Vehicle Detail
1973 fj45 crew cab landcruiser super rare! The Crew Cab version is the "holy grail" of Landcruiser lovers. I’ve done research on this particular body style and this is what I’ve found out. (Please email me with any information you have about the FJ45 Crew Cabs). The Crew Cab version was built and sold by special order through the Australian Government directly to the mining companies. These durable trucks were used in the harsh desert environment because of their ability to go through almost anything. Luckily the dryness of the desert preserved some of these Crew Cab FJ45s which were then sold by the mining companies when they eventually replaced them with new Landcruisers. In the later years Toyota sold a Crew Cab version in Brazil for a couple years but they are not exactly the same. There are also imitation examples of these trucks in the United States where people have spent ridiculous amounts of dollars and labor to stretch a FJ40 to create an imitation FJ45 Crew Cab. This Landcruiser that I have for sale is NOT a FJ40 that has been stretched, modified, created, cut, chopped, or fabricated but instead is an original stock FJ45 Landcruiser Crew Cab used in the mines and the VIN# identifies it as a FJ45. Original Crew Cab Landcruisers are rare in the rest of the world but are EXTRTEMELY rare here in the United States. According to what I’ve read on the internet there are less than TEN of these original version Crew Cab Landcruisers currently in the United States. If you have any interest in owning one of these FJ45 Landcruisers this will probably be your only opportunity considering they seldom if ever come on the market. Luckily they are still part of the FJ40/45/47 group of trucks so all the parts are easily found on such websites as Specter, CCOT or even at Napa. The truck is located in Sunny San Diego and since it was manufactured 1973 it is smog exempt in the state of California. The truck appears to be overall stock except that the drive train has been changed to what I believe to be a Ford 351C with an automatic transmission. I haven’t run any of the engine numbers and don’t know any of the history, details or miles on the engine. I have no problem with the buyer paying for a mechanical inspection. The engine runs strong with lots of V8 power. All the electrical and gauges work except the fuel gauge. It was recently repainted the original color, Dune Beige with a white top. Since it came from the desert and has a fiberglass roof the truck had very little rust when I purchased it. It is Right Hand Drive... which is completely legal in the US and is much easier to get used to than most people think. It still is a 37 year old truck and was built with the technology from that era so it is heavy, rides rough and is not easy to turn the big 33" tires with the manual steering. But it looks cool as hell, has plenty of power, will drive through a river, and I promise you that you will get stopped at every gas station, red light and parking lot and asked what kind of truck it is and where it came from! Comes with clear current CA title/registration/plates. If you or anyone you know might be seriously interested in this beautiful and very unique vehicle please contact me at: richardshep@hotmail.com Thanks RichOn Sep-17-10 at 23:42:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello... since Ive first placed this truck on Ebay Ive learned a lot about this unique truck. Thanks to all those who were helpful with all the informative links and information! As Ive already stated in the description above, this Landcruiser version was made specifically for the Australian Government to be used in the mines. The company who had the contract with the Australian government was called Arkana. You can Google "Arkana" or go to Ih8mud to read about the company and see other pictures of Landcruiser Crew Cabs. Also in Brazil in 1999 a Toyota Bandeirante Landcruiser Crew Cab was manufactured. You can also easily Google "Bandeirante Crew Cab" and see the pictures of the Brazilian Crew Cabs. The Brazilian "Bandeirante" Crew Cab model and Australian "Arkana" Crew Cab models are very similar but do have differences since they were built 15 years apart. Also as Ive stated above this truck is a true FJ45 not a stretched FJ40 and the VIN# proves that. From all the research Ive done over the years Ive only seen one of these Australian versions come on the market for sale in the US and and probably less than five ever come on the market in Australia. According to one Landcruiser link that was emailed to me the author claimed to have done extensive research (the post was like three years old) and he had only be able to find 4 and heard or another 3 in the US. I figured there to be a couple more out there plus mine so that is why I put the amount at 10 total. If anyone has other helpful information/pictures/links/etc on these trucks please contact me and I will include it in the description. Thanks Rich On Sep-20-10 at 23:00:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I just found an expired advertisement for another FJ45 Toyota Crew Cab. If interested please go to http://www.vintageoffroad.com/viewvehicle.cfm?id=566&sold=1 The Crew Cab in that ad is a very cool truck with a diesel engine but the selling price was $28900 which shows the value of these unique Landcruisers. For those who are interested... the Ebay reserve price that I placed on my truck is LESS THAN HALF of what that other truck sold for. My reserve price plus the expense of dropping in a brand new diesel would still cost you 10K LESS than what that other one sold for. I really enjoy researching these vehicles and thought interested buyers might want to see and compare another Crew Cab that sold here in the USA. If anyone knows of any other ads/information please contact me. Thanks RichOn Sep-21-10 at 19:19:58 PDT, seller added the following information: Ive been asked for my phone number a few times so Ive decided to just post it here. Please read the description BEFORE calling me. I enjoy talking about FJ45s but I dont like reiterating details that Ive already taken the time to explain in the Ebay listing. My phone number 8584838697. Also Ive been asked about shipping the truck. I have no problem with shipping the truck and will help in any way I can with the loading it here in San Diego. All shipping arrangements and payments must be sorted out by the buyer. I recommend getting a LOT of shipping quotes as shipping prices greatly vary in price. If you have a few weeks to wait for the delivery you can often find a trucker who has an empty return load who will do the delivery for half the price. I have no problem with a buyer paying a mechanic to inspect the truck and will help in any way possible. Also Ive been asked about the reserve price. Ive definitely set it low enough to sell this truck so throw on a bid if interested. Thanks Rich
