SquareTrade © AP6.0 Timeless is what this 1959 VW Classic Beetle is. The family that has owned this from the car's beginning have instilled a respect for the modern machine as well as the community. My dearest of friend's is also our family lawyer. In today's world one should have a family Lawyer. Just like the Family Doctor, the family attorney responds to the many legal demands placed upon most American Families. John has been "down" for the Ross family for a generation and more. It is my turn to do what I do best and that is to convey a families icon of motoring: The McCoy's 59 VW Bug. I had of course heard of the bug's existence but never laid eyes upon the beetle until recently. I was asked to help with pulling the car out of it's protective womb-like garage and "getting her running". John thought that it had been maybe 4 or 6 years since last driven and so I went to see for myself. I have included photos that i have taken throughout the process of waking the wondrous Volkswagen. As it turns out the tags on the VW were last issued 1984...that's more like 26 years since last driven!! Garaged the entire time. I will be forever in awe of the simple things we have invented for ourselves and actually remain through all of our turmoil.. After some minor prep work the Beetle was running smoothly and ready to go get some groceries. Gas was beyond varnish and more like a resin - honey type syrup. Still had the all too familiar 'old gas' smell that sticks inside your nostrils for a day or two after being exposed. The tank was still serviceable as was the fuel pump and carb. The valve on the fuel tank for the reserve needs servicing, it leaks so for know I simply ran rubber fuel line with a hose clamp ,,,,,,,,,,,` I rebuilt the Master Brake cylinder and will do the same for the wheel cylinders before auction end. The 6 voly battery accepts a charge but it is weak and I have not determined how long it will hold a charge. I suggest replacement. The VeeDub was purchased new by Melva_____ . Given to Laurie, John's sweetheart of 40+ years, sometime in the early 60's. Their daughter drove the car to California to attend Cal-Tech in the late 70's...... THIS IS AN ALL ORIGINAL, UNMOLESTED 1959 VOLKSWAGEN CLASSIC-BEETLE Under 100,000 miles garaged the last 26 years. Retains original 6 volt electrical system. Original transmission and engine. Most of the upholstery was redone in the early 80's. One partial repaint done to match existing color (still has significant shine), All chrome trim parts are intact and will clean-up fine. Missing is one hub cap, trunk lock/handle and no spare tire. Original radio has been replaced with a 12 volt radio using a converter but the original MOTOROLA is in the trunk. The driver's door at one point was replaced with a door that has a push-button handle. An extra door with hardware is included that matches the car except for paint. I will be adding more pics as we clean her up. We reserve the right to end the auction early. Local advertising is having better results than I had expected. FOB Salt Lake City. I will gladly assist with transportation/shipping quotes and scheduling. . The wining bidder has 48 hours after the close of auction to post a Paypal deposit (10% should suffice) the balance is due on mutual satisfaction of documentation etc.... GOOD LUCK!! On Oct-04-10 at 02:21:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I will have more of the requested photos later today. I drove up to where the car is garaged to take the pics and my battery was dead on the camera. I did add some photos that I already had. I noticed that the VW emblem on the front hood is missing as well as the front trunk handle. Also there is no spare tire or lug wrench. On the plus side I could not find a dent anywhere on the body. It has not been washed in twenty years and I am still thinking to leave it for the new owner. But there is very little , if any, oxidation of the paint. With very little effort she will shine again! On Oct-04-10 at 15:28:53 PDT, seller added the following information: I noticed an error in the original description above: The statement "Under 100,000 miles garaged the last 26 years." should read "Just over 100,000 miles garaged the last 26 years..." The actual working odometer reads 23923. It has turned over just once therefore the actual mileage is 123,923 (documentation verifying this is included with the car and available upon request.)
