When BMW introduced the M Roadster in 1997 the motoring press rightly hailed it as a classic. Morristown BMW got its first, this one, in early March 1998 and I bought it. Here it is, with the optional floor mats, wind deflector and trunk rack I got with it. Please note the VIN; this is a very early M3R. If not the first in NJ, real close. This car has been maintained by BMW and an excellent independent shop. It has had all routine maintenance, the oil and filter are changed early, repairs as needed. Everything works. The charcoal canister sensor very occasionally triggers the check engine light on. Since the car runs perfectly and passes emissions, the mechanic says it’s nothing to worry about. I drive the car every day and wouldn’t hesitate to drive it cross country. The service records are included. The car was carefully broken in and is driven moderately. Not over 3000 until the oil is warm, never lugged, beaten or tracked. Due to its superb mid range there is little need to exceed 4000 and I rarely do. The car has never been smoked in, has normal wear and a few dings. The only damage was a stone hit the windshield and bump in a parking lot. The new windshield is BMW and BMW’s recommended shop repaired the bump. After a year or so on the road the car received its only mods; a Shark EFI tuner, full Supersprint exhaust and K&N cold air intake. They optimize for 91 octane, increase power, crisp the car up and make it sound right when you crank it. The Shark, stock exhaust, air box, wind deflector and top cover (which never fit) are included. It runs fine on 89.
