Vehicle Detail

I am relisting this rare piece of Hot Rod history due to a non-paying bidder. Please... Please... Please... do not bid unless you are certain you CAN & WILL pay. Anyone wishing to inspect this classic Chevy is welcome to do so PRIOR to bidding. Feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like, all will be answered promptly. This is a 55 year old truck which has been sitting for most of the last 3 decades. It is going to take ALOT of time & effort to make this hard to find pick-up like new again. Hello, let me start by saying that I realize how stressful it can be to buy anything sight un-seen. I do not believe a paragraph & 1 or 2 pictures can accurately describe any item, let alone a vehicle that is 55 years old, like this rare Chevrolet truck. I also understand that you may be in a different state or even a different Country & are unable to come view this vehicle in person. Still, I want you to know everything I know about anything I offer for sale. For that reason, my postings tend to be a little on the long side. I also post 24 super sized pictures. Please take time to read the item description & view the pictures. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. I have sold to buyers all over the world. I have a full 5 stars for item as described as well as communication. My overall feedback rating is 100% positive! Everyone seems to be very happy with what they buy from me. I'm sure you will be also. DESCRIPTION- I happened upon this UNIQUE piece of American Classic Car history while following up on a lead a friend gave me about an RS/SS 1969 Camaro. It was one of those stories we've all heard... ( I know where there is an un-touched 69 Camaro just sittin in an old man's field ). Since it was said to be in a town just a few miles up the road from me, I went to check it out. After getting lost a few times, I ended up way out in the middle of nowhere on a pig trail of a dirt road & there it was.... a 69 RS/SS Camaro in a field with about 10 other old cars. The old man who owned the place was super friendly & was just getting ready to give the property to his Granddaughter as a wedding gift. He had decided to get rid of the cars in an effort to make the place look nicer for her. I bought everything. The Camaro was junk but was a 69 Camaro so I had to have it. Most of the other cars were rusty wrecks & undesirable vehicles to boot but I had to buy everything in order to get the Camaro. When I was getting ready to leave, the old man told me I had one more to haul off. I thought I was done. I had loaded & hauled everything sitting in the field. He pointed me to an old shed at the edge of the woods. Inside was this 1956 wrap around back glass pickup. I backed my rollback to the door & loaded it up. As I was chaining it down I started noticing things about the truck that let me know this was something special. I noticed that there was a 9 inch Ford rear-end which had been very skillfully installed. I noticed that the front hubs were converted to 5 lug but still retained a drum braking system & the straight front axle. I noticed an obviously very old 110MPH speedo in the dash. It was easy to tell that this was a real deal VINTAGE HotRod! I asked the old man if he knew anything about the truck & his eyes lit up! He told me all about how he & his Brother bought this truck from a local farmer back in 1970. They took it home & went to work turning this Chevy into a ( Wicked Mother F****er that Nobody Could Handle ) his exact words! He told me that this was a factory 265 V8 powered truck with factory Hydromatic automatic transmission. If you know about Chevrolet trucks of the 50's era, you know that Chevrolet powered very nearly all of their pickups & commercial trucks with some version of the 235 straight six cylinder engine & backed them with a 3 speed manual. Unlike Ford, very very few Chevy trucks were built with a V8 powerplant & even fewer with an automatic transmission. Most of the 1/2 ton Chevrolet trucks which DID have a V8, also had the smooth side Cameo Bed. Since this truck DOES still have the factory V8 & factory Hydromatic emblems on the front fenders & also has a perfect factory wrap around rear glass... I feel this truck was more than likely born a Cameo. When asked about the bed, the man told me the truck had a wooden flatbed on it when they bought it from the farmer. He & his Brother found the current stepside bed at a local junk yard soon after they got it home. It may very well be a Cameo. It is a RARE Chevy truck regardless. The factory VIN plate is in place & I have listed the VIN above. There are several 0's added to the end of the VIN in order for it to meet eBay's 17 digit requirement. Simply disregard those. The actual VIN is V3A56A009262. The previous owner told me that when they got the truck the original motor & trans were already missing. They dropped in a souped up 327 with a factory 6 pack from a late 60's Corvette. They backed the smallblock with a 4 speed manual transmission