Vehicle Detail
Opinions vary but most collectors will agree that 1959 was one of the most interesting years for the American Auto Industry. Wild designs and big fins were common among just about all of the manufacturers. I have always had a soft spot for 1959 Impala's and this is one of the nicest I've owned. This car has been a proud member of my collection for the past couple of years. I can take no credit for her beauty or condition. This is exactly how I got her. I always like to get as much history as possible when I buy a vintage car for my collection. The information I received at my time of purchase was somewhat limited. Here is what was passed on to me- The original owner pampered and maintained the car well into the 1970's. The 2nd owner also had the car for nearly 20 years. At some point over the last 15 years, some refurbishing and restoration was performed to bring the car to it's current condition. A gorgeous car in every respect. The body, paint and interior are exceptionally nice. The drivetrain has been serviced accordingly and the car drives well. There's the short version. For those that prefer more detailed information, here it is: This is a very solid car. My explorations have discovered no ugly patch-work or abuses of body fillers. Even the undersides are solid and original. The correct color paint (Fawn Beige #920) was redone several years ago. A quality job was performed at that time. The body panel alignment, fit and gaps are excellent and all panels are extremely straight. The doors open and close perfectly. Sighting down the sides is impressive. Even the long quarter panels are smooth with no orange-peel, waviness or washboard effect. Only a handful of minor blemishes and imperfections in the form of very small chips can be found on close inspection. The paint holds a very high shine and gloss. All chrome, stainless trim (polished) and moldings are in beautiful original condition. Factory dual antenna's and rearview mirrors. The glass is also very nice with the exception of tiny bubbles along the edges of the wing-vent windows. The entire grille area, emblems, lenses, etc, are all in wonderful shape. The car shows and presents itself extremely well. Compliments are overwhelming every time I open my garage and even more so when I take her out for a drive. She deserves all the praise she receives. A visually amazing car from every angle and view. The quality of the original trim is outstanding. The interior is near perfection and requires no excuses. The seats, door panels, carpet and headliner are excellent. All brightwork, switches, levers and knobs are very nice. The original radio is in-place but the speaker only makes noise for a second when you first turn it on. The lights, wipers and heater fan are functioning. The speedometer and fuel gauge do not work at this time. Even the glovebox light comes on. One of the nicest insides you'll find. Mechanically the car is sound. The 283-V8 runs smooth and starts easily even after sitting ignored in my garage for extended periods. The 2-speed transmission shifts correctly. Factory power steering turns with one finger. The brakes stop the car well. The dual exhaust system is in great shape but the mufflers are a little loud for my taste. The wide white wall tires have very few miles on them but they are the original style bias-ply. I would recommend an upgrade to radial tires before a long roadtrip. I enjoy the car locally and drive her without concern. I will make brief comments under some of the upcoming photos. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members from my collection. I feel fortunate for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations. I welcome and encourage showing my Impala in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. There are over 80 photos to view and I apologize if they start looking similar and you get dizzy scrolling through them. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the car for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My number is 503-887-1231 and calls between 8AM and 8PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Wednesday evening, the 22nd of December at 7:30PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a sincere offer and the car becomes no longer available. PLEASE, read my terms of sale located towards the bottom of this screen. I'm a kindhearted person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTION I did not set a reserve price on my Impala. I believe this is the most honest way to do things. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. My offer of answering questions and clarifying details is genuine, so please don't hesitate to contact me. I took every picture you're about to see with my handheld Canon digital camera 1 week before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. These pictures show the car clearly and correctly. This is my car and these photos depict her real-life appearance. Thank you for your time and Merry Christmas, DAVE Me driving across the Fremont Bridge here in Downtown Portland the same day I took all of these pictures. No bragging intended but this photo should be on a calendar. Please note- That is just reflections in the door, not a flaw. If you look closely you will notice the small bubbles I mentioned at the edge of the wing vent window. Only visible on very close inspection but needed to be mentioned. Factory dual rear antenna's. Brightwork, stainless trim and chrome is very nice. The spare tire well is solid. Looking down both quarter panels is impressive. They are amazingly straight. That is a difficult accomplishment on such long panels. All of the original hubcaps are in mint condition. Just another gorgeous quarter panel. Please notice the very small touched-up paint chip. Again, only visible if pointed out. This small paint crack is located at the edge of the passenger side fender skirt. It has remained unchanged. This is an extreme close-up photo. The interior needs no written description. It truly speaks for itself. I turned the flash on for this photo. The next picture is the same but with natural light. Un-noticed moisture had collected under the trunk mat at some time in her life and caused minor typical rust-scale in this area. This is the original trunk floor and does not need replacing but attention to this area would be a rewarding task. The engine compartment is outstanding. The undersides are in solid original condition. These '59 Impala 2-door Hardtops are getting hard to find, especially in this condition. Most of them didn't stand the test of time. This one survived with gusto and remains a beautiful car at 51 years old. Terms of Sale: 51yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS: Please read and agree with the following: I have described my car honestly and to the best of my ability based on 25 years of owning and driving classic cars. I have faith in the drivability of this car as stated in my above description. Free and clear Oregon title in is my possession. I drive this car without concern but she is over 50 years old and routine service and repairs due to the car's age should be expected. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others. I would appreciate the winning bidder contacting me immediately upon end of auction just so the lines of communication are opened. My number is 503-887-1231. A $1000.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction ending preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements just let me know BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. I have been with the same bank here in Portland for over 8 years and the Management staff knows me. You are welcome to contact them for your own security if you like. The remaining balance is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds. Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending. TRANSPORT - SHIPPING I am happy to be an active and hands-on part of this process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form and other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use and trust a privately owned trucking company when transporting members of my collection. Dennis is a great guy and his direct number is 503-343-4884. He is based here in Oregon and has handled my transport needs perfectly for the last 4 years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them were just fine. My location zip code is 97214. Coast-to-Coast transport is around $1500.00 and even less the closer you are to Oregon. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy to arrange. If you are outside of the United States or Canada, you MUST contact me BEFORE bidding. If you are an eBay member with negative history or have a (0) or low transaction score, I need to hear from you just to verify your sincerity and accept your bids as genuine. We all started from (0) and I'm happy to give a leg up. I reserve the right to cancel bids for these reasons. Communication is all I ask. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD.
