Vehicle Detail
Hello, let me start by saying that I realize how stressful it can be to buy anything sight un-seen. I don't think a paragraph & 1 or 2 pictures is enough to accurately describe an item of any kind, let alone a classic motor vehicle. I understand that you may be in a different state or even a different Country & therefore are unable to come view this Chevrolet in person & I want you to know everything I know about anything I offer for sale. For that reason, my postings tend to be a little on the long side. I also post 24 super sized pictures. Please take the time to read the item description & view the pictures. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. All will be answered promptly. I have sold classic cars & trucks to buyers all over the world. I have a full 5 star for item as described & for communication. I also have a 100% positive feedback rating overall. Everyone seems to be very happy with what they buy from me. I'm sure you will be also. DESCRIPTION- If you have ever wanted to build a double nickel, this is a good starting point. This is a REAL Bel-Air 55 Chevy two door sedan, complete with VIN plate & matching cowl tag. Though it needs a lot of work, this car has not been cut on, has not been filled up with Bondo, has no patch panels & no signs of prior damage repair. This is a life long Southern car so there is NO salt damage. Though there is rust in some of the sheet metal skin... the car is structurally as solid as they come. This Chevy has not been pieced together. All of the fenders, doors, hood, trunk lid etc... are original to this 55. The body is very straight & all of the panels line up properly. The frame is clean, straight & solid. There IS some common 55 rust here & there... some in the floor pans, some in the rockers, a small amount in the lower quarters, just in front of the rear tires, a little in the lower corners of the front fenders & some in the trunk pan. All of this is common in unrestored 55's & all is easy to fix. The good thing about this car is what is not common on tri-five bodies. Like the lack of Bondo. Or the fact that no one has welded or riveted any sheet metal anywhere. This car did NOT come out of a field somewhere. In 1978 this 55 was parked under a pole barn in a little town just North of me called Comer GA. At that time the owner was planning to turn the car into a street racer so he pulled the motor & transmission, sanded the car down, installed a set of hood pins, mounted a set of Fenton Mag wheels & painted the car Lime Green. He told me he intended on replacing the 265 with a Big Block 454 backed by a 4 speed Muncie but got married & started a family instead. So this Chevy just sat. In the late 90's he decided to start restoring the car back to original & sanded most of the green paint off. Then he lost interest again & it remained under that pole barn for another decade until I was able to buy it about 4 years ago. I brought the car back to my shop & gave it a good coat of high quality primer in order to stop any surface rust that was there & preserve the body until restoration could begin. I have recently bought a building lot on a local lake which is taking all of my time & money. I have realized that I am not going to be able to do anything with this car for quite some time so I have decided to list it here with NO RESERVE! Just because I can't build it doesn't mean is shouldn't be built! There is rust but this body is much easier to repair than most because there is good, clean, sheet metal to weld to around the areas that need to be patched. The areas of the body which are difficult to repair on 55's are exceptionally nice on this car. For example, there is NO rust in the roof skin. NO rust in the drip rails. NO rust around the rear glass or side glasses. NO rust in the door jams. Neither on the hinge pillars or the striker posts. The doors themselves are fixable but need work. There is NO rust in the wiper cowl. NO rust in the headlight eyebrows (very rare). NO rust or cuts in the firewall. NO rust on the trunk weather stripping lip. The trunk lid is the best I have seen in many years! NO rust in the hood. NO rust in the package tray. NO rust in the rear seat pan. NO rust on the dash. (what looks like rust holes in the pictures is simply old spray paint flaking off). All of these areas are prone to rust on 55 Chevys & are both time consuming & expensive to repair. It is very hard to find an unrestored car as solid as this one these days. It may look rusty in the pictures but keep in mind... the location of the rusted areas make them easy to fix. There are countless companies who supply replacement metal of all of the rusted areas on this body. The cost is minimal. All that is needed is for someone to cut out the old & weld in the new. Before you know it you will have a completely rust free, all metal, 1955 Chevy! Please remember, what you see is truly what you get with this car. There are no patches or fiberglass hiding anything. I would much rather buy a car that looks like this than to buy a car that looks rust free in the pictures, only to find out later that there are hundreds of hours & thousands of dollars worth of difficult repairs waiting to be done under a shiny coat of paint. With this car you can be sure of what is solid & what needs repair. MISC.. There is NO interior, motor or transmission. There are surely some trim pieces missing but as you can see... I have lots of parts stored in my shed which ARE included with this auction. I have a set of workable bumpers, a set of rust free front inner fenders, a very nice front gravel pan, a good grille, several light bezels, several polished trim pieces & even some brand new door glass weather stripping. Plus a hood bird or two. Still in the dash you will