Vehicle Detail
~~oo00oo~~ Bentley T2 The penultimate of the Bentley T/Shadow series from Crewe 1977 Fully restored to factory original specifications – an absolute stunner! This is a very rare and valuable special order Bentley T2 in "the" most desirable colour combination. Finished in Mason's black with hand-painted fine lines in “desert sand” to the waist lines and the hubcap beauty rings, the Connolly hide interior is finished in light tan with rich ebony piping and matching floor rugs in the same theme. This Bentley T2 is a stunning example that has recently been fully restored by Park-Ward Motors - a leader in Rolls-Royce restoration with over 30 years Rolls-Royce and Bentley experience. Indeed; "Masters of the Art". Only a very small number of Bentley T2s were made. They are the twin sister to the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II. It is differentiated by a Bentley radiator grille, mascot and "Flying B". It has a slightly lower bonnet (hood) with different shaping in the sheet metal and with the car having “Bentley” hubcaps, boot and head-light brow badging. It was also fitted with a front air-dam (that usually “go missing” as a result of curb knocks). Their limited number is notable; out of the 10,000 odd Shadow IIs manufactured (including their long wheel base derivatives; the Wraith II) only 5% were Bentley T2s. This makes them highly desirable in their category. Especially when you consider the even smaller amount that are remaining in service – probably only 200 world-wide. This is an even rarer car by virtue of its Rolls-Royce endorsed sun-roof. Many may not be aware but Rolls-Royce did not offer sun-roofs as an option on the Silver Shadow/Bentley T series. However, if a customer insisted, at extraordinary cost, pre-delivered cars were shipped from England to a coach-builder in France where the sun-roofs were hand crafted and fitted. In 1977, the cost was some $5,000 (that is a staggering $20,000 in today's money!) A further interesting piece of historical trivia unique to this car; it was ordered new by the Ambassador to Switzerland based in the US and in addition to the sun-roof, the rather immoderate purchaser specially ordered the car with an additional dash clock. Side by side, were mounted matching factory VDO clocks - one for local American time, and the other for local Swiss time. Both quartz movements, of course! The exterior presentation of this Bentley T2 is simply breath-taking. The body is exceptionally straight and the paint is of an excellent high standard and finish. It was repainted at considerable cost thru Park-Ward's affiliated classic-car body-shop which is experienced in all aspects of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Car body restoration. The car was bare metal re-sprayed with front and rear windows out and fully stripped of all body mouldings. The final product is flat finish consistent, very shiny and deep lustered and, being new, is without any scratches, chips or dings of any kind (any slight mark you may see in the photos is dust or foreign matter which simply "stands out" in photographs of a black car) . The fine lines were hand-painted by a craftsman of the art and these are done on the waist-rails and hubcap beauty trim rings in accordance with Rolls-Royce factory recommendations. The colour is "desert sand". Considerable attention to detail during the restoration process was dedicated to the finishing touches including many new mouldings, front and rear window rubbers, body finishing rubbers and fasteners. The car actually presents much nicer in real-life than it does in the photographs (usually it is the other way round) – the photos tend to down-play the "depth" of the new Mason black finish which in real-life is simply stunning! The burl walnut wood finishes were redone at considerable cost by Park-Ward's Rolls-Royce wood restoration experts and they present in excellent original RR condition. The finish is like glass with no less than 15 coats of clear lacquer, each hand-rubbed between layers. Thanks to the grace of Mother Nature, the burl is very dark, rich and intense and with its mirror finish is deep and inviting. It contrasts perfectly with the light tan and black piping theme of the interior. The finish can only be best appreciated in real-life by "touch & feel", not to mention "smell", with the perfumery of rich leather and wool notable. The Connolly leather is in stunning condition throughout without any marks or blemishes. It is finished in a light tan with ebony black piping. The carpets are the same theme. The interior is an elegant contrast with the black exterior. The leather has had some leather re-done with Connolly flown in from the UK with everything else re-Connollised (a detailed hand-finish colour- tanning process which ensures an original finish and presentation). Carpets are brand new original specification Wilton wool (also flown in from the UK) with the correct hand-crafted leather edging carried out by our experienced RR motor trimmers. The hood-lining and rear parcel shelf is also brand new, finished in a matching light tan broad-cloth. Nothing is out of place and presents brilliantly. Please have a look at the photo link of the many close-ups of the leather. The dash is perfect with no leather pulling typically seen around the vents. The interior of the car can confidently be referred to as "virtually perfect". All glass, chrome and bright work are excellent. All lights, instruments, features and functions are in working order. Mechanically, it has been thoroughly checked with anything requiring attention repaired and/or replaced as required. Everything is original so it is to OEM Rolls-Royce standard without modification. Everything is functioning as it should including hydraulics & brakes - bled and pressure tested with various parts replaced/over-hauled (reservoir, pumps, accumulator, hoses etc). All electrics; seats, windows, gauges and instruments work well. The climate control is in good order with the heater nice and hot and the air conditioning blowing icy cold. Brand new whitewall tires are fitted all-round and these have travelled fewer than 100 road-test miles. The car came to us with its original fitment Avon Turbo-steel tyres which, on Bentleys, were without whitewalls to give the more "sporty" look. I elected for a set of whitewalls which I think are more befitting of the marque. (Should an interested buyer prefer the original Avons, arrangements can be made for their supply). As expected of a fine example, the car comes with its correct jack, tools and operating manual. At 60,000 miles, the mileage is not verifiable but, irrespectively, the current condition makes it look like 6,000 miles. This Bentley T2 was first delivered new to Los Angeles in August 1977 and as recently as 2005 the cars history showed domicile in Malibu, California. It appears to have been a west-coast cars for almost all its life and certainly, its very dry and scale-free underside confirms this. The T2 came to Illinois in 2010 for its detailed restoration and it is most likely these photos in the snow are probably its only such adventure. It is very importnat to note, this Bentley has NOT been "tarted-up" but professionally restored with all aspects attended to correctly and with pride and passion by craftsmen in all aspects Rolls-Royce. New paint ($11,000), re-Connollised leather ($4,000), wood re-French polished ($3,000), interior headlining and carpets ($5,000), completely workshop inspected and mechanically over-hauled where required. Even the stainless and bright-work were completely removed and hand-polished off the vehicle and again when assembled and mounted. The car is an extremely beautiful presenting example that is well in advance of any Bentley T2 and is in excellent driver condition. It easily ranks a 9 1/2 out of 10 having had over $30,000 spent on her during the restoration process. ~~ This very stately Bentley T2 fashioned appropriately in Mason's black is in outstanding condition and would be amongst the finest representation of the marque you will find. It is a perfect museum candidate. I am not a broker or retail car dealer; I am a professional car collector of some 30 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I take a lot of pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid or make an offer and I openly welcome any potential buyer to come and personally inspect the car. Once you bid or make an offer, you are doing so to buy WITHOUT conditions. A $2000.00 deposit (non-refundable) is required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance unless you are willing to meet the cost of transfer fees. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. If all the funds are not received as indicated above, I reserve the right the keep the deposit and resell the vehicle by re-listing or to another bidder. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost. As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make every effort to bring my cars to a very high standard but the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it is not always possible to attend to every single item, or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked an item. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 33 years old. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition: The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, unforeseen imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. Being a classic car in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, the mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any additional costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days from auction end, a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction end. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-33 year old vehicle, and while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country”. At least, I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars in enclosed carriers from where I bought them to my home. PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS, DO NOT BID AS, RESPECTFULLY, THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS. ~~oo00oo~~ "RRMOTORSINC": Qualified & experienced in Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars world-wide for 28 years
