Shelby's 428 Cobra Jet-powered ..King of the Road.. cars are the stuff of lore, and with a half-year run, rare. Fast forward 40 years: Shelby's back in the Ford fold, and it only made sense to create a new model on the GT500 worthy of the moniker. One of only 1000 built in 2008, and one of only 107 in Torch Red with Silver stripes this rare, 1200 mile example is as cool as it is collectible. And yes...it's very, very quick! Inside and out this is a nearly new car. The paint shines brilliantly with nothing more than a half dozen tiny stone chips from new. The carbon fiber splitter, mirrors and hood are perfect. The wheels are mint, as are the original tires--this wasn't beaten relentlessly. The original owner is old enough to know the value of this collectible! The original Shelby floor mats are in the trunk, unused, keeping the Shaker 1000 subwoofer company. The interior is a 9.9 out of 10, with the deduction for the wrinkles in the driver's seat leather. From the carpet to the headliner there are no other wear marks anywhere. It even smells new inside. Power is everywhere, at any RPM. 540 Horsepower is tough to put down in first gear, but from second on you're strapped to a lit rocket. The air intake allows for the supercharger's growl, while the exhaust's best feature is the rat-tat-tat popping on deceleration. Together the KR feels many, many times more engaging than the standard GT500. The shifter is perfect, with notchy action and unbelievably short throws. If you're just cruising, there are plenty of toys to play with. Turn up that 1000 watt stereo and you can barely hear yourself at a yell. Pop through the multicolored footwell lighting for fun, and pick your dash color in MyColor. Cruise controls sit on the leather wrapped steering wheel, which is as adjustable as the power seat.
