Vehicle Detail
I've decided to auction off my 1970 Mustang Coupe. This is a very original car, it was purchased new by a lady in Chicago who drove it only a few miles back and forth to work. She handed it down to her daughter (who is now in her 90's). I purchased the car from her as she was moving to Florida and couldn't take it with her. They kept excellent records of all work that was done to the car, receipts from oil changes, insurance, city parking receipts, quotes and receipts for mechanical and body work possibly done. It's hard to say what has been done and what was just quoted. I was told by the previous owner that the car was painted and the mileage was original, other than that, she didn't remember what else had been done. The car was parked for about 3 years before I purchased it and I've owned the car for 3 years and it's basically sat in my garage, I haven't had any time to drive it or enjoy it with recently having twins. I'll start with the negative things that I know of that will need attention. The car warms up and idles fine but it seems once it's been running and I drive it, it spits and sputters a bit and sometimes dies. I'm pretty sure this is just carburator tuning or engine needs timing as everything else in the fuel system has been replaced. I was told that it sounds like the choke is staying on or needs to be adjusted. I will try and have this fixed by the end of auction. The brakes seem sticky but I was told that's just because it hasn't been driven, once it's driven more, they will be fine. There is about a 12inch crease in the rear passanger side where the previous owner rubbed up against the garage door opening and a scrape along the rear wheel well (not rusting yet though) There is no door tag. That's about it that I know of and can tell by what I see. I'm by no means an expert but there's really not much that needs to be done to this car, it has always been driven and maintained as a daily driver by elderly women. Now some things to point out on the positive side (all items that have been replaced have been correct OEM replacement parts for this car). The 302 V8 engine is original, numbers matching, unmodified engine with 31,587 original miles. It runs strong and sounds great. I've replaced the distributor cap/rotor, gas tank (with new sending unit), fuel pump, and rebuilt the carburator. Judging by receipts I was given, the shocks, tires, radiator hoses, and muffler are newer replacements. The car has the original jack and spare tire in the trunk which is pretty uncommon. There are no rust spots on the body, the underside (floor pans, torque boxes, frame rails) are all solid and in great shape. The transmission shift firm. Steering feels tight. Interior is in absolutely excellent condition. No rips or tears in the seats or headliner, carpets are in excellent shape, very clean. There is an entire folder full of receipts, etc including some of the copies of paperwork from when the car was purchased. This is the perfect car for someone looking for a very original, unmodified Mustang that came from good owners. A tune-up from a mechanic and you can drive this car anywhere. Would also make a great starting point for a resto-mod or hot rod build. Just a note about the title, it does have a clear title, I'm just waiting to receive it in the mail, should be here by the time the auction ends. I had a lein against the car but that was recently paid off so I needed to get the title reprinted. Please send any questions you have and I will do my best to answer them as quickly and accurately as possible. I will be requiring a deposit via PayPal for $500 and the balance within 3 days of the end of auction so please have your finances in order before bidding. Reserve is set to $5000.00 Buyer will need to transport the car (or arrange transportation) from my location (Duluth, MN) within 1 month of the end of auction. On Sep-21-10 at 19:28:34 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I found out the engine not running smooth after it gets warmed up was due to the choke being set too rich and not letting air into the engine. Re-adjusted today and now the car runs great! Also, after driving it around a bit today, the brakes aren't sticking like they used to.
