Vehicle Detail
1973 Volvo P1800 ES Sport Wagon Low 59,000 Original Miles One-family owned VIN: 1836364-003248 OK, I’ll be the first to admit I’m the worst kind of “Volvo-file”. I’ve owned just about every model ever made and regret selling any of them! Way back in the summer of 1975, as newlyweds, we acquired our first two-door ‘67 122S from an older sister and were completely hooked! Selling that car has ALWAYS felt like a big mistake and I know the same feeling is gonna well up in me when this very sharp P1800 ES is loaded on a transporter or the lucky new owner flies here to Seattle and does a fun fall road trip home! I first drove this car when it was only six months old. My wife’s Uncle Jack had just traded-in his ’65 Porsche for it - I’d begged him to sell me that classic 356 Coupe, but it was way more than a nineteen-year-olds budget could afford even back then! I remember him coming to Thanksgiving dinner in this new Volvo and then at just about every family holiday or reunion we’ve both been to since, I’ve asked him to please chat with me FIRST if the Sport Wagon was ever going to leave his stable. That day came a couple months back when Uncle Jack called and invited us out to the country to look at “the car”. Imagine our surprise when he rolled back the barn door and there sat TWO bright orange 1973 P1800 ES wagons! This 59,000 original mile automatic (the one with the roof rack) is just as I remembered it over the years, and I really began to drool after checking out the nearly identical four-speed with overdrive sitting next to his original. THEN THINGS GOT EVEN BETTER: Uncle Jack was also including a third, complete ’73 parts car to go with the package! So, here’s the deal: I’ve got both of these P1800’s listed separately here on Ebay, but really only want to sell one. The auction for stick shift car is starting and ending a day later than this one. I haven’t had time to go back up and trailer home the parts car yet. My feeling is it’s probably well worth doing right and maybe putting back on the road as well. Please feel free to call or email with questions or to discuss an offer before that auction ends. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. As a well-respected EBay seller with many, many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this car runs and drives as it should and that it is being properly represented to you! CONDITION: The photos really do tell the Volvo’s story. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only! The exterior has been re-done in the original factory orange because of paint fading. The chrome bumpers, trim and emblems are original to the car and are still bright and shiny. I’ve always liked Volvo’s classic GT racing wheels and these are straight and true with at least 75% rubber on the 205/70R15 radials. Try and find a set as nice as these with undamaged Volvo-unique trim rings! We’ve made no attempt to paint or update the remarkably clean engine compartment and the photos clearly show the giant rear hatch window and trunk area that made the style of these cars so unusual for their time. I’ll pass along the original Volvo Owners Manual, Dealer Directory and (very cool) Volvo Accessories Booklet you see in the pics, including the vinyl sleeve that still holds the salesman’s business card from the iconic, long-gone Bel-Kirk Motors Volvo here in nearby Kirkland, WA. It just seems right that the vintage 1973 tabbed Washington license plate should remain on the back as well. Because of the Volvo’s status as a classic car, it never needs to be renewed if you live in our state! Mechanically I feel this P1800’s in good shape. It starts from cold at about the first crank due to the very dependable electronic fuel injection system found in the '72-73 year cars. The Automatic Transmission doesn’t slip and shifts through all the gears properly. The glass is great all-around with NO cracks. About the only real negatives I can think to point out are the splits on the top of the dash caused by the sun and the dry, worn leather with loose seams on the front buckets. Replace or re-cover and the interior would be awesome! Having now sold several hundred vehicles here on Ebay and thousands more from our regular location, we’ve helped arrange long-distance shipping for many of our customers. I’m no longer surprised when folks from as far away as Alaska, Eastern Canada, Chicago, New York, California, Arizona, Texas and even the Mexican Baja fly in and drive their new purchase home. (I’m always happy to pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away). TERMS OF SALE: Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law) and we will NEVER, EVER solicit a “Second Chance Offer” from ANY Bidder! Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new eBay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If we don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. In fairness, reserves are held in confidence until after the end of the auction. Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback and also require an email or phone call from prospective bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions. If I don’t hear from you your bid may be canceled! You’re encouraged to inspect the Volvo so please contact me to arrange a test drive early to be sure you don't miss this one. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We accept PAYPAL for the deposit only because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within five days unless prior arrangements have been made. Remember, you’re bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later! You are more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. Non-paying bidders will be subject to legal action to recover lost monies. All costs of transport to the purchaser’s location are the responsibility of the purchaser. I’m more than happy to store the car in our warehouse for a few days after the sale and will always help coordinate pickup and loading with the transporter you choose. Additional Terms and Requirements: The Buyer will be responsible for his own Licensing Requirements in their state of residence. Washington State buyers will need to pay the required 9.9% sales tax, title preparation, transfer and registration fees. Because the Volvo is advertised and for sale locally, we reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online. Be advised that because this isn’t a new car it may have or could develop issues at any moment. Though I strive to give as accurate a description as possible, I can't guarantee that every physical defect or flaw has been discovered so the car is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Having said all of that, I know of no reason the Volvo couldn’t be driven long distance tomorrow! The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese? VEHICLE SHIPPING OR PICKUP: If you do decide to have the Volvo shipped home, we send vehicles up and down the West Coast regularly and can obtain a quote for you to most western states from one of our usual transporters. If you're in another part of the country, I’d suggest getting a quote from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) and also the U-Ship.com website. The zip code for pick-up would be 98032 (Kent, Washington) to get an instant on-line quote. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen is the responsibility of the BUYER.
