We bought this 2006 New Beetle TDI for my wife in 2008. It was certified pre-owned by the dealer, had low mileage, and was in wonderful condition. My wife needed a car for her long commutes to work, and she fell in love with this cute little bug. The cherry-red exterior and tinted windows gave it a sporty look, the interior was surprisingly roomy, and the diesel engine was incredibly efficient. A few months after buying the car, my wife took a new job where she could walk to work, and the Beetle commuted no more. Instead, it became the car of choice for running errands in the city. It had the power to zip through traffic, was small enough to fit into any parking space with plenty of room to spare, and had room for whatever groceries or friends we needed to drive around. It was also our car of choice for road trips: the comfortable ride and mp3 jack made trips a breeze, and the 500+ mile range could get us to Los Angeles and back on a tank and a half of gas. However, as much as we love driving this car, its occasional use does not justify continuing to insure and provide parking for it in downtown San Francisco, so we're putting this car up for sale. In addition to the standard features, this car has tinted windows, sliding sunroof, heated seats (wonderful on those chilly mornings), leather interior, air bags (driver, passenger, and side), rubber floor mats (original cloth mats also provided), and premium sound system with CD player and mp3 jack. In our experience, the diesel engine reliably gets 40 mpg for our mix of city and highway driving. There are a few faint scuffs on the interior that I haven't had time to get to that will wipe off with a bit of leather cleaner and a cloth, but no other scratches, dings, rips, or other cosmetic damage. Non-smoking household, and we have not transported any pets. About six months ago, a connection on the alternator worked loose and drained the battery a few times. The connection was repaired, the battery replaced, and everything is working like new. The car just received its 30,000 mile maintenance at the dealer (September 8, 2010), and was returned with a clean bill of health: everything is working as expected and the brakes are virtually new (90% remaining). We are selling the car as-is. Still has the original manual and three sets of keys (two are the push-button remote entry, one is old-fashioned type). Volkswagen stopped selling the New Beetle TDI in 2006, so 2006 is the most recent model available. Volkswagen has recently started selling diesels again, but none are New Beetles. And these New Beetle TDIs are rarely sold. Search eBay, search Craigslist, search Kelly Blue Book... the only other listings in California's Bay Area are for vehicles almost ten years old. This little bug is only four years old and is running like new, with less than 37,000 miles. eBay only has a few other New Beetle TDIs listed, and none are closer to California than Texas. The dealer is willing to pay me $10,500 for the car, but I'd rather sell it myself and not fund his profit margin. The car and I are a few blocks from San Francisco's Embarcadero BART/MUNI station, and thus readily accessible to those coming in by car, train, or plane (SFO or Oakland via BART).
