Vehicle Detail
OVER 1/3 OF A MILLION MILES AND STILL STRONG! This is one of the original, highly reliable Saturn S-series vehicles, and it has served me incredibly well over the years. I have decided to sell it now that I don't drive it much anymore because I prefer that someone else continue to get use out of this great little car rather than just letting it sit. To detail the history of the car: I bought the car in 2002 while in college in Boston, MA. The car wasn't in great shape -- the rear brakes were gone, front suspension worn, the engine was getting old, and the car was generally aging. I used it for the rest of the semester, then drove it home (to Texas). Over the summer, I use my summer income to rebuild the engine, put in a newer transmission (with higher gear ratios -- more detail below), I had the car painted, put in new shocks, brakes, tie rod ends (inner and outer), tires, wheels, and a few other updates. The car then served me loyally in my sophomore, junior, and senior years in high school. During that time, it served as my faithful transportation to and from Texas, as well as the car I (and my roommates) ran all our errands in. I graduated in 2005, got a job in Michigan (in the auto industry) and continued to use this SL2 for some time, but eventually bought a newer car, and decided to leave the SL2 in Texas with my parents, with the intention of keeping it "forever." Years later, however, I'm driving a 4-door family sedan, and just don't drive the car as often (between business trips and new home responsibilities, I've been making it back to Texas less and less now). Therefore, I've decided to put the car up for auction in the hopes that someone can continue to use it. It should be very clear - the car needs a bit of work since it's been sitting for a while. From my last trip to Texas: the car could use a new stereo (I tested the speakers, they're fine -- it's the head unit that's not working), the AC seems to be low on charge (worked last year), the fuel gauge doesn't work, and the rotors have some rust (from sitting -- they were relatively new when the car started "sitting" more often than being driven). The windshield is cracked (the picture shows it well), but most of the crack is out of the field of vision (behind the rearview mirror) -- one main crack across driver's field of vision. The headliner sags, but it's sewed on for now (quicker/cheaper than a new headliner). Some "quirks" and facts about the car or other things to note:- The trunklid has never closed well -- my "college' solution was to use hood pins to close it.- The cooling fan doesn't work on command (relay issue) -- it's activated by a switch to the right of the driver- The transmission is an SC1 transmission -- I moved to this to increase fuel economy (4th=1.032 and 5th=0.730 in the original transmission -- the SC1 trans I installed has a 4th gear ratio of 0.810 and 5th=0.605). This car gets about 35-38MPG on the highway! I can go on and on -- a lot of great memories with this car. Feel free to ask more detail. - American Racing wheels -- worth $250 alone!- Tires in great shape (pictures don't do them justice) -- were relatively new when I "parked" the car in Texas, still in great shape!- Interior very clean -- note that I put in my own cupholders in front of the shifter (not the neatest job ... I was in college ....)- Custom shifter and steering wheel. You're more than welcome to look at the car (I'll coordinate any visits with my Dad since I can't be there in person). This is a nice car and would make a student happy, but I can't offer a warranty, nor is it implied in any way -- it is sold as is. Any questions, email me! Thanks for looking!
