Vehicle Detail
What you are looking at is a single family owned 1979 Volkswagen Westfalia pop-top full camper van that is in original condition except for an original color paint job it had a few years ago. This is the last year of this classic body style, in 1980 they switched to the vanagon body style. This was first purchased by my grandparents brand new and they enjoyed it with the family for years and then they gave it to my aunt who also enjoyed for years before she gave it to us. We really hate to let our Westy out of the family but for personal reasons its time to let it go. And now for some information on the condition of our Westy. The interior is all original and is actually still in pretty good shape. You can see some wear and tear on the upholstery (pictures included) but we wanted to keep it original inside so we never had it replaced. You can also see where some of the wood laminate has started to seperate on the edges from the wood, we just reglue it every so often and it looks fine. You should be able to see the condition of the material on the pop-top in the pictures, its original and it has started to wear a little bit ( a few small tears that i believe are repairable) where it folds when its closed up. A new canvas top can be purchased for just under $350 on Ebay, a friend of mine just replaced his that was all rotted out. The fiberglass top is in great shape except for a couple very small cracks in the back corner on the drivers side that you can also see in the pictures. There was some minor surface rust that pitted a little bit but didn't rust through so there are no holes in the back on the roof just above the lip where water sits when its parked. We sanded and treated it and then painted it with a matching color rust-oleum paint so it should be fine, as I said it didn't rust through to holes. The only other spot that I noticed any rust at all, again just very light surface rust is on the hinges for the rear engine hatch in the back. The rest of the body and under carriage are rust free and in excellent condition. As far as body damage you can see the front piece where the tire mounts is a little dented from the tire being pushed in on but when the tire is on there you cant notice it. I took pictures of it with and without the tire because i dont want to hide anything. Also the bumpers are not perfect but they do look good and they saved the body! Its never been in an actual accident but you know how it is when you park your car in parking lots, they're like magnets for being bumped! LOL Now for the running gear, its the original engine and 4 speed manual tranny that still runs and drives great. Its allways been maintained and has never let us down! The wheels and tires are in great shape as you can also see in the pictures. Everything in the camper is in great working condition and it runs great so it shouldn't be a problem for the winner to drive it home and have your first road trip in it. I have to say for as old as our VW is, everytime we drive it we get second looks, thumbs up and compliments for it all the time! It really is alot of fun to drive! I personally think whoever wins the auction on our Westy will be Very happy with it and should get to enjoy it and make a lot of happy memories with the family for years to come. I have included alot of pictures to try to show the condition as much as I could but I would be willing to take more pictures and email them upon request or would be even happier to show it to you in person if you make the drive out. You can call me on my cell at 209-642-3447 with any questions and the van can be seen at my home in Antioch, California. I require a $1,000.00 cash deposit through Paypal within 48 hours of auctions end and full payment within 7 days. This is a no reserve auction so the highest bidder will get it! Good Luck and Bid with Confidence!!