from another vehicle but he couldn't remember what it had came from. Then they started street racing. He told me that they had ( the fastest thing in three counties ). Soon they were also running regularly at local drag strips. He said the old Chevy rear-end just couldn't take it & ( kept blowin out ) so they had a mechanic they knew from a local Ford dealership build them a 9 inch specifically for this 56. He told me that the gear is a 4:11 with a straight locked posi unit & that they never had any further trouble with the rear-end for as long as they ran the truck. He told me that sometime near the end of the 70's they put in the 110MPH speedo, replaced the 327 with a 350 & went back to a Powerglide Automatic transmission. They only ran it a few more times & then the truck was parked. He told me he & his brother started families & were ( getting too old for it ). Over the years the truck was driven a few times as a backup vehicle & eventually the motor & transmission where used in a big farm truck. This old Chevy has spent most of the last 3 decades sitting in delapidated shed. I was very impressed with the old man, his story & the truck. I knew it was a rare find & decided to keep it for myself. It sat in the corner of my shop for nearly 3 years waiting for me to start the restoration process. Eventually it was taking up too much useable space so I had to move it outside. In order to keep the body from deteriorating any further, I shot it with a high quality epoxy primer. It makes me sick seeing this truck sitting out in front of the shop everyday so I have decided to let it go. There is a lot of work to be done but this one has a great foundation. It's super soild where it counts & is a very rare model. I hope it goes to someone who will put this Wicked Chevy back on the street. BODY- There are some areas of rust but due to this being a life long Southern vehicle, combined with the long storage... all of the rust apears to be superficial. Structurally this Chevy is rock solid. All of the problematic areas these trucks are known for are solid on this truck. Most of these trucks, which are still in unrestored condition, are rotted out over the top of the windshield. These Chevys have a roof overhang over the front glass which is prone to rusting out. This truck has NO rot in this area. They are also prone to rot around the lower corners of the rear glass. This truck has NO rot in that area. The door jams are very solid. The firewall is rust free. All of the factory underhood metal work is in great shape. (nothing was cut or altered from original condition during this truck's racing days) The driver's side floorpan appears to be very solid. The passenger side pan will need to be replaced. The frame is straight, solid / rust & repair free. The hood is very solid. The front fenders are straight & repairable. They simply need lower corner patches. The lower door skins are rotted. They are also repairable but since all the doors are the same on all Chevrolet & GMC trucks from 1955-1959... from 1/2 ton pick-ups all the way up to the biggest flatbed farm trucks... a set of rust free doors should be easy to come by. Most of the big farm trucks are far more solid than a pickup since they usually spent their life in a barn. Many parts will not work on a 1/2 ton but the doors are exactly the same. Overall the cab is extremely solid but will need work on the rear cab corners. The rear fenders are in great shape. The bed sides are straight. There is some rot on the driver's side directly below the spare tire mount. Inside the bed is a thin piece of sheet metal. I have pulled up one end & you can see that the original wood slats & steel strips are still in place. GLASS- The rare wrap around rear Cameo glass is in place & PERFECT! They do not reproduce this rear glass & nearly every one I have ever seen has lamination bubbles around the edges. Even on $40,000 restored Cameos! This rear glass has NO lamination bubbles at all! The front windshield DOES have minor lamination bubbles around the edges but is usable. I removed the door glasses due to extensive cracks. DRIVETRAIN- This Chevy was originally equipped with the RARE 265 V8 / Hydromatic automatic transmission combo. It was later given a couple of hopped up Gasser smallblocks, a 4 speed & a 9 inch. The only thing still present is the 9 inch Ford rear-end. It was installed right & is still right. I was told the gear is a 4:11 posi. I have not verified the ratio but I do know it IS a straight through posi & feels smooth. I'm sure this rear is not hurt. It would cost a couple of grand to install a 9in posi in one of these trucks today... so you are already ahead of the game with this Chevy! All of the steering & suspension components are in place... right down to the straight front axle which is a must for any REAL gasser! * This is a TRUE auction! * NO RESERVE! * Low starting bid! * You set the final price! * Bid what you think the truck is worth to you! * If you are the high bidder at the