Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1965 Ford Mustang Immaculate Convertible 289 4bbl Automatic This car…is pristine. A stunner from 100 yards. · Pristine black car with white convertible top. · Gorgeous black interior · 289 4 bbl / Automatic · Dual exhaust w chrome trumpet exhaust · Total off frame rotisserie restoration complete in 1995 · Less than 500 miles on vehicles since restoration A ton more info if youre interested… read on. This car is my baby. Here’s a little history. Car was originally sold by a dealer in Xenia Ohio to the first owner. My dad bought the car in 1981 – he was the third owner. I drove her in high school but mostly she has slept in my parents garage through the 80’s while I went to college and started a family. By 1994 I had saved some money and committed to a full tear down and rebuild of the entire car with the goal of coming out with a brand new – nearly perfect – bad to the bone mustang. At least as bad as you could get with 2 restrictions… I wanted her within factory specs and options only and within budget – the second goal I totally blew. Oh well – shes worth it. Project Management: The car went to Karl Pendley - Mr. Mustang in Trotwood Ohio to manage and complete the whole project. Karl was the foremost Mustang master here in the Midwest all through the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. Sadly he passed a few years ago. Tear Down and Frame Work: Upon delivery to Karl the car went into immediate open heart surgery mode which is where you begin a full rotisserie restoration – right down to the nuts and bolts. In the Tear Down stage the car was completely dismantled – every thing tagged and stored. The chassis was then sent off to a special clinic where it was sand blasted using a new technique at the time with sodium bi-carbonate. Yes – that’s baking soda. The point of baking soda was to remove any rust and all paint without damaging the steel chassis. The bare steel car was then dipped and sent back to Mr Mustang. Mean while – the engine was sent off to Performance Clinic of Dayton for a complete rebuild. Performance clinic still does the maintenance on the car now. When I saw the car again a month or so later it was framed up on a rotisserie contraption so the entire chassis could be spun at its horizontal axis. A temp inner frame was welded inside the car and every ounce of rust or imprecision not addressed by the sand blasting was cut out and rebuilt. There is no filler in this cheri – she was welded back perfect. Frame – undercarriage – dog house – cowl – trunk – floor pans – all welded perfect to factory specs and laser aligned. Then it was rebuild time. Primed and painted in 8 different stages. Drive train back in place – back on new steel wheels and rubber. This is where it really got expensive. Whew. The completely rebuilt 1965 289 4 bbl engine was set. Transmission – went to a 9 inch differential – I upgraded to to dual exhaust with trumpets. Holly 4 bbl carb. And it was then time to pick a color… Now the car was originally a light metallic blue. But what I wanted was Raven Black. So Black it was - much to the chagrin of Karl Pendley and Rex Zimmerman the body tech. You see Black has to be perfect because it creates a perfect mirror and shows every flaw – which I knew. And that’s exactly the way it went. Every visible panel from the hood to the trunk lid – replaced with ford panels and painted mirror Raven Black. The look of this car in perfect black was – and remains - amazing. To be clear – the VIN number matches the specs of the car with the exception of the color code. Pendley was quick to point out that if I didn’t go with the original color at least I picked Black which is good for 2 big reasons. 1 the restoration has to be nearly perfect or the flaws will show – and 2 black is the best primer should someone want to take the car back to the original color. So the car was completely finished except for the interior and convertible top when it left Trotwood Ohio in 1994. It went from there to Arnetts Upholstery in Dayton – a professional upholstery company in business over 50 years for carpet, upholstery, interior trim. I went with original standard black interior – to me the pony interior is gaudy and I was doing all this for me and my family. I suppose you could convert the interior to Pony but it was not that way origibnally and this classic original look is killer. Oh - the white convertible top was finished by Luckys in Dayton and remains in great shape. So the car finished immaculate. And the 289 4bbl auto absolutely flies – albeit infrequently. You see I have less than 500 miles of road travel on the restoration. Shes a rock star – a show piece – a stunner - and a maybe a parade vehicle. And shes never seen rain or an overnight outside. By the way I don’t recommend vintage cars for either every day road use or for trips because in 1965 there weren’t good safety features. In fact I had to add rear seat belts for my kids because they were not even an option in 1965. No air bags or ABS either. So please don’t buy this for your teen – bad idea – put them in something with all the safety gizmos please. And so ya know… here are some great memories I have with this car… My Dad who passed in 1985 gave me this car when I was 17I took my ex-wife to my high school prom in this carYears of priceless memories in high school and college going and playing in this classic mustang with my brothers and friendsFull restoration in 1994 cost me nearly $30k. Ouch.My father-in-law and I had a blast tweaking her and detailing her over the years.Oh and I drove my nephew as the home coming king in the local parade in this car.A number of great trips to the Ohio All Ford Picnic and countless excursions to the dairy queen and other little family outings.A number of local parades and local shows. My oldest son last year took his high school sweetie to the prom in this same car. Yep – Dad was nervous but they were all fine. And my youngest son has had it out a couple of times too. But its time to pass Baby on to a new family. Job changes, college goals, travel and changes in direction – well its just time. The car as you can see is amazing and I know every inch of her and will here point out a few character flaws / beauty marks. The original horns (beep beep) are in the car and they don’t work. The original horn ring on the steering wheel has some flaws in the chrome and I would replace that. I removed an aftermarket stereo and recommend an original 1965 AM radio – prob buy one here on eBay. There is a lil damage to the dash where the aftermarket stereo went in… There is a subtle dimple sort of visible in the hood – there is zero damage to the paint but because the car is black you can see it. The convertible top is solid but its tight and should probably be adjusted. The left rear turn signal is temperamental – its in the rear housing unit itself – I should probably should just pull it and replace the wiring. I think a cover for the spare tire in the trunk would look cool even tho the spare rim is an original 1965 steel wheel. And I also wanted to put white stripes on it but never did – I always thought thatd be hot. But you could stripe her - or not anyway you wish. As I say – Im a perfectionist and so there are minor little things. You see even though it feels all new again – its still a 1965 car restored in 1994. And if you are familiar with vintage classics then you know they need love. Attention. So while she is a stunner you need to love her. Ive looked at other cars on here and Im not sure why the sellers dont disclose the character flaws – all vintage cars have them unless it’s a concours certified unit. At least here you know exactly the few things needin attention. And I will tell you – the car overall is pristine. Its basically a time machine. The University of Dayton said she just “sick” and once called “the baddest car Ive ever seen. Ever.” That’s the way it goes with this car. She turns every head within eyeshot – that I will guarantee. And everyone without exception has a mustang story which she will bring out. So this you will love this about her. Well what I have is the clear title. What I need is cleared certified funds. Ive never sold a car on eBay so if you know how to ship one lemme know what youre thinking. AS IS - NO WARRANTY Heres some legal disclaimer I found and was told to use.
