Vehicle Detail

1968 Mustang 289 For your bidding pleasure is this 99% original 68 Ford Mustang. If you're looking for a classic mustang that will get noticed, and will only increase in value, here it is. I purchased this car a couple months ago from a local gentleman with the intention of resto-modding it. I had plans of dropping in a 3v or possibly a new 4v Coyote engine into it and turning it into a real hot rod. Iv'e looked the car over and now realize that there is too much that would need to be done to upgrade the platform to make it worth my while. As they say... my loss, your gain. I've done pretty much all the work on my own cars and I've looked this one over top to bottom and will give you my honest impressions good and bad. Also, I've looked at a slew of old cars including mustangs, and I will tell you without a doubt that every one has hidden surprises that pop up. I will try by best to make sure there will be no surprises and I hope that you appreciate the honesty. Features: -Original 289 V8 -HEI Ignition -2V Autolite Carburetor -In Dash DVD player with screen -3 Speed Automatic -2.79 Conventional rear end -Coil over shock front suspension -Remote control mirrors -Build date: July 18, 1968 My impressions: There will be no particular order here, just my impressions as they come to mind so bear with me. I've seen quite a few classic mustangs and if they are less than $5000, they need substantial undercarriage repair. I made sure when buying it that I checked out the floor pans and the "frame rails" and they are all solid. Very solid, and I can't really see where any real work has been done underneath except for a couple small patches but they could even be factory. I did notice a large non structural patch in the trunk, but it's solid and concealed under the plaid mat. The bodywork itself looks very good. I would give it an 8/10. I think that it's a basecoat-clearcoat finish. I noticed small bubbling above the drivers door, and a few touch up marks, nothing major. It looks great as it is, not something you will need to have painted soon. Best upgrade to make for the exterior would be a set of wheels. The original exterior color was Tahoe Turquoise and I'm glad they changed it. The drivers side mirror either needs to be replaced or repaired since it won't hold its position. The remote adjuster does work though. The interior is pretty good, overall maybe a 7 out of 10. The horn lights, turn signals, wipers all work. I noticed it needs a bulb or a bulb wiggled as one backup light is out, and also I think it's the left front marker needs a wire. The wiring hasn't been gone through and it's definitely original. It could stand to be tidied up a bit. The left front headlight bucket either needs to be repaired or replaced since the bolt eyes are broken. I looked them up on ebay and they are like $60. Also, the shock tower covers will need to be replaced at some point (about $50 apiece). There is an area forward of the passenger control arm which will need to be repaired at some point with about a 3" x 4" patch welded in. It leaks about 4oz of oil per month of mostly sitting and running a couple times a week. I don't know what if any work has been done to the engine, but it starts well, runs without any smoke, has good power, and drives/stops well. It also looks pretty good. I think that someone put new brake lines on it recently as they are the green e-coated type. The previous owner assured me that the mileage is original and I would say I believe him. The seats are in good condition with no rips or tears. The chrome bumpers and trim is good. I have a very fair price in mind, so don't e-mail asking if I will sell it for 2 or 3k, because I wont. It's a nice mustang that only needs about $500 put into it. It's definitely a collectors item that will only increase in value. All of the expensive work has been done, or doesn't need to be done. Also remember that pretty much every classic car has some issue or another, but I've laid out everything I can think of and I'd like the new owner to be happy with the car, so please ask questions if you have them. Thanks
