The 2.2 liter 16-valve four cylinder powerplant is chain driven, features Saturn's patented "lost foam" casting process, and has a counter rotating balance shaft for smooth, economical power delivery. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) keeps the engine at optimal RPM for power and frugal fuel mileage. Electric power steering with variable assist doesn't put a drain on the motor, further aiding already impressive MPG. The transmission diverts power to all four wheels when required, but will shift the majority of it's output to the front wheels at cruising speeds. As a result, the Vue is surefooted and stable on slippery surfaces, while exhibiting maximum efficiency when AWD traction isn't required. Because the VUE is built around a rigid steel space frame, it's exo-skeleton is comprised of a molded polymer. The outer body panels are unstressed, meaning the door panels and quarter panels are actually decorative skin covering the reinforced steel structure beneath. This space age polymer material is dent resistant, will not rust, and is inexpensive and easy to replace.
