summer from our next door neighbor who sold it to us after her husband passed away & she decided to leave New Mexico. They owned it for about 8 years. They had purchased it from the original owner (I tried to verify on title but not sure). The Scout was bought new in Arizona & was used mostly on ranches & time spent on the trails by the first owner. Our neighbor bought it & used it mostly for pulling their trailer taking slash to the pit & they would take it up into the Cibola National Forest & an occasional supply run to Socorro, a 3 hour round trip. It was registered up until we bought it. We have not registered it nor have we transferred the title. Odometer shows 35,000 - no idea of the actual miles... We would love to rebuild it for running the many trails but just too many more important projects going on & we just don’t have the time. This is NOT being sold as a daily driver. It will need to be trailered & needs some attention before considering putting it on the road or even the trails. This is a nice unmolested Scout, has the original bronze paint still in good condition inside & out - for a 42 year old finish. The roof looks like it is in very nice condition. The body has the typical rust for a Scout, just in front of the real wheels at the rockers, a result of 40 years of mud spackled in the fender wells. There is some surface rust but other than that this is a nice Scout with solid floors, frame etc. The body has dents & other damage as the photos show but has never been in a major collision & is pretty straight. It has a couple bullet holes also which add character! We did not take photos underneath as it has years of dried mud coating everything making it impossible to see. The Scout starts, runs & drives (check out the video). This is a 196E 4 cylinder with a 3 speed manual transmission. It has Warn locking hubs, not sure what axles. Starter does have some flat spots but does work & the Scout will start after a couple tries. The battery holds a good charge even after sitting for a couple of months & starts in 20 degree weather. I just did a partial tune up to get it running better. I replaced the points, plugs & air filter. Napa didn’t have the distributor cap, rotor or wires in stock so they were not replaced but should be as it still misses at times. The air cleaner is obviously not the right one as it was painted at one time & the filter I bought is too tall for it. The oil is still good & the antifreeze bright green. The carb was recently rebuilt but needs to be adjusted as it is running rich. The hoses are relatively new. We have driven it about 10 miles since we got it. I did run it down one of the dirt roads in our neighborhood & took it up to 45MPH. Keep in mind this has power-nothing so the steering & brakes take some getting used to, especially when pulling a trailer. The steering is a bit loose & it wanders some. The four wheel drive works in both 4L & 4H. The drivers door does not open from the outside but not a problem as the vent window allows access to the interior handle which works fine. The drivers door only catches on the first click but does not close completely, a nasty rattle is the result when driving. The passenger door closes tight with a little force & works inside & out. The windows roll up & down but the tracks are very loose & yet another set of serious rattles when driving. It is a rattle trap with the windows down & it doesn’t help that many of the roads in our state are either dirt, mud, rock or snow & just plain rough. The rear hatch opens as it should as does the tailgate, nice & tight. Hood is the same, tight. The roof had an antenna on it at one time & has since been patched by a small piece of metal. I was told that the roof has never been off. The windshield has a crack & some BB holes. The rest of the windows are in very good condition with minimal to no scratches. The interior is also in nice unmolested condition. The seats are in very good condition & still comfortable. Floors are solid. All of the gauges work, the radio lights up but no sound (did not check out speaker connection). Even the interior light works with the manual switch! The glove compartment is missing the box inside. The wheels are very nice, almost in new condition. The tires are 2 mismatched pairs, both hold air no problem & both pair have decent tread. Also included is a 16” rim with a bias ply tire (spare?) & maybe one or 2 other wheels & tires. I have not checked the bolt pattern so I am not sure if they are Scout or not. Scout has dual gas tanks with the factory gauge that works with a switch for both. I have been using the drivers side as the passenger side has a locking cap on it. We did get an extra key but have not tried opening it. The Lights: · Brake lights work · Tail lights work · Rear turn signals work · License plate light works · Headlights work · Front turn signals do not work · All gauge lights work with exception of speedo This is a great project for complete restoration, or fix it up for a daily driver. The Scout will have to be trailered as it needs attention before going any distance. We will deliver the Scout safely on a flatbed trailer for $1 a mile if interested. We live in a very remote area in New Mexico. If you want to look up where we are our zip is 87821, Datil New Mexico. This is being sold as-is & has been described to the best of our ability. We will consider trade for a nice 4X4 ATV. Must have good torque to do work on our property & be in top running condition - no junk please. Accessories a bonus! We will not put out any cash tho.... On Jan-11-11 at 10:16:34 PST, seller added the following information: PLEASE READ: WE HAVE LOWERED THE RESERVE, A FEW MORE BIDS & IT WILL SELL! We have had quite a few questions about whether the Scout could be driven & again the answer in my opinion is NO, as the listing states. This Scout NEEDS to be trailered, no question. Again, we have had it for about 6 months & have not driven it more than 10 miles total. We are not familiar with the vehicle enough to know how reliable it is. It NEEDS to be tuned & all fluids checked before it even runs strong enough to go even down the street. It NEEDS to be completely gone over before driving. I have no idea what it may or may not need as I never got the chance to mess around with it enough to be able to make an honest assessment! Keep this in mind when bidding so we are all on the same level & so you are not disappointed if you do win the Scout.