find a very nice instrument cluster, ash tray, glove box lid & Bel-Air clock. Not pictured but included is a very nice rear windshield. All spare parts will be securely packed inside the car for transport. This 55 rolls & steers well. I will install a set of wheels & tires for transport but the 17 inch Torque Thrust II's pictured are NOT included. * This is a TRUE auction! * NO RESERVE! * Low starting bid! * You set the price! * Bid what you think the car is worth to you! * If you are the high bidder at the end... YOU WIN! TITLE- Georgia is a non-title state for vehicles older than 1986 & didn't even start issuing titles for new cars at all until 1961. That means that when this 55 Chevy was sold brand new, it was sold with no title. Therefore this Chevrolet is exempt from title here & has no title. However, if you live in a state which requires a vehicle of this year to be titled, I WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH THE PAPERWORK YOU NEED TO GET YOUR TITLE QUICKLY & EASILY. This means the winning bidder will get a T-7 bill of sale, a state VIN inspection certificate, a gray GA registration card & an official letter from the state of GA confirming that this vehicle is exempt from title in this state. This paperwork will allow you to register the vehicle if you live in a non-title state such as Georgia. This paperwork will also automatically transfer into an actual title if you live in a state which requires a title on a vehicle of this year. I know some of you may be thinking that your tag office is hard to deal with & they just will not issue you a title if you don't have a title from the seller. I understand your hesitation but please believe me when I tell you... they have absolutely no choice but to issue you a title on this vehicle. Every County in every State is governed by the rules of the United States Department Of Transportation. The law says that if a vehicle is brought from a non-title state into a title requiring state & there is valid paperwork from the non-title state... the title requiring state MUST issue a clean clear title for that vehicle in the new state. It's the law & no matter how hard to deal with your tag office may be, they WILL issue you a title. There are several states which don't require titles on older vehicles. If there wasn't a unified law to cover these vehicles nationwide, people who moved from a non-title state to a new state may very well find that their very valuable classic automobiles couldn't be tagged in the their new home state. That would be absurd. I have sold classic vehicles to buyers all over the USA including Hawaii, several to Canada, a few to the UK, several to the Netherlands, one to Iceland, one to Spain & even a few to Australia. No one has had any trouble obtaining their title. You won't either. It is as easy as renewing your car tag. BIDDING- Please only bid what you are prepared to pay for this very rare Chevy. Anyone wishing to inspect the car or have the car inspected is welcome to do so, but inspections must be completed prior to bidding & prior to auction's end. If you have little or no feedback please do not bid without first sending me your contact info through the ASK SELLER A QUESTION link in this listing so that we can speak on the phone prior to you placing your bid. I have encountered a couple of crooks/ scammers here on eBay who have cost me both time & money. This will no longer be tolerated so if you are not a SERIOUS buyer, PLEASE MOVE ON. All members with a genuine interest in this car are more than welcome to ask questions. All will be answered promptly. If you look at my feedback comments you will see that all of the REAL buyers have been very happy after dealing with me. Many of the comments are from people who have been very happy with classic cars, street rods, motorcycles & diesel trucks they have bought from me. I have sold to satisfied buyers all over the world! I know you will love this car. SHIPPING- Shipping costs & arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. However, I have assisted buyers & their shippers in the pickup of several vehicles over the years. I can recommend several shippers who have performed well for buyers in the past or you can simply click on the link found right under the price in the upper section of this listing. The link will say (vehicle shipping quote available). If you click on that link eBay will automatically give you quotes from 3 or 4 reputable automobile shippers. These quotes are generally very reasonable. I can work with them on pick-up times etc.. but you will have to make your own arrangements with them. I will work with you & your shipper so that they can get this car to you as fast & cost effectively as possible. However, no matter where you live,or how you choose to pay, the point of sell will be here in GEORGIA as that is where I live & where the vehicle is located. As always, you are more than welcome to pick this car up in person. I will be happy to pick you up at the Atlanta Airport or local Amtrac station, free of charge, if you would like to rent a U-Haul truck & trailer to haul the 55 with then simply turn the U-Haul in at your local dealer when you get home. I had plans of turning this Chevy into a Two Lane Blacktop clone. I love the old gassers / street racers & it just doesn't get any better than a 55 Chevy 2-door sedan! But no matter if you want to build an old school rod like me, or a pro touring 55, or pro street 55, or a rat rod 55, or maybe a factory correct restoration, or even a half million dollar resto mod, one thing is always true... you have to have a 1955 Chevrolet to start with! As solid, straight & untouched as this car is, you couldn't ask for a better place to start. Thanks for your interest in my 55. I hope you win!