end... YOU WIN! TITLE- Georgia is a non-title state for vehicles older than 1986 & therefore this Chevrolet is exempt from title here & has no title. However, if you live in a state which requires a vehicle of this year to be titled, I WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH THE PAPERWORK YOU NEED TO GET YOUR TITLE QUICKLY & EASILY. This means the winning bidder will get a T-7 bill of sale, a state VIN inspection certificate, a gray GA registration card & an official letter from the state of GA confirming that this vehicle is exempt from title in this state. This paperwork will allow you to register the vehicle if you live in a non-title state such as Georgia. This paperwork will also automatically transfer into an actual title if you live in a state which requires a title on a vehicle of this year. I know some of you may be thinking that your tag office is hard to deal with & they just will not issue you a title if you don't have a title from the seller. I understand your hesitation but please believe me when I tell you... they have absolutely no choice but to issue you a title on this vehicle. Every County in every State is governed by the rules of the United States Department Of Transportation. The law says that if a vehicle is brought from a non-title state into a title requiring state & there is valid paperwork from the non-title state... the title requiring state MUST issue a clean clear title for that vehicle. It's the law & no matter how hard to deal with your tag office may be, they WILL issue you a title. There are several states which don't require titles on older vehicles. If there wasn't a unified law to cover these vehicles nationwide, people who moved from a non-title state to a new state may very well find that their very valuble classic automobiles couldn't be tagged in the their new home state. That would be absurd. I have sold classic vehicles to buyers all over the USA including Hawaii, several to Canada, a few to the UK, several to the Netherlands, one to Iceland, one to Spain & even a few to Australia. No one has had any trouble obtaining their title. You won't either. It is as easy as renewing your car tag. Your local tag office WILL issue you a clean, clear title on this 1956 Chevrolet. BIDDING- Please only bid what you are prepared to pay for this very rare Chevy. Anyone wishing to inspect the truck or have the truck inspected is welcome to do so, but inspections must be completed prior to bidding & prior to auction's end. If you have little or no feedback please do not bid without first sending me your contact info through the ASK SELLER A QUESTION link in this listing so that we can speak on the phone prior to you placing your bid. I have encountered a couple of crooks/ scammers here on eBay who have cost me both time & money. This will no longer be tolerated so if you are not a SERIOUS buyer, PLEASE MOVE ON. All members with a genuine interest in this vehicle are more than welcome to ask questions. All will be answered promptly. If you look at my feedback comments you will see that all of the REAL buyers have been very happy after dealing with me. Many of the comments are from people who have been very happy with classic cars, street rods, motorcycles & diesel trucks they have bought from me. I have sold to satisfied buyers all over the world! I know you will love this project truck! SHIPPING- This truck is rolling & steering / ready to load. Shipping costs & arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. However, I have assisted buyers & their shippers in the pickup of several vehicles over the years. I can recommend several shippers who have performed well for buyers in the past but you will have to make your own arrangements with them. I will work with you & your shipper so that they can get this truck to you as fast & cost effectively as possible. However, no matter where you live,or how you choose to pay, the point of sell will be here in GEORGIA as that is where I live & where the vehicle is located. As always, you are more than welcome to pick this truck up in person. I will be happy to pick you up at the Atlanta Airport or local Amtrac station, free of charge, if you would like to rent a U-Haul truck & trailer to haul it with & then simply turn the U-Haul in at your local dealer when you get home. There are a lot of classic project trucks out there but this 56 Chevy is truly ONE OF A KIND! 1st of all it's a very rare model with very rare options. 2nd this truck is totally assembled & complete (minus motor & trans) right down to the radiator! 3rd this truck has a very cool vintage gasser history & still has the 9 inch posi in place. 4th nothing was altered during it's racing years so this truck could be restored back to original condition. 5th this is a life long Southern vehicle & as such is in very restorable condition. And finally... this rare classic is going to go to the high bidder at the end of this auction! NO RESERVE! Thank you for your interest. I hope you WIN!
