Vehicle Detail
On October 16th, 1970, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Clemmons drove their 1964 Ford Thunderbird to the Pugmire Lincoln-Mercury dealership, located in Marietta Georgia. They traded it in on this 1970 Mercury Cougar 2 dr hdt key # 0622 1049 serial # 0F91H566343 Engine # 65A Y AA 15F 2 X Auto transmission #21 Medium Bronze Metallic, white vinyl roof, Select shift transmission, wsw e - 78x14,Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Am radio, remote driver side mirror, wire wheel covers at a cost of $3963.00 Mr. Clemmons purchased this car for his wife and it was driven by her up until it was retired by her in 1994 . UNFORTUNATELY during this time, the car received a repaint by maaco, during which they stripped the top to the metal to install a new vinyl roof. They did not repaint the top of the car, they applied the vinyl directly to the fresh metal ( I am sure they told Mrs. Clemmons different) Over the years as moisture gathered beneath the vinyl, the top slowly rusted away. The top bows are still good as is the headliner. This car was registered up until 2004 when Mrs. Clemmons passed. It was then that the car sat up until earlier this year when i finally convinced her adopted son to sale me the car, rather than jerk the engine out to put in a pup wood truck. It has been in dry storage since. I had planned on having a new top skin installed and keeping the car for myself, HOWEVER, due to a non paying bidder on the car I was selling to be able to afford to keep this one, I must offer it up for sale now. I'm going to tell you the bad about the car to get it on out of the way, It obviously needs a new top skin or a complete roof, depending on the car you want to build. The driver side door post, where the hinges are have some rust through that needs repaired. The dashpad is cracked, the driver seat is seperating at the seams. The carberator needs new gaskets. Some rust in the low driver door skin, Some rust in the passenger side floorpan, I can no tell about the condition of the cowl, I do not feel anything and the vents appear to be in good shape. Now for the good. All matching numbers, Clear Open title Signed off on by the original owner ( I have a bill of sale proving I own the car ) Car is very straight, The trunk area is in very good shape, Original Uniroyal spare, Only been on the ground once, Original Jack, Deck lid and trunk lip in good shape, some small rust through around the fuel filler neck. Car starts and runs smooth, still has some old gas in the tank, Headliner still good, sail panel vinyl needs replaced on the passenger side, top of the rear seat has come loose at the seams rear panels are in good shape, Carpet is still descent, door panels are still in good shape, all dash lights and buttons work, the blinkers still chase, hood insulation is still in place, grill is very nice, front valance panel is a little warped but solid, Bumpers need chromed. I believe this old car is well worth saving and I know that there is someone out there with the money to do so, I am putting a low reserve on this car in the hopes someone will save it, it is a running, driving car. If you have any questions please ask, if you are in the area and would like to view the car, contact me for an appointment.
