Vehicle Detail

Here is a great old very original 1964 Studebaker CHAMP Pick Up Truck with the Spaceside Long Bed and the Factory 289 V8 engine and the Factory 4 Speed Manual Transmission. THIS IS A SOLID OLD 1964 CHAMP 1/2 TON PICK UP TRUCK THAT LOOK LOOKS NICE AND RUNS LIKE A CHAMP! YOU CAN GET IN THE TRUCK AND ENJOY IT NOW WITH ITS STRONG RUNNING 289 V8 ENGINE AND ITS A SOLID ORIGINAL CALIFORNIA BLACK PLATE TRUCK. THERE ARE NO OTHER 64 CHAMPS OUT THERE THAT ARE NICE AS THIS ONE FOR THE PRICE AND THIS ONE HAS THE FACTORY V8 ENGINE AND 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND A NICE INTERIOR! This is a Deluxe Trim Model 1964 Champ Pick Up with the Optional 289 V8 engine as well as the Optional 4 Speed Manual Transmission and is equipped with the Deluxe Trim, Chrome Grill, Chrome Front Bumper, Deluxe Moldings, Sliding Rear Window, Padded Dash, AM Radio and Optional Rear Step Bumper. This is a great running Champ and the 289 engine runs beautifully and the 4 Speed Transmission shifts effortlessly with a nice operating Clutch. It goes down the Road nicely and Stops and Steers very good. The Champ has a nice solid and straight Original body and is for the most part, a very Original Truck! This Champ Pick Up Truck was Sold New and Registered in California in late 1963 and it would spend nearly 42 years in California before it came to the East Coast! This Champ still has its Original Black & Yellow California License Plate issued to the Truck when it was sold new which is verified by a copy of the old California Title which shows the License Plate " California N56018" which is still on the Truck. The California paperwork shows that this Champ was sold in July of 2005 after spending the better part of 42 years in California! The previous owner in California was a woman from a little town of just 3,000 people located in Central California. What I like about this 1964 Champ is the very cool Original look and the Optional Chrome Package. It looks as though this Truck could have been in a photo taken in the late 60's or early 70's with its very cool Original look and stance. Many of the Champs have the Painted Front Bumper, 6 Cylinder engines, Painted Plain jane rear bumpers and 6 Cylinder engines with 3 Speed Manual Transmissions but thats not the case with this Deluxe Trim Model Long Bed Champ with its 289 "V8" engine and 4 Speed Transmission! This is a Deluxe Trim Model with the Chrome Front Bumper, Chrome Grill and Chrome Moldings, Factory Rear Step Bumper, Original Sliding Rear Window, AM Radio, Padded Dash, etc etc..... This is the Last Year for the Studebaker Pick Up Truck and only 2,509 of these 1964 Studebaker Champ Pick Up's were built. Keep in mind that the 2,509 Built Included all Champ Pick Up's for 1964 from the Base Model with a 6 Cylinder and the Standard 3 Speed Manual Transmission with either a Short Bed or Long Bed to Deluxe Model Champ's with either a Short or Long Bed and one of the "2" Optional V8 Engines with either the 3 Speed Manual, Optional 4 Speed Manual or even a 4 Speed with Overdrive.....If you could break the Production Figures down down to How many were Long Bed Spaceside Champ Pick Up's with the Deluxe Trim Option and the 289 V8 Engine along with the 4 Speed Manual Transmission then I would bet that this is a pretty Rare old Truck.......these Trucks have super low Production figures in any confirguation with just 2,509 Producd let alone a Deluxe Champ with the 289 and the Spaceside Long Bed. This is an Original California Black Plate Truck and it still has the Original License Plates as well as a copy of the old California title showing it was Originally registered in 1963 and then sold in 2005. This Champ's engine is the Optional 289 V8 and its Runs very good and starts easily with no unusual noises or smoke...runs very strong and the Transmission shifts as it should with no problems. The Clutch works well with no slipping or chatter and is easy on the foot. The Brakes work well and the Truck goes down the road nicely with New Tires all around. It stops nice and straight and with the New Tires it makes for a more pleasant ride. This Champ is for the most part very Original and is a Good solid Original Truck. This Champ was brought back East in 2005 where its Owner used the Truck for the occasional Weekend Cruise or a quick weekend drive to the Local Hardware store. It has been used strictly as a Hobby vehicle since it left California. This Champ has a very cool Vintage look just the way it is with a Great stance. This is one of those Trucks that people just seem to flock to and most have never seen a Studebaker Pick Up before but for those who have, they seem to want to share their Studebaker Champ stories with you whether it be about their old Champ or one that somebody in their family owned. These Champ Pick Up's seem to be well loved by the Studebaker faithful. I think it has a lot to do with the very Unique look of the Cab and the unmistakable look of the Champ's grill which quickly identifies this as a Champ. There was not another Pick Up Truck built with a Grill or Frontend that remotely resembles the Champ in my opinion. This is a Turnkey and Drive 1964 Champ that can be enjoyed just the way she is although like most Vintage vehicles there is always room for improvement....it is afterall an unrestored original thats never seen more than one older repaint in its Original Green Paint and basic maintainence. The old Paint job has its share of nicks, scratches and it has a few dings here and there but overall, a very cool and very solid Original Champ. One of the nice thing about this Champ is that its very Original, Runs and Drives well and you can improve on it as you drive it although I love the look of this Truck just the way it sits! The Body on this Champ is far better than most Originals that I have seen over the years and I guess that can be attributed to its spending most of its life in California, This is good Original Unrestored Champ with nothing more than an older repaint in its Original Green Paint and a previous owner recovered the Front seat, installed NOS Door Panels and new carpeting but other than those things, this 1964 Deluxe Champ is in