Vehicle Detail
1980 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel Sedan VIN: 116120 12 017746 VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Ever driven one of these Mercedes with the powerful 3.0 liter Turbocharged Diesel engine? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too. Comfort, style, economy and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. I’ve always considered these W116 bodied cars constructed during the 70’s as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard many others say the same thing! Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a find this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only! “Time capsule” really is a great way to describe this car. The un-worn tan upholstery is clean and soft (no breakdown of the seat springs either). No dash cracks and exceptionally nice interior wood trim. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall exterior condition is superior. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Benz hates rust and you won’t find anything to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Climb over, under and all around this car - I know you’ll come up smiling!! Give it 4 or 5 seconds for the glow plugs to heat when starting cold and the peppy 3.0L inline five diesel engine starts every time! The automatic transmission shifts strongly and just as it should. Having personally owned more than twenty Benz models over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. I’m convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive it. As a respected Ebay seller with many, many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Benz runs and drives as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up on the car. NO used vehicle is perfect. Having said that, I won’t hesitate to drive this Mercedes cross-country today! CONDITION: In total, this is an exceptionally clean, well cared for, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing attention: All the glass is in great shape. The car idles, runs and drives out as I feel it should – strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull or alignment issues! The factory original color gold metallic paint is in great overall condition and still holds quite a shine. I find NO rust spots on the body or door panels. Absolutely superior chrome and exterior trim all around, too! The front fenders, doors, rear quarters and floor pans are all solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in great condition for a 30 year-old car! The factory wheels are straight and true. They’re wrapped with 205/70R14 radials with at least 80% life remaining. Take another good look at the interior shots. The upholstery is all-original with the pictures giving a very accurate view of its clean, solid, superb condition. Often, you’ll find worn springs and disintegrating cushion material on these cars. This is NOT the case here. Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these firm seats for hours. About the only flaw is a worn spot on the driver’s backrest that doesn’t warrant much attention for now, you’ll see it in the pics. The heater and A/C system work, but could use a refrigerant recharge. There’s no evidence of any water leakage on the perfect headliner. All the gauges and exterior lights are bright and true. The former owner switched out the original factory AM-FM Becker stereo for a nice Blaupunkt many years ago. It works great and the low-key appearance keeps the classic vibe in place. The jack, spare and tools are in the trunk. We’re always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day! I wouldn’t hesitate (and in fact, I encourage you) to drive home cross-country in this car! Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the Mercedes at our Kenmore, WA location and take it for a test drive. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, we reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of four or fewer purchases on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Finally, we reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to here before the end of the auction period. Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of Ebay rules and Federal Law)! Please feel free to contact me directly thru Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from www.U-ship.com. Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. As an alternative, you might also get a quote from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're Ebay's preferred transporter and have a link attached to the Ebay Motors home page that I suggest looking at (see link below). The zip code for pick-up would be 98028 to get an instant on-line quote from either source. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER I’m happy to assist by transporting your purchase to the nearest DAS terminal located in Lakewood, WA for an additional $100. DAS normally charges about $200.00 to pick up at our door. Make sure you inquire with your shipper about insurance coverage on the vehicles they transport. The vehicle can be stored free of charge at our location for up to two weeks after the auction ends. After that period storage is $20 per day. We are open for vehicle pickup 10 – 5 pm every day. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect the 9.8% sales tax, document, transfer and registration fees (this means that the ONLY thing we’ll collect from an out-of-state buyer is a $50 document fee). The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese? On Nov-08-10 at 21:56:05 PST, seller added the following information: I've gotten a couple of emails about the mileage reading as shown on the car. The odometer clearly reads 245,113 miles as shown in the photos, not 24,511. Once bidding starts, the seller can't change the listing other than to add a note like this. --Mark
