Vehicle Detail

~~oo00oo~~ Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II 1979 A beautiful original example! Here is a really fine and original presenting example of a Silver Shadow II. Finished in Masons black over Tudor grey with deep burgundy fine lines to the waist-rails. The interior has handsome burgundy Connolly hides with black piping and matching Wilton carpets. The same burgundy and black piping theme carries through to the boot. This is an unmolested example that has been meticulously maintained and presents in excellent condition. It is primarily all original with no feature modifications - right down to the original Blaupunkt push button radio and separate factory fitted Clarion cassette player. This was a west-coast car all its life so it is a “dry” car that has had a garaged environment. As a result, it has been freed from the perils of harsh weather and is very clean underneath. It has always been well maintained and serviced by Rolls-Royce professionals and comes with its original manual. The Silver Shadow II presented here has been recently fully Rolls-Royce work-shop inspected with all work needed carried out*. Important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes have been fully inspected and serviced as required. This included checking of all brake hoses and the system pressure tested and bled. It is ready to drive and enjoy. The odometer shows a low 75,700 miles and although this is not verifiable, the mileage is commensurate with the condition (particularly when you look at the condition of the leather, carpets, brake pedal etc). It is very quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model. The interior looks close to perfect. The burgundy leather is in absolutely outstanding original condition with no cracks, tears nor fading and very supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics. The leather really has been lovingly preserved - any lines or creases you see in the photos are the natural creases in the Connolly hide which, for some reason seem, to be exaggerated in the photos. It is an interesting story to side-note that when the Silver Shadow II was new, in England the burgundy was often affectionately called "House of Lords red" as it was very much like the leather Connolly supplied to upholster all the seating in the English parliament "House of Lords". It is further interesting to note that the green leather also offered in the Silver Shadow series soon lost popularity as that was akin to the colour in the "House of Commons" and, as the name might suggest to some, it is a lower house in the English parliamentary system. The Italian burr walnut wood throughout the car is simply stunning. All the dash, door cappings and vanity mirrors were recently redone to “factory standard” by leading wood re-finisher; JC Wood French Polishers at a cost of some $3,000. It was only redone because of a number of seatbelt chips in the 2 front door woods which detracted from the overall high standard of the interior. When redoing wood on a Rolls-Royce, it is important that it is all done "as a set" so as to maintain uniformity. The process was done in accordance with the Rolls-Royce "multi-layer lacquering technique" which involves painstaking wet sanding and buffing by hand between all coats. The new final finish on the wood throughout is virtually flawless. The head lining is the original broad cloth wool and in good condition. The original burgundy Wilton wool carpets with black leather binding are in fantastic condition. Likewise are the leather finishes to the dash and top-roll. The boot (trunk) carpet with the same burgundy and black binding theme is also in very good condition. The body on this Shadow II is very straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The car was repainted some 5 years ago and was a high quality $10,000+ job. The finish is entirely consistent. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. The paint presents beautifully with only the most minor little mark here and there from minimal use and entirely consistent with a low-mileage 5 year old paint job. Certainly, it needs nothing other than a wax from time to time. It is beautiful. The white-wall tyres are literally brand new (100% tread and still sporting the “knobblies” of a new tyre) and the hubcaps are excellent with no noticeable major imperfections in the stainless or painted trim rings. All remaining bright-work is in good condition as is glass, electrics and instruments. All electrics have been checked right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light. Under the bonnet, the presentation is amazing. It has not been precision detailed but simply kept clean and tidy throughout its life - the marque of a well maintained Rolls-Royce. You must take the time to look at the photos of the engine bay as its presentation is like that of only a 5 year old example. Very clean and simply stunning! The car has its original jack, correct tools and operating manual as you would expect. The car is of very high standard and is an easy 9 out of 10 rating. It is without doubt; "as good as you will get". ~~ This stately Shadow II is an excellent condition representation of the marque that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. It makes for an excellent driver for either everyday driving or sunny weekend enjoyment. You could even take her to your next Rolls-Royce meet and it will attract attention with pride! ~~ ~~oo00oo~~ For many extra photos on this fine example go to the link below: Click HERE to see some 200 high resolution photos (If you have high speed internet, I recommend you use the “slide-show” feature for good resolution display.) ~~oo00oo~~ Stunning original burgundy ("House of Lords red") Connolly hides. Click HERE to see some 200 high resolution photos ~~oo00oo~~ This Rolls-Royce is part of my private collection. I am not a broker or retail car dealer; I am a professional car collector of some 25 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I take a lot of pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid of make an offer. You are bidding and/or making offers to buy WITHOUT conditions. A $2000.00 deposit (non-refundable) will be required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance unless you are willing to meet the cost of transfer fees. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. If all the funds are not received as indicated above, I reserve the right the keep the deposit and resell the vehicle by re-listing or to another bidder. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost. As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make every effort to bring my cars to a very high standard but the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it is not always possible to attend to every single item, or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked an item. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 31 years old. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition: The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, unforeseen imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. Being a classic car in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, the mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any additional costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days from auction end, a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction end. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-31 year old vehicle, and while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country”. At least, I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars from where I bought them to my home. PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS, DO NOT BID. ~~oo00oo~~ *Please note: I am a professional collector and experienced restorer and I have my own mechanical workshop with qualified craftsmen on hand. As a passionate collector of the marque I take great pride and pleasure in passing on any of my cars to its next owner (“caretaker”). In so doing, once this Rolls-Royce is sold, I will put the car back thru my workshop to ensure that it is mechanically sound and all major features and functions are operating as described. This will be performed after the sale and before delivery – at NO CHARGE. Who else selling a Rolls-Royce on eBay does this?! This provides the buyer the peace of mind to purchase with complete confidence. Interesting information on the Silver Shadow II series The “II” mark provided considerable improvements and various design enhancements over the earlier Silver Shadow. In 1977, the model was renamed the Silver Shadow II in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering, modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly, a dual exhaust along with the first-to-market fully automatic dual system air-conditioning system and a modernised and improved dash lay-out. The model represents the pinnacle in design features for the Silver Shadow series that started production in 1966.
