Vehicle Detail

1984 VW Westfalia Camper Bus ~~be outdoors~~ 1984 VW bus with manual shift, factory air, and full camper package. This bus served my daughter well when she spent the summer in Maine but now the vehicle sits too much and we needed a 4x4 for the winter. This is a great van that has all the parts included, and they work. Fridge works three different ways - on propane, 12v, or 110v with electric hookup. Stove is propane and that system works well. Water capacity is about 30 gallons and the sink pump works fine. All the curtains are intact plus there is the original full front window curtain for privacy and a rear bug screen to leave the hatch up for air flow in warm weather. Also the skylight has a screen/curtain. This van has the third seat, which is rare. Remove four bolts and the third seat slides out to convert it from people van to camper. There is a locking gas cap. The van starts right up and runs out good down the road with good brakes. All lights, gauges, wipers, radio, cassette, latches work. Tires are decent and there is a spare mounted up under the front. Original jack is on board as well as the full manual ($90 value) and many maintenance records on the vehicle. If you are not familiar with these vehicles, the tent camper is very quick to pop-up and down. There are many compartments for all your stuff. They are basically always ready to camp, haul people or just stuff. You have two beds for two (smaller) people up in the tent and two (bigger) people down. The beds and all cushions are in good shape. Everything is here and original. These vans always draw attention and everybody ask you if you are selling. Mechanical details: The AC only blows cold for a short period after a charge – so it has a large leak. The power steering does not work – pump has been replaced but it needs the front piece replaced at the steering unit. It is very driveable but parking lot steering is a little extra labor. The exhaust is a little leaky but it is not too loud – it will need to be addressed sooner or later. The engine performs well but did use 1 quart of oil from Kentucky to Maine. The water coolant level needs to be checked from time to time and a little added. The radiator cooling fan is on a switch under dash – basically turn it on in the summer in traffic. When you idle down when traveling the engine does not maintain stable idle – it does not die or miss it just pulses a little – never did figure it out or worry about it. The heat/air control knobs kept coming off - I think they are in the glove box. There is a 10 inch crack in the front window passenger side. It could use a front alignment. Drives straight but the tire wears on the front right. I have pics of the rust issues. This is not a rust cancer issue but typical places will need to be fixed. If I had covered storage I would not worry about the rust and just fix it when I could get to it. I seriously considered painting the vehicle before selling because the vehicle would be worth so much more. As it stands – someone will get a very good solid VW camper at a decent price. Again – I trusted this vehicle to get my daughter to Maine – and back. Some more recent work: Brake shoes all round Lube wheel bearings Flush-fill-bleed brake lines Window washer pump Mount spare New head lamps New front shocks Power steering pump. Thanks for looking – Extra thanks for bidding! On Nov-30-10 at 05:14:59 PST, seller added the following information: Watchers and bidders, I have just lowered the reserve from $2200 to $2000. That is a very very good deal on such a great camper! I would not hesitate to go camping two states away in this vehicle today! Thanks folks.
