Vehicle Detail

Here I have for sale an all original 1967 MGB GT. That's right, original paint, wheels, etc...preserved for the past 43 years, not restored. This car has been in my family since 1985. At the time I had several MG's and this one was purchased from the second owner by my father. Upon his retirement and downsizing, I purchased the car from him, wanting to keep it in the family. We've only ever used the car on very limited local MG club events during the summer months and it probably has only had 5,000 miles or so put on it all these years. In late 80's I purchased a '63 roadster that had been in a bad accident, I wanted it as a parts car. I was interested in it because it had the early overdrive gearbox. I pulled the transmission and had it completely rebuilt, gear by gear by Matt at MG Only in Tacoma, WA. This was nearly a $3,000 upgrade! Keep in mind, in the 80's, parts such as early overdrive gearboxes just weren't available at all. If you wanted one, you had to find one and restore it. The factory original overdrive switch was installed on the dash as it should be and it works beautifully and really makes the car pleasant on the freeway. The good.... and the items that need a little TLC.... This car is COMPLETELY original, including the paint, so what you see is 100% original, with no bad restoration work hiding shoddy work. The spare tire is still the original Dunlop Gold Seal as it came from England in '67 and has never been used. The ONLY non original parts on this car are the modern Pirelli radial tires, the headliner, which has been replaced with factory original, and the interior carpets. The black leather seats with white piping are the originals and are really in pretty sad shape. The rear seat is still perfect, but the front two need replacement with original leather skins. The dash and door panels are also all original and nearly perfect. This car also has the original AM/FM radio but it no longer is producing any sound through the speaker...I don't know if it's the speaker that needs replacement or the the radio restored. All the lights work, turn signal etc. The drivers side window winding mechanism broke on me last year as I was attempting to roll the window up. I felt the gear inside strip, so this is going to require a new internal mechanism. Fortunately the window is 90% up at this point....and I never have driver her in rainy weather anyway. The engine and all other internal components are original and work great. Last year I pulled the radiator off and had the radiator shroud sand blasted and repainted. The radiator was rebuilt (3 core) by a specialist in Olympia that told me "this thing will cool a Chevy 350 now". I installed a new solid brass / chrome grill. I also pulled the fan and pulley and had them sand blasted and powder coated the factory original yellow. I ordered all the original nuts, bolts and rubber gaskets from Moss to put it all back together. While all those parts were off I also pulled the thermostat and replaced with original. All radiator hoses and clamps were replaced with brand new OEM type. I replaced the oil cooler with a brand new one, as well as all the oil lines and gaskets, also brand new Moss parts. And to make oil changes more practical, I pulled the original "upside down" oil canister and fitted a Moss spin on oil filter. I still have the original spin on oil filter and parts so if you wanted to restore back to 100% original, you can. I also have the original 4 speed transmission. British car folks I think have learned through the years to never throw out original parts and I subscribe to that philosophy! The speedo has always been "iffy", bouncing up and down as the car drove along, and as of last summer it quit all-together. The tach also has given up the ghost after 43 years. The oil pressure, gas and temp gauges work as they should including all the interior lights. The interior fan / heater works great also. The body-work is 99% perfect, and of course original, with exception of a small ding in the driver's side front fender (picture shown here). As for rust, the car is 99% rust free also. Even the boot (spare tire well) is free of rust (pictures shown here). There is some small bubbling in the lower passenger side front fender that has always been there and never gotten any worse since we've owned this car. Probably helped due to always keeping her garaged and never driven in the rain etc. Everything else under the car is solid and rust free. I've owned many many British cars including countless number of MG's, Triumphs, Sunbeams, Austin Healys and I have to say, this is the best driving little car I've ever had. I have to assume this is due to the fact that it's never been screwed up by amateur restorations or others thinking they were "fixing it up". It drives wonderfully, and handles like an old British sports car should with its big "tractor" like steering wheel. This past summer I had to replace the batteries with brand new as the others were dead due to sitting around for the past year or so, and I also had to replace the fuel pump. After sitting for nearly 5 years, she fired right up as she always has. Some cars have a spirit about them that let you know that they're good and this is one of them. She's never let me down, and has always been a reliable, tough little car, but due to recently having gone through a divorce and needing to down-size, I'm reluctantly parting with her. She needs to go to another loving home that will appreciate an original '67 MG, and I would hope, would continue to "preserve" her rather than "restore" her. I for one, am always so much more impressed with original patina and 43 years of a few nicks and scratches than I am looking at an over-restored "new" car. Feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions.