good and extremely original condition. The Lights work, Headlights, Parking Lights, Taillights, Speedometer, Odometer, Temperature Gauge, Turn Signals and the Gas Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauges all work although the Gas Gauge is not very accurate. The Truck holds very good Oil Pressure. The Original AM Radio is not currently working although it is in nice condition and might just need a fuse. I have not checked it out...the original Radio is complete and in good shape and the Original Speaker and Antenna are all in place. The Steering Wheel in this Champ is very Nice with a Nice Original Center Cap and the Grain on the Steering wheel and the Original Finish is very Nice. The Original Sun Visors are in place and are in good Original condition. The Dash Pad has a nice clean look although there is one very repairable crack in the Center of the Dash...not a big deal but I thought it should be mentioned. This Truck has a very Nice Original Chrome Front Bumper, Nice Original Chrome Grill and the Optional Step Bumper in the Rear which is also in good condition. The Original Chrome Grill looks good as does the Original Headlight Bezels and Upper Fender Trim. The Optional Sliding Rear Window Slides open easily and is a very cool Factory Original Option and I believe Studebaker may have been the first Truck Manufacturer to offer a Sliding Rear Window Option. Recent work includes a Rebuilt Carburetor, New Water Pump, New Fuel Pump, Brakes gone over, NOS Hubcaps installed on newly Painted Original wheels and New Tires. The Truck was recently serviced with an Oil Change, all Fluids Check and either added or Changed as needed. The Frontend was greased and New Tires installed at all Four Corners. The 289 engine Fires right up and runs really nice and sounds good. Ive used the Truck mostly while cruising around town but recently I made a trup down the Interstate and it cruises along fine at 55mph. This Truck drives good but is a nearly 47 year old Champ Pick Up so it does not drive like your New Ford F-150 , Dodge Ram or your new Chevy 1500 Silverado. It drives quite well but these old Trucks drive quite differently than the new Truck's. It drives a lot like my old International Harverster Pick Up or like my old Dodge Power Wagon. In fact it reminds me a lot of my old Dodge Town Wagon in the way it drives and I enjoyed driving that old Dodge. The Truck comes with 4 New Shock Absorbers, a Nice Pair of Replacement interior Kick Panels, NOS Speedometer and Odometer showing (00000 miles) and NOS Water Temperature and Gas Gauge Cluster in the Original Studebaker Boxes, a Pair of Nice Original Armrest as well as some other odds and ends. This Truck has its Original Drivers side Door area Mounted Vin Plate which matches the title and the Original Trim Tag is attached at the Top of the Firewall at the Cowl. I have included pictures of both in the auction. The Bed is in good shape and is the Optional Spaceside Long Bed which literally allows one to lay a full 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed over the rear wheel houses without any difficulty. Its a great design and I believe that Studebaker borrowed this design from the Dodge Trucks of the era. The Original Tailgate is in really good original condition with a little rust along the outer shell on the passenger side of the Tailgate and there is a little rust along the passenger side rocker panel and a very small spot at the bottom of the passenger side front fender. There is nothing else thats evident that I would consider any type of problem for a very Original nearly 50 year old Studebaker Champ Pick Up Truck! The Bed is in nice shape and is not beat to death like many older Trucks. It has very little in the way of dents and the Truck overall still shows very well with a nice patina and a very cool Nostalgic look all around. Its just a cool Studebaker Pick Up Truck and the New Owner should enjoy this Truck for whatever they would like to use it for....whether it be a weekend cruiser or a Truck to take to the occasional Cruise Night Gathering or would be an easy truck to give a little freshening although I love the look of the Truck just the way it is. The Original Wheels were recently stripped and repainted and NOS Studebaker Hubcaps were installed along with the New Tires and this combination looks quite nice and makes for a nice driving truck. The Truck appears to have had larger Mirror installed at one time but a previous owner did a nice job of removing them and filling the mounting areas. I guess you could add just about any type of Door Mounted Mirror that you'd like but originals are easy to come by and this is the only piece that I would consider installing on the Truck...just a matter of personal taste. If your looking for a very Original 1964 Studebaker Champ Deluxe Pick Up Truck then this might be the truck for you. Its an excellent running Truck with its original drivetrain and a very good original overall. Its not new nor has it been restored but its a very cool turnkey driver than can be enjoyed now. Sure there are always room for improvement but thats up to the individual. I think its just a very cool looking Truck just as she stands and its a lot of fun to drive just as she sits. These Trucks are very Unique in that they were literally designed using the Front body section of the Studebaker Lark passenger cars which saved Studebaker from having to retool for the all New from 1961-1964 Champ Pick Up's which used most of the old style Chassis from its earlier Pick up Trucks. These Studebaker Champs are very hard to find and even more difficult to find the 1964 Model with its very low production figures and of course it was the last of the Studebaker Pick Up Trucks. It was the end of an era for what had always been a very cool cutting edge independent car Manufacturer from South Bend Indiana. If you ever wanted a really interesting Vintage Truck then give this Champ some consideration as its a really good running old Truck and an excellent Value when you consider its rarity, optional Deluxe Trim Package, Factory V8 and its good overall original condition and then there is the fact that you can enjoy this Truck now!
