The car is located in Calexico, CA (122 miles East of San Diego). This auction is for a used 1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas in Gold color. I bought the car with a salvage title due to a light front collision during heavy and slow traffic on the highway, however, the car was repaired one years ago by a professional body shop. The car has 169,000 highway miles and is in good mechanical and electrical condition for its age. As per the Vanden Plas it is a perfect blend of heritage and technology. A straight six that hauls like a V-8. The 4-liter, 245-horsepower, 24-valve, in-line, 6-cylinder engine is rather energetic considering the weight (4,100 pounds) it has to pull. Of course, those that flex muscle need nourishment, and the Jaguar Vanden Plas is no exception with its 17 m.p.g. city/23 m.p.g. highway mileage rating. You'll be the envy of all others when you pull up to the pump, but be prepared to be envied often. Ride and handling are very pleasant. You feel few abrasions in the road thanks to revised shock and spring settings, and despite the Jaguar's weight, you won't lean or wander nearly as much in corners, turns or when semi-circling on expressway ramps as you might expect. Speed-sensitive power steering improves responsiveness to wheel input. Cost when new, $69,000. Jaguar's uniqueness is especially evident inside. The instruments are simple and understated in keeping with the elegant mood. Memory functions automatically adjust the driver's seat, steering wheel and outside mirror. The driver's seat moves back when Park is engaged for easy exit. It moves back to the last position it was set when the ignition is turned on. Thanks to the long wheelbase, the rear compartment is huge and legroom is expansive. The bench seat has two depressed seating areas, but a third person would be comfortable in the middle. Airplane-like tray tables fold down from the front seatbacks. A small pod with two rocker switches on the left side of the passenger seat allow rear-seat passengers to move the seat. Headroom is just as generous as legroom. The unique looks of the Vanden Plas are complemented by a driving experience all its own. The Vanden Plas is wonderfully comfortable with an elegant feel. Acceleration performance is startling with instant throttle response. On dry pavement, the Jaguar Vanden Plas can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds, an impressive statistic given its size and weight. Differences between Normal and Sport suspension modes are perceptible on rough surfaces and in hard cornering. The Sport setting lets a little more road roughness come through the steering, but gives the car a slightly flatter stance in cornering. The steering felt connected and let enough road through to give a good feeling of control. The wheels do not straighten by themselves after a tight maneuver; they must be brought back in line by turning the steering wheel.As I stated before, the car has a salvage title so please look at the pictures and ask me any questions before you bid.
